The description of the drawing makes it seem like he knew he was sick and was practically begging someone to stop him from doing it, and the parents didn't even want him pulled out of school. Holy fucking shit. I can't understand how anyone with all their faculties could be that much of a fucking moron to not at the very least take him home for the day and talk with him.
Im commenting on the fact that they attribute one of the most famous quotes in human history to a violent video game instead of Oppenheimer
From a “gory video game” It’s a quote from the creator of the atomic bomb, J Robert Oppenheimer. but it’s also inside edition, a shit show that help create pos bill o’riley
i said charged not convicted. But,it was funny to see your post with literally the next one saying they were being charged.
I'm sure things have changed some since then but when I was in middle school a kid threw a shoe and accidentally hit a teacher with it and they suspended then expelled him immediately.
things have changed a lot. At my wife’s school a teacher was punched and the student was in the class the next day. They practice something called restorative justice which is a lot less punitive. It sounds good on paper but in practice doesn’t seem to work.
I got suspended in 6th grade for calling an 8th grade girl a bitch. Guess I should have just pumped her full of lead instead.
Honestly surprised (I probably shouldn't be) that none of the kids said "fuck that, I'm not getting in this photo that will be permanently on the internet".
Got suspended for a week in HS for putting the yearbook teacher in Wikipedia as a human-fly hybrid animal with a cool photoshop pic and everything. Everyone’s so soft
Disregarding it's Fox for a second, is that accurate that the school admin never asked the parents if he had access to a gun? I feel like that should be an early stage question when you know the kid is a psycho but I'm not a school administrator.
How does this work in a school setting? The punched teacher and student sit down to discuss what the punishment should be?
I haven’t asked her the logistics. But, I assume it’s a meeting with parents, students, administrators and teachers. I think it’s over correcting and some students take advantage because they believe there are no consequences. But to be clear the teacher can press charges. My FIL is visiting so I’ll ask her when she is free.
Truman my wife said she doesn’t think there was any discussion between the student and teacher. That it was just the administration telling the kid that “what they did was wrong and not to do it again”. She believes that if the administration actually followed through with what restorative justice means and wants it might work but that they don’t. That they are more concerned with numbers and appearance than with actually doing anything. Having less students expelled and suspended is better for their numbers for funding.
Would not mind if this precedent were one of those slippery slopes conservatives are always terrified of. Gun in your house? You're responsible for what happens with it.
went down a rabbit hole last night about this. Found this article which I thought was interesting: https://www.wired.co.uk/article/manhattan-project-robert-oppenheimer
Counseling was recommended for him, and his parents were notified that they had 48 hours to seek counseling for their child or the school would contact Child Protective Services. When the parents were asked to take their son home for the day, they flatly refused and left without their son, apparently to return to work. Given the fact that the child had no prior disciplinary infractions, the decision was made he would be returned to the classroom rather than sent home to an empty house. Parents of Michigan shooter were more concerned about missing work than getting help for their son
“Gun nut parents refuse to get psychological help for their child because they have to go to work” is quite the microcosm of America.
can't imagine what they're going to uncover when they start going through their devices I couldn't get through her letter to Trump, it read like she was writing fucking santa clause
Sure fine. You're responsible for any mass knifings done with a knife you bought. I'm sure the arrests will pile up
Oh, okay, we're only concerned with mass shootings. I thought we were actually talking about gun deaths.
The kid’s 15 - not 5. The options aren’t “be in parental custody at home” and “continue normal day at school.” If you think he can’t be home alone because he’s a threat to himself or others, you can send him to the hospital to be evaluated. The parents are awful human beings but the school is a complete failure as well.
I was obviously responding to the idea that just because there is a gun in your house you're responsible for anything anyone does with it. Imagine reading Timo's post and accusing me of arguing in bad faith.
We already have that with automobiles because cars are considered a dangerous instrumentality. If cars are dangerous instruments, doesn’t it stand to reason that guns are, too?
alright, so let me put it a different way. A couple of weeks ago, in Washington, DC, a one year old picked up a gun that a parent (or other adult) had left on a table and blew his own face off. He's dead. Should the gun owner be punished? Y/N
