I think they’d be pretty happy with this. Says it’s right along lines with quantumania’s opening. Reactions drop tonight.
Really hope this is good, he deserves it. No matter how good it is social media is going to skewer it.
He used to be really bad about over hyping from opening night adrenaline but he’s gotten better. Sounds pretty good.
was hoping it was just being review-bombed by chuds, but seeing some legitimate critics crush it as well.
Falling about where I expected, figured it’d be closer to the 60-70 range. I’ll paraphrase Eric Voss’ review, “if you liked the tone of Winter Soldier and go in expecting a big cinematic ‘cap’ to the Fat Dubs story you’ll be happy, if you go in comparing it to Civil War you’ll be very disappointed.” My guess is its like MoM, if you know the D+ backstory you’re going to like it a lot more. I doubt the emotional weight of Sam being black but deciding to wear the flag or the Isaiah Bradley’s backstory hit for those that didn’t watch Fat Dubs.
Twist from the latest Spidey eps. Spoiler “With great power comes great RESPECT. Give the world a reason to respect you.”
have tickets for saturday morning with my 5 year old and of course we bought the red hulk popcorn bucket
I enjoyed that very much. Coherent story, good performances, callbacks meant something to the story, right amount of MCU humor, and thought the pacing was perfect. Also just one credit scene and it’s at the very end.
Do I need to watch Quantumania before seeing this? Because it's the one MCU movie I haven't seen and from everything I've read about it I would prefer to keep it that way.
Being able to find a role for Tim Blake Nelson that makes sense after around 17 years was cool, he’s such a great actor. (Josh Trank F4 movie isn’t spoken about in these parts)
It was fine to good. Much better than Quantamanium, Eternals, LnT. For Marvel films it probably slides in somewhere around the bottom of middle tier or very top of the bottom tier. I thought Mackie, Ford, and TBN were really good. Action was really good. Lots of silly shield and wing stuff happening which rules. I thought the CGI was fine throughout. Torres was ok. Actor was fine but his dialogue and scenes were meh. Tiny girl I didn’t like at all. Only good part was her thirsting over the hunky cameo. She was so tiny. Dialogue was pretty clunky and some scenes were choppy. Maybe that was just me looking for choppiness from the reshoots. Also the score was really bad imo. Multiple times it took me out of a scene. If they could afford a Williams/Silvestre/Giachinno I think I’d bump it up my rankings 4 or 5 spots. Biggest issue with the movie though Spoiler You really going to give us 2 scenes on the raft and can’t give us some Zemo!? Come on!
Esposito/reshoot conspiracy I’m fairly confident is accurate Spoiler Go woke go broke!!! I’m sure there was a very vocal sect in those initial screenings that weren’t happy with the Black and Hispanic hero’s taking down the evil white president. So let’s add a black secondary villain. They probably added more redemption in for Ross as well. Thought his character development was choppy. I wonder if in the OG version he was in more of a linear breakdown. Slowly getting angrier, meaner, more unhinged. Instead he was nice guy, then really mean (called Sam ‘son’, geese), then angry, then apologetic, then angry again but still redeemable. Ross doesn’t need redeemed. Black guy can be the hero and white guy can be evil.
It’s the worst Cap movie unfortunately though, which sucks cause Mackie was good and could be even better with the right writing and direction. Should have let Coogler do it.
Spoiler Some lady in my theater let the screen have it. “You made us wait for THAT!? Where the fuck are the Avengers or Fantastic Four? This is BULL SHIT!” They were also smoking some crazy dank weed so no need to complain.
