The article mentions that Johansson was afraid in ‘19 that they would try to release it on Disney+. That wasn’t true. They were going full theatrical release. I think Disney was projecting at least $750 million. As mentioned already, it won’t get close to that. I’m assuming the $50 million claim is based off the 3/4 billion earning projection.
That had the benefit of coming out in the interim between Infinity War and Endgame, when hype was as high as it could possibly be. Put Black Widow in that spot and it would have done similar numbers, I bet. Maybe not as high considering the story is set during Civil War, but high.
But for real, I imagine they settle and Disney doesn’t have to argue in court that female leading super hero movies make significantly less money than those with male leads.
Her team will claim it would have made the same as Captain Marvel or at least the $800,000,000 that Black Panther would have made. Their worst case damages will focus on the box office plus the expected box office spend from families that streamed and the loss from the resulting easy piracy,A little lower than the latter is what D+ will offer to settle at to start. They'll find a percentage in the middle, because every contract from now on will consider this issue and getting a court ruling won't help D+ or the Screen Actors Guild, because this is a one off.
How canon is the All Hail the King one shot? Seems like it might at least get a call out in Shang-Chi?
BW is a fantastic movie as a stand-alone. I never expected anything that would change my perspective of the post-CW MCU. I feel like this is very similar to when Stephen King wrote The Wind Through the Keyhole as sorta The Dark Tower novel 4.5... it fills a hole with moderately entertaining stuff that ultimately has zero impact long-term. With the exception of Florence Pugh with a Russian accent... I'd sure love to impact HER long-term.
I want to say I never really watched these movies until quarantine last year and now that I have I absolutely love them. I was curious to everyone else’s opinion on the worst ones. I’m doing a 3rd watch and I got to say, Hulk, Iron Man 3 and Doctor Strange I could easily skip. Also can’t stand Kurt Russell in Guardians 2 I was surprised how much I enjoyed the two Ant Mans. And after all the hype for years of Black panther, it still exceeded my expectations
Surprised Doctor Strange make your bottom 3 and Kurt for me was not really important to that movie Yondu all the way, so I see what you’re saying
My partner hated Dr Strange, says no one should get superpowers by being an insufferable asshole and texting while driving. She has a point.
I started to reply that he goes on a journey and learns his lesson but...he kinda doesn't. He lives like a beggar for a little while and then gets god-like powers. I don't recall him ever even acknowledging the texting while driving thing. Seems like a missed opportunity for some character growth.
At some point he switches from selfish (I just want my hands back) to selfless (dedicating the rest of my life to being the Sorc Supreme) but I don’t remember what flicked that switch.
They use the scene where he gets stabbed and shows up to his old hospital to have surgery. He does a bunch of apologizing to Rachel McAdams. And I’m guessing all those books he read from Kamar-Taj’s library opened his eyes. But yeah, there wasn’t some long journey throughout the movie to when he’s no longer 100% a dick.
Ok, so I'm just going to throw this out there and I may get stoned for it but I'm thinking Spider-Man trailer next Tuesday or never. It would be crazy if they waited until September after Shang-Chi came out but also interesting.. if somehow that movie is pivotal to the Multi-verse and part of the setup but I doubt it.
So when Agt. Colson died in The Avengers and then came back in Agents of Shield, is the canon explanation (going to be) that he was a variant?
I bet we see multiple spider-man characters but all in costume, no faces. We'll know who they are cause it'll be the Raimi suit and the Amazing suit (hopefully the second) but they'll save Tobey and Andrew for trailer 2
