I mean, Spider-Man in comics canon has had a ton of people die. It’s kind of his thing. in this film they focused on Captains (Captain Stacy - they literally showed the comic panel) as it allows for direct tie between Gwen and Miles and their fathers. in comics, Captain Stacy wasn’t a mentor per se. he was one of the few Spider-Man supporters and eventually figured out Peter was Spider-Man. He dies saving a kid, Gwen eventually dies, Peter blames himself. Dude has had a rough go. Best superhero character ever.

The guy who created the Miles Morales character for Marvel said that seeing Glover in that episode of Community was a partial inspiration for creating Miles. https://birthmoviesdeath.com/2011/08/02/how-donald-glover-inspired-the-new-ultimate-spider-man
That episode came out after the article and the internet campaign it created is why he did it in the episode
I used to watch a decent amount of Kevin Smith/Marc Bernardin pods about comic book movies a few years ago until they got kind of boring with so many of the movies and shows coming out. They seemed like they've been friends for a long time, and even Smith seemed shocked when Bernardin said he was the one who wrote that story that became the inspiration of sorts for the Miles character in the comics.
Just watched the first one on prime video and fucking loved it. Probably gonna go see the second one this weekend
Was that your first time watching the first Spiderverse? No judgment, just testing my reading comprehension.
It’s frustrating because to me a few minor changes and this movie had the potential to be really good. The vibe the movie gave off is exactly what Hemsworth is describing. Guessing that Feige gave Taika carte blanche on it and didn’t tell him no to basically anything.
Turn the goofiness down 25%, add 15+ minutes of god butchering, actually show Helmsworth full frontal. I think that could make a stew. I was really high when I first saw it and if you find yourself in a similar mental state it’s a fun romp. It was disappointing it didn’t live up to the source material.
From what I've read Taika was basically writing this thing as they went. Seems like he kind of phoned it in.
It wasn’t as bad as the reviews suggest, but also a very mediocre movie with the expectations everyone had going in. It was the last MCU movie I watched in theaters, since both MoM and L&T were both kind of duds. I was super hyped for both. Still thinking about giving Guardians a shot, but might just wait for D+
He’s been one of the most in-demand directors/writers in Hollywood since Ragnarok and JoJo Rabbit. Hopefully he’s not taking on too many projects that stretch his immense talent thin.
First time in forever I’ve watched the “Alternate Universe” version of Into the Spiderverse. They had a ton of Ned in the original storyboard version. Good choice to cut that out. The Spider-Ham cold open could of fit in later in the movie though.
It doesn’t get mentioned enough but the fact that the original Peter Parker’s route around/through the collider to place the goober is the exact same as Miles’ at the end of the film is such a chefs kiss. Then Peter B and Gwen both expressing “I didn’t teach him that? Did you?” sooo good.
So is the thought that all Miles are bad in every universe and this one is only good bc he got bit? Or is it that the earth 42 one is bad bc his dad died bc a spider man didn’t get bit in that universe?
It’s an extra on the blue-ray/digital version. Still the only movie I’ve purchased on iTunes. The “alternate version” and director’s commentary make it worth the price.
Some good stuff in there. And of course since they’re geniuses they do cool Shit like this in the extras (use a comic page to switch between real movie and alternate scenes)
Nah. I like the theory that Miles 42 is actually a good guy in that universe and that he pairs up with our Miles to do good in #3.
Man, they go with the hero angle, then they add Jharrel to SM4 or Secret Wars and pair him up with Kate Bishop….I’d flip out so much.
Still the best scene: “I CANT LET SPIDER-MAN DIE!!!” ‘Neither can I!!!” “ITS OK” “Yeah, it is ok…” “How do I know I won’t mess it up again?” “YOU WONT..” “That’s right…it’s…” “A leap of faith.”
Just bc I felt like starting my Saturday off right. Just an absolutely incredible scene from the music the the visuals. Just perfection
