I refuse to pick Carol Danvers because she's a badly written cheat code right now, also MCU Spidey ain't that strong yet, Cap basically floored him.
Brie Larson was on the new How Did This Get Made episode talking about Supergirl and she's delightful. But she didn't reference being Captain Marvel even once.
we haven’t really seen Hulk fight since Thanos ate his lunch, right? we see him in Endgame but I don’t remember actually seeing him fight.
I kind of felt like this was why she was on the show but she made no reference to or comparison or anecdotal story. Just went unsaid.
Agreed on Danvers but you have to take her for the same reason you can’t take MCU Hulk. And the MCU spidey that Cap took down was years ago. Hadn’t mastered his Peter Tingle, hadn’t seen some shit.
The amount of disrespect itt for stark is staggering. Homeboy invented fucking time travel in an evening.
Also Banner was desperately trying to Un-Hulk himself that whole movie. And in Ragnarok he was a three year old. That Hulk was soft and proved it in his Thanos fight. (And Thanos was smart enough to know he had to knock his ass out quick before the rage could return). The only rage filled Hulk we saw was the one that beasted everything in Avengers. And for all the ignorant “so and so fought Thanos better”. The only correct answer is Thor. He went 1v1 with a fully gauntleted (and fully understanding of the gauntlet because he’s been using it and had to do the Thanos Quest for it) Thanos and drove StormBreaker a foot into his chest. Wanda was great but you can’t compare gauntlet v non-gauntlet. And as for Danvers, it’s been stated the only reason she held her own v Thanos is because she was using her energy manipulation to draw energy from the stones and kept it from Thanos. That’s why he pulled the power stone out and blasted her ass across the stage with it in his bare hand.
There was a perfect seque when they were talking about learning to use powers and she ignored it. I think it was conscious on her part.
irl Brie is so much more charismatic than Carol Danvers. Idk how they took someone so charismatic and turned their character so fucking bland.
ITT everyone is now off the “don’t dis Capt marvel because she is a woman and realizes she is fucking terrible as Carol Danvers” thread.
Cap Marvel would have been a good phase one movie. Maybe even phase two. It had a lot of things wrong with it but a big problem is that it was stuck as the movie just before Endgame. Everyone was on pins and needles and didn't want to sit through a 2 hour origin story with a relatively plodding pace.
Imo it should have been released right after the first Avengers movie, the call back of the "Protector Initiative" into "Avenger Initiative" and Coulson's origin would have been better. It would have also been followed by IM3 and Thor 2, the 2 literal worst MCU movies and would have looked better by comparison. Enough time would have passed between then and Infinity War that the pager symbol would have been a hype moment again. "Oh shit Fury is going to bring back the big guns" etc. Then release only Ant Man and the Wasp in between Infinity War and End Game. Perfect release order, or first time watch order imo.
I'm thinking about getting marvel unlimited and reading the comics that I haven't read. Does anyone know if it includes the classic issues I did a quick search but couldn't find anything on it.
Didn’t like Capt. Marvel at all the first time I watched it. I’ve seen it twice since, and actually enjoyed it more with each re-watch.
this is very true. if you put it up against the other origin movies (save GOTG) it holds up very well.
Captain Marvel is ranked 19/24 on my Marvel rankings (I also include Spiderverse in this ranking even though it's not MCU). It's not a very good movie.
I hate to be the one to tell you this after what I assume is a 3-year coma but...Stark is dead. And Cap lives on the moon now.
I had the same kind of "meh" feeling about Dr. Strange, to be honest. He didn't really become a favorite until he was used perfectly in Infinity War. I think the Phase Four origin movies (Shang Chi, Eternals, etc) will do better than the ones in Phase two and three because there's more of a "starting over" feel than there was back then. It was hard to stop and reset and take in an origin story in the middle of the Infinity Saga.
I saw Captain Marvel before any of the Avengers movies and a bunch of the character movies and remember it more fondly because of that, I think. It doesn't seem misplaced or that bad of a movie if you watched it before you watched Avengers, AoU, Thor 1 and 2. Watching it as part of Phrase 3 does it no favors.
Same experience. Once you get over what it isn't, I think it's easier to appreciate what it is. It's an entertaining movie with some good back and forth between good actors/characters. It's not top 10 MCU, but that's a pretty high bar at this point. Just with phase 3 films, I find it better/more rewatchable than Doctor Strange and Ant-Man/Wasp.
Actually scratch (pun intended) what I said about releasing/watching Captain Marvel after the first Avengers because it diminishes the "The last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye" moment in Winter Soldier. A fucking flerken kitty was the origin of Nick Fury's eye patch is just so so dumb.
At least A tier, not only held, but had inside it an Infinity Stone for weeks, if not months, w/o any side effects.
Watched GOTG Vol 2 on a whim last night. Hadn't seen it in a few years. Naturally, still a very good romp, and Yondu's ending is excellently done.
