Next Esselmont books summaries, all continuations of the Kellenved/Dancer books Spoiler Book 4: The Jhistal (17/03/22) This volume develops and details the Malazan expansion into the Falari Peninsula region. Kellanved and Dancer, impatient with the slow and methodical consolidation of the continent of Quon Tali, are up to no good and embroil the Malazan forces in an uprising against the ruling Theocracy of Falar. These priests have maintained power over all the many islands through the threat of their terror-weapon: the dread 'Jhistal'...Here readers will discover just what this weapon is, meet a younger Mallick Rel and find out just how the Malazans took the region into their grip. Book 5: tbc (03/11/22) Here we will be documenting and following the emerging Malazan Empire's first landings and foothold in the region of the Seven Cities. Central to this account will be the monumental and notorious attack on the Holy City of Aren. The emergence of Dassem Ultor, his rising influence and popularity among the military of the empire - together with Surly's growing wariness of it - is all suggestive of his death before the walls of Y'ghatan. Another path of this story will follow Kellanved and Dancer's exploration of Shadow and beyond, and further steps towards the former's ascension as Shadowthrone. Book 6: tbc (09/11/23) Kellanved and Dancer and company have become ever more powerful and elevated, and are now distant players as we dig down to follow Bridgeburners themselves: Whiskeyjack, Fiddler, Hedge, Trotts, Mallet and others. Yes, the gang's all here and readers will relish being in their company once more!Battles and encounters in Mott Woods and Black Dog Forest abound and all of this leads readers up to to the point at which this extraordinary multi-faceted, multi-layered epic fantasy saga first began: Gardens of the Moon.
God is Not Willing refresher from Tor If you’re at all like me and remember nothing, potentially helpful.
Damn I did not realize this was coming out on Saturday. Gotta hurry up and finish the latest Abercrombie book.
At this rate they’re just both looking like Christmas list items for me. My reading rate has been abysmal this year (cost of grad school). But I’m quite excited for December/January to roll around and to dig in.
JohnLocke I also really enjoyed reading some of these articles as I was reading through the series. Especially if there was a real “WTF just happened” chapter. No spoilers in them. https://www.tor.com/series/malazan-reread-of-the-fallen/
Thanks big dawg. I feel like once I check this one off my list then I have become a champion of fantasy. Looking forward to it. If I have any questions I'll definitely holler at you
Lol. Champion of Fantasy. That's funny. I get it though. Malazan was my 2nd or 3rd fantasy series. My favorite still.
Just finished the newest book. Took a while. I couldn't get into it at first. Been reading in small bits every few days. I probably read the last half of the book in the last 24 hours as it finally caught my interest. Wont say much since it's so new but not sure how I feel about this book.
I just finished it. Had trouble getting into it as well. Liked it a lot more towards the end but as I was listening to the audiobook I found my mind wandering so I missed some stuff. I will definitely have to reread it, and I think Erikson books are probably best to be read the old fashioned way (I read the BotF on my kindle, not audiobook.). I had no issues listening to Esselmont’s prequel trilogy on audiobook but that’s Esselmont.
Slogging through this series still. It’s good but for whatever reason get bogged down at times. Have had to take breaks with other books which kind of sucks because there’s so much to remember. On The Bonehunters currently.
I finally finished The Bonehunters. Those last three chapters escalated quickly. Really satisfying. Reaper’s Gale forthcoming.
Anyone done any of the audiobooks? Did print or ebook for first read through but considering audiobooks for second read through.
I did audiobooks for the Path of Ascendancy and they’ve been fine. Never did any of the main books through audiobook.
Only a quarter through but damn actually knowing what the words mean this time around makes it almost like reading it the first time
Has anyone listened to Ten Very Big Books along with their read through? Seems like a good podcast to follow along with.
