In terms of franchise importance and activity in the movies, the closest I can think of in recent memory is Paul Walker. That final scene crushed me...and they could just write him out of future movies for “family reasons”. I have no idea how you pass on the character of BP and leave T’Challa alive. It’s gross to think in this moment, but I think you push the movie back and recast him. I think the character of BP and T’Challa needs to live on, for more than Marvel’s sake.
Absolutely devastating. On a human level. On a cultural level. As a fan of Marvel and film in general. Just an immeasurable loss. Not sure how you recast him, and I don't even want to think about that right now. Fuck cancer and fuck this stupid year.
My Chadwick Boseman story: I hung out with him just a couple of times when he was filming Get On Up. We were at this bar/restaurant where he was dining, and the inside is kind of setup with picnic tables and you can freely mingle around. The two of us knew someone on the film crew and sat at their table. Chadwick was so nice and down to earth, and engaging with everyone. Subsequently they asked us where to go next and we recommended this juke joint, one of the last authentic juke joints in the area. It was a great time, however we chose not to ingratiate ourselves and be “groupies” so we sat down the bar some. Chadwick came over to us and just sat with us for an hour and we all talked about normal shit. He didn’t have to join us but wanted to. He was just so nice and I’m tearing up writing this because life is so unfair. After that he went to the dance floor and showed us the James Brown dance moves he had learned. He told us earlier that day he had practiced 90 splits. Crazy. Btw he was an incredible dancer. You thought it was James Brown. He was so talented.
I think the best bet is Shuri. She’s already taken up the mantle of Black Panther in the comics. Just have to figure out the right story to tell. - Movie Shuri is more laid back, witty and doesn’t seem to be interested in the throne or the role of black panther - Comic book Shuri was the complete opposite. She wanted to prove that a female could succeed in the role as black panther
As PeterGriffin said above, they do have a character in the comics that takes up Tony Stark’s mantle. RiRi Williams aka Ironheart, along with Tony Stark as her A.I.
Given comic books, I'd love the angry posts from assholes if the MCU has black women as Iron Heart, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther at the same time.
I know it’s been posted before but what is the link showing the watch list for all movies in order? And I guess should I watch in chronological order or by release date?
More or less this... Captain America: First Avenger Captain Marvel Iron Man The Incredible Hulk (Ed Norton) Iron Man 2 Thor The Avengers Iron Man 3 Thor: Dark World Captain America: Winter Soldier Guardians of the Galaxy Guardians of the Galaxy, V2 Avengers: Age of Ultron Doctor Strange Ant-Man Captain America: Civil War Spider-Man: Homecoming Black Panther Ant-Man & The Wasp* Thor: Ragnarok Avengers: Infinity War *Ant-Man & The Wasp mid credit scene Avengers: End-Game Spider-Man: Far From Home
Didn't really want to get into this last night, but the stuff I read was more that he was looking for a deal that would pay him similar to Evans and Hemsworth, but Marvel was balking. Those were just the rumors I saw out there. And it would have been a PR disaster of epic proportions for Marvel if that was really true and they weren't willing to give him that, which is why I never really bought it. RDJ money isn't a real thing for anyone else, I don't think. It was just a huge negotiation win for RDJ when they took a chance on him and no one else is going to get that.
Yeah no one will ever get an RDJ like deal again, not now that the MCU train is already full steam ahead. But a deal that says "you're as important to us as Hemsworth/Evans" is a deal he deserved, especially with Evans done and Hemsworth about to be. He was supposed to be part of the next generation of MCU guys that carried the franchise.
1. He was cast two years before being diagnosed 2. Coogler didn't know so I doubt execs at Disney or Marvel did
I would guarantee select people at Marvel knew. But you can’t fire him for that or terminate his contract legally I would imagine... It’s protected.
I doubt Disney signs him up knowing he had a terminal cancer. Didn’t they sign him up before he was even diagnosed?
Correct. And Coogler confirmed today that he didn’t know about Chadwick’s diagnosis. Coogler’s full statement is moving.
Winston Duke is so fucking good as MBaku. No surprise given Coogler’s account of his audition w Boseman I suppose.
one of my favorite parts In IW “This will be the end of Wakanda." "Then it will be the noblest ending in history”
Probably brought up, but Boseman passing on the combination of the MLK March, Jackie Robinson Day, and the birthday of Black Panther creator Jack Kirby is some symmetry. Also, fuck yeah https://www.indy100.com/article/cha...uth-carolina-petition-9697181?ocid=uxbndlbing
