I was going to say a strong B on my score, but that’s not a negative from me. I won’t skip it on MCU rewatches but it’s a set up movie.
A "B" in the classic "A,B,C,D,F" grading scale like we have in American schools, is fine. I'd agree maybe. B+ But on Cinemascore, a "B" is like getting a D in school.
Reading reviews and a cool little connection about a side character Spoiler The female freedom fighter is the niece of one of Hulk’s side pieces. I guess he got sucked down in the QR once and he fell in love with a quantum chick.
I like that they gave the kid that does the voice of Miles on Spidey and Friends a cameo. That felt like a pretty wholesome film all around.
Saw it a couple hours ago, really entertaining. Majors was really good as Kang, certain scenes with him were very tense. It definitely set a tone for phase 5 and looking forward to seeing where things go after the post credit scenes.
Others I was thinking of Spoiler Drink the OOZE There’s always room to grow His name is Scott and he has 7 holes It’s never too late to stop being a dick
Spoiler Any suggestions for comics in particular about the different Kangs? I have a marvel unlimited subscription to get backgrounds on some characters and series like Civil War.
Spoiler They’re mostly Avengers comics so I had to look up years/numbers but some essentials: Celestial Madonna: Avengers 123-25, 129-31 Council of Kangs: Avengers 267-69 Kang Dynasty: Avengers (98) 41-55 Young Avengers 1-6 Kang the Conqueror (23)
And apparently Jonathan has a movie coming out during award season this year where he’ll absolutely be nominated for Best Actor. We’ve said it in this thread before but by the next Avengers movie, he’s going to be one of the biggest actors in the world.
Magazine Dreams. He ate 6,100 calories a day and trained 3 times a day for it. https://www.insider.com/jonathan-majors-ate-6000-calories-daily-for-bodybuilding-film-2023-1?amp
Yeah he looks bigger but I think it’s probably just because he was training for both movies around the same time. Probably just lifted and ate more to bulk up as opposed to the boxing training.
Critics can get bent. People overwhelmingly like this movie but saying “Marvel is Shit” gets the clicks
Just got out. It was fine. High 70s/low 80s. Better than AM&W: Spoiler The pace of the film was so uneven. At times it was a glacial pace (the Bill Murray scene was forever long and largely pointless) and at times things moved too quickly. We get it, Janet. You DON’T want to talk about it. Kang was amazing. MODOK did NOT need or deserve a redemption arc…like AT ALL
Think my 6 year old daughter is finally ready for her first “MCU” movie. Planning to go with Spiderman: Homecoming since she has already seen Into the Spiderverse, loves the Webslinger ride in Disneyland, and Spidey is her 2nd favorite super hero (She says Captain America is her #1 still but I’m pretty sure she only says that because he’s my #1). This feels like the most kid-friendly MCU movie. Am I missing any other movies that may be better to start her off with? Was also considering Antman or Guardians (due to the humor) but Spiderman feels like a much safer choice.
Marvel has mined Rick and morty talent for all their multiverse stuff. Makes total sense given the premise of that show
The Council of Ricks is 100% taken from the Council of Kangs. I remember Harmon talking about the inspiration years ago.
That was a ton of fun. Spoiler Kang’s “I’ll do it myself” moment was such a tease and it’s going to be incredible seeing iterations of him fight various avengers

I’m sure I’ll get all kinds of hate for my take, but I just didn’t like that movie. Bottom tier MCU film that I’ll probably not watch again. Majors was great playing the role they gave him, unfortunately what they gave him was garbage in terms of setting him up as the next big villain. When the humor was good, it was really good. When the humor was misplaced it was really, really bad (shades of Thor L&T). Post credit scene was outstanding, mid credit was straight cringe. The MCU films post Phase 3 (I liked Wandavision, Loki and Moon Knight) just continue to disappoint me. It’s like I’m waiting for a Winter Soldier, GOTG, Black Panther or Ragnarok to come along, but it never does.
I don’t think it was bottom tier, and will watch it again with my boys, but I agree with the rest. I wish every movie now wasn’t trying to be a grand, multi dimensional, multiverse, multi world extravaganza. I think that’s one of the reasons phase 4 felt underwhelming. This movie is missing the charm of the first Antman where it was grounded and the villain was just a jerk with a super suit. I hope Marvel decides to mix in a couple of those in the new slate. I liked that they showed Scott having lunch with the FBI agent.
