It's hard to rank based on popularity because in a lot of ways you're not ranking the characters as much as the actors who played them in the MCU.
I still think Spidey is #1 overall. Every kid under 12 loves Spidey (and Miles might be a borderline top 10 character now). But with the MCU I think it goes 1 Spidey 2 Cap 3 IM 4 Thor. What about T’Challa? He has to be in the top. Then I don’t know. Wolvie, Hulk, Deadpool? I remember growing up and GR and Blade were my favs. What happens when Mahershala is on the big screen?
Yeah but they’ve still permanently raised the profile of those characters. Id probably say it’s Spidey Iron Man Cap Thor BP Logan
Yeah I think the top 2 are set (I may argue IM at #1 but it’s very close) and then there’s a big gap to the rest of them. BP was a lock to climb to #3 and maybe could’ve gotten into that top group.
I think there's clear top 3. Spiderman feels like the clear #1, with IM and Cap 2-3 in some order. I've been Team Thor since the first one because of Hemsworth, but I don't think Thor is even close to that top 3. Even Hemsworth couldn't make Thor all that exciting or interesting until his fifth appearance. Post-Ragnarok he's gained a lot of popularity, but I don't think it's anywhere near IM or Cap to the overall audience (or the film makers in the MCU).
I seriously considered moving him to 4 before Thor after thinking on it I still think Spidey is the most popular of all-time and Cap/IM are the most popular of the MCU era
I'd still put Captain America ahead. even though Spider-Man had a head start on movies, him and X-Men were hurt by inferior Sonyverse.. Cap Spiderman (Into the spiderverse helping a lot) Iron Man Black Panther (may be on a slight decline unfortunately) Thor Hulk XMen Now if they start making mcu wolverine movies this list changes.
I'm not sure what the metric is you're judging these characters by. But I'm pretty sure no matter what it is, Spider-Man is on top. He's S tier.
Marvel's Shang-Chi Wraps Filming With Powerful Message from Simu Liu http://www.ign.com/articles/2020/10...s-filming-with-powerful-message-from-simu-liu
Is that a personal list? because there's no multiverse where Cap ranks ahead of Spidey in any ranking.
Captain America was a C list hero at best before the MCU, and even within the MCU he wasn't the character that was boosted the highest, Iron Man was.
As far as image rehabilitation, Cap went from a cheesy laughingstock to almost unanimous approval, for non comic book fans.
Cap didn’t capture my favor or attention until Winter Soldier. First Avenger was just a little too corny and he felt too goody two shoes. Once he breaks from authority and becomes the anti-regulation faction leader, he just became so much more interesting.
Didn’t help that Whedon didn’t do a good job with him. Russos nailed the tone and feel of the character
The legacy of Whedon in the MCU after the Russos took over the second half of the run is kind of weird. Pulling off Avengers like that was amazing, but Cap and Thor both got significantly better after he left to the point that it's hard to ignore how rough both characters were when you re-watch the first two Avengers movies.
Yes. Same thing happened with Paul Rudd when trades broke that he was Ant Man before Marvel/Disney announced it.
The Ringer's Binge Mode pod is doing the MCU, first episode up is Iron Man https://www.theringer.com/2020/10/27/21535771/binge-mode-marvel-iron-man
It’s sad but seriously impressive that Kinberg fucked up the Dark Phoenix story twice. And he’s made millions of dollars failing at it.
It's about time someone did a podcast about that hidden gem of a film. I hope they mentioned Iron Man eating a cheeseburger as a parallel to Robert Downey Jr wanting a cheeseburger around the time he was going through rehab.
Whedon didn't have anything to do with Captain America: The First Avenger. That was a Kevin Feige production directed by Joe Johnston. For that time period they covered, they got the characterization down while making him less corny than the comics from the 40's.
AoU was such a waste. Luckily Ultron has been rebooted like a million times so hopefully they bring him (and Spader because he was great) back.
ultron was wasted because of RDJ and his terrible IM3 script which should have been the precursor to AOU...
Or you know, they could’ve actually stuck to comic book storyline and had him be the unintended creation Hank Pym
