Oooooo I like this....agreed on Ruffalo, he was great in the Avengers, but turrible in Infinity War. Whatever that guys name was who played Quiksilver was pretty bad, but he never really got a chance to shine
Ruffalo is awkward and annoying, and not really all that funny he’s fine as a Bruce Banner but isn’t a great fit in the MCU
A little harsh. I think he does the troubled part of Banner pretty well, and as much as I really don't think I'm a fan of new Hulk, I think it takes advantage of his personality a lot better than just Banner. I do despise some of his facial expressions as Hulk though. When he steps forward to wear the gauntlet and when we first meet him in the diner in Endgame, are two that stick out, and actually aggravate me just to think about right now. Actually, the more I think about it, the less I like him. I just don't know how well you can cast Hulk. I loved Norton(but am an admitted fanboy), but I'm not sure he works for what they wanted for the character.
I will say about QS though, he's a completely different character than how FOX was using the character, and I liked his rapport with Barton in AOU. I think he definitely could have done the part justice in a well-written(read: overseen by Feige) X-Men movie.
Ruffalo's performance, and Hulk's story in general, annoyed me in IW. Just thought his acting was weird, and I hated how they decided that he needed to be just like Tony with the one-liners once he got into the suit. Can't think of any other casting stuff I don't like.
He just has zero instincts for comedy or comedic timing. It’s a shame Ed Norton is a massive pain in the ass to work with, because he’s actually good with comedy in Wes Anderson’s films
re-watched Spiderman 2 last night, what a film Enjoyed catching some of the references that I missed since I haven't seen it in a while. Dr. Curt Connors being a professor, Jameson referencing "Dr. Strange" and saying that name had already been taken
The comedy thing I don't really put on him in IW. It's not like he was acting in those moments in the suit. It's all added after the fact. The weird acting stuff for me were the moments like the scene with him/Stark/Strange in NY where they're explaining the stones. Or when Cap and crew come back to NY and they're trying to figure out a plan. Some of his facial expressions and the way he delivers some of those lines are just weird.
I think Hulk's arc(and I don't think it's finished, now that they can effectively have a Hulk that can speak for extended scenes) is really the only thing that felt botched. Outside of stopping Fenrir, and a couple punches on an unphased Surtur, Hulk got his ass kicked for 3 straight movies...and then the only payoff was being the one to be able to perform the snap without dying.
Ruffalo really makes you appreciate how good Hemsworth's comedic timing is, especially when they were directly next to each other in Ragnorak. The Loki turned into a snake and stabbing Thor story is probably a top 5 funniest scene in all of MCU and it was completely just Hemsworth ad-libbing, it was originally suppose to be a fully acted out flash back scene but Hemsworth was so good that Taika decided to leave it in as is.
It says something about Ruffalo that his best speaking parts in the entire series have been as stupid Hulk in Ragnarok.
Ruffalo is the worst but Norton wasn't any better, or Bana for that matter, or even Bixby. No one has been able to play Banner as a convincing super genius scientist. Ruffalo has the weirdest line deliveries, but also he's had bad material from both Whedon and the Russos. Norton was too stiff. Bana was barely engaged. Bixby wasn't asked to play the comic character at all.
Disagree on Norton. I think if you'd put him on screen with RDJ during the Ultron creation scene(and made it more than a 17 second montage), that scene gets infinitely better and he can play as Stark's equal.
Sure, but he wasn't a main cast, I didn't even include Ruffalo as a main cast. I consider the main ones the ones that have had at least 1 solo movie.
I didn't like Portman's casting and I'm a huge fan of hers. Hopefully she kills it in Love and Thunder.
The very last “of course” is just perfect. The only good thing to come out of the terrible female Ghostbusters film was for the world to see what a great comedic actor Hemsworth can be when given the opportunity
While doing my rewatch last night, I was like, "the one question I have for Jon is, 'Did you anticipate you would have so many movies and residuals coming your way casting yourself as Happy?'" Like.... bro is getting so much money off residuals alone.
I think she does. She's got Taika, she knows her reputation now and how she wanted to quit/caved it in on Thor 2. I think she makes up for it, but it's going to be because 1) Taika 2) Hemsworth 3) She's a terrific actress and fucking falls in
Felt Rockwell and Guy Pierce were under utilized in the IM movies. I'll avoid mentioning the abortion that was the Mandarin storyline. In fact, IDK how much input/influence RDJ had with IM2 and 3 but those movies are easily of the bottom of the MCU list with Thor 2.
RDJ is the greatest casting of them all. And that doesn’t even mean a slight to the rest but it’s beyond perfect, and also set the course for the MCU.
Pretty telling, there are so many nominees. Could easily make an argument for Chris Evans, the earnest he plays Cap with is so perfect
Norton-to-Ruffalo talk reminds me of the best switch they made - switching Rhodes from Howard to Cheadle. He’s way better than Howard was, especially with where they wound up taking the character.
He claimed that RDJ stabbed him in the back about the pay. I don't believe him, but just adding to the conversation. https://screenrant.com/why-terrence-howard-didnt-return-for-iron-man-2-salary/
Howard is a well-known asshole. There’s a lot of stories of bullshit on-set and around town when they film Empire in Chicago. Including the cops coming to the set one day and arresting him for not paying child support. He’s also a marginal actor, continuing to get paid off of two early career roles that managed to work out (Hustle & Flow, Best Man).
