Probably way off but... Midnight Tides, Chapter 17 67% Spoiler Is Bugg Mael? He has referenced others as mortals and human leading me to believe he is neither. He has referred to his lovemaking making the ocean churn, he snores like the tide coming in. At the end of last chapter Withal began praying to Mael and at the beginning of this chapter Bugg felt someone whisper his name and he fell into the canal. It seems like a stretch and I'm probably way off, but I know Bugg is way more than he seems
Yeah I'm a big fan of their parts. I like The Ceda and Kettle as well so far. We'll see how it all turns out. I prefer sections centered around Letheras to sections about the Edur. Made it to a little past 75% last night. Hope to finish this week.
Hmmm 25% through Memories of Ice. The K'CHain Che'Malle are some bad fuckers. Spoiler so the Pannion Domin is tied to a Jaghut somehow? When the Grey Sword said that name all the T'lan Imass froze like "wtf did you just say?"
Spoiler I want to see a fight between Tool and Mok but at the same time I'm cause they are both bad asses
Spoiler Rake right? And yea I want to see how big a bad ass the 1st and 2nd are. Spoiler I mean these fuckers must be insanely good right? They send 3 of them to start/finish a war?
Spoiler Yeah Rake. Showed up unaware on their land. They started attacking him one after one, he made his way up to 7th rank and then had to jump into Kurahld Galain (sp?) when he was tired as fuck Yeah I would like to see #1 and #2 against anyone. I don't know how far you are, but all 3 of the ones with Tool are insane fighters
Spoiler just passed the spot where Lady Envy had to knock out Mok because Tool was about to challenge him.
So Kruppe confuses the shit out of me every time he starts talking and I don't really like the Mhybe story line so far. That's my only two complaints about Memories of Ice so far.
I like Kruppe but I just get so confused during his parts from the way his speech is written. I have a hard time following it sometimes.
Spoiler on the floating island where lady envy meets that other imass and she's like "it seems y'all meet the tyrant that is your match" and the imass says "not a jaghut a human"
Spoiler did it say a human or just human? Thats what I thought you meant and I read it to mean a human empire/army not a single human.
Spoiler yes iirc the T'lan Imass was referring to the continent of Assail which is referenced again in Midnight Tides (but not fully addressed) and I believe it is a continent ravaged by war, I don't believe it is dominated by one all powerful human. I could be wrong but I don't think so. I'm only through Midnight Tides though so some know far more than me. I know later there is a full novel by Esselmont called Assail. There's also an ancient non-human race called Forkrul Assail that you'll meet in House of Chains but as of now I haven't found any link between them and that besides their name.
Yea I pretty much just skim over the Mhybe's pages. And Krupp is a great character but the way he talks is so fucking confusing and infuriating sometimes lol.
Finished Midnight Tides. Really enjoyed it, great ending. 75% of the way through Night of Knives, my first Esslemont book
Spoiler Like many have said, Esselmont isn't as talented a writer as Erikson. However I have enjoyed getting more information about what happened the night Kellenved and Dancer ascended, and more backstory on what happened to Dassem Ultor.
Welp just finished it. So much going on, especially at the end, but I really enjoyed it. Did not like the Mhybe story line at all though. Anxious to get started on the next one.
Started House of Chains Spoiler I'm not sure I like how powerful they are making these three young Talbor warriors. I mean their whole race are fighters right? And these 3 guys are just cutting a path through all the other tribes. It's just kind of a pet peeve of mine though. I realize you have bad asses in these stories that can kick ass, but I just get frustrated when they are basically untouchable. My only problem with Seeth (sp?) the assassin in white in Stormlight. He was basically untouchable by anyone until the last guy. Granted I'm very early in the book so far.
Spoiler I felt the same way, however you will learn more about them and why they're so powerful. They aren't human though and are basically giants. When they refer to children they are referring to full grown humans who are like children to them. With that said, I still have a problem with how powerful they make Karsa. You'll see what I mean later in the book
So I like the character but still not a fan of how powerful they made him. Also I fucked up reading a wiki about him and read a spoiler. God damnit.
Karsa is definitely a bad dude but in the Malazan world I wouldn't say he is too powerful. Has strengths and weaknesses like everyone else.
End of House of Chains spoiler Spoiler they built up the Deragoth to be so fucking powerful, like Hounds of Shadow on steroids. I wasn't a big fan of Karsa single handedly murking two of them. Was a big fan of Urko or Cartheron, whichever one it was, knocking Karsa the fuck out with one punch.
Spoiler yes, agree on the Deragoth. Think that's the one big inconsistency with Karsa. But he isn't totally dominant. Icarium, cotillion, urso, cartheron,or Anomander (#1 tough guy imo)are easily just as tough or tougher. Maybe Mappo or Tayschrenn. Quick Ben potentially. And a few others that I am not sure if you have met or if they have shown themselves. So I don't think Karsa is too overpowered. To me, the scene with the hounds makes them look weaker instead of making him look too strong.
Yeah. After watching this thread I skimmed through from the Bonehunter till the end just hitting highlights. Now I am reading the 1st Kharkanas book in its entirety. Love the Tiste Andii.
Yeah same. Huge man crush on Anomandaris. Spoiler Hoping to get a Rake, Silchas Ruin reunion now that Ruin is free of the Azath.
I'm still pissed about the big spoiler i read while reading up on Karsa. I'm staying away from all that shit now.The spoiler is from Toll of Hounds so if you read that you know what I'm talking about.
Oh it's definitely my fault. I just can't help myself sometimes. Oh well, I'll stay away for sure now.
I'm confused. House of chains jumps from Karsa's back story straight into the Seven Cities rebellion?
Yes. You can read this spoiler Spoiler If you caught who Karsa meets and escapes with at the end of his section, you'll know that he is with Shaik's rebellion
Spoiler yea i read that i was just confused at first. thought i was missing pages. Didn't expect to get all of that back story, then it skip all the way to the rebellion.
I'm beginning to think that the Jaghut aren't as evil as everyone made them out to be in the first books and that the Tlan I'mass are these perfect good guys we were made to think they were. Excluding the Jaghut tyrants that is.
Spoiler so the Treblor "gods" are T'lan Imass that have left the ritual or whatever and now serve the crippled god? And Karsa is now the knight of the house of chains? I'm so confused. I thought he was turning a corner, now he serves the god that wants to destroy the whole world.
