I tend to agree. Upon second viewing of this season, Francesca is nice to look at but pretty fucking boring.
I agree. As a guy you like the looks but I can see why a girl wouldn't. It's not as if Aziz is a great actor that pulls off the dramatic side well. I liked this season a lot but probably liked one better overall.
season 1 had that same relationship arc with the first girl. even an episode where they lived together for like a year it just didn't touch on any of his artsy episodes like the I Love New York one or the one that kind of hit on some major topics like the Thanksgiving episode. Francesca is what we call in Italy, bella
The I Love New York ep was probably my least favorite of the series Agree with dump that season 2 was more artsy and guys may like it more just because Francesca is adorable...even if she is a little boring. There were some arcs like that Arnold ex-girlfriend wedding episode that seemed a little out of place, but were still entertaining. Probably like season 1 slightly better... a little funnier and a little more well rounded imo, but both are excellent
Just finished. I actually wanted him to end up with the make up girl. But the Francesca storyline is just so brutally relatable
Re: aziz's parents acting skills He was on npr fresh air and said both his parents take vacation days to be on the show. His mom specifically does not like being on camera and requested less screen time in season 2. He said both his parents really only keep doing it so that they can spend more time with aziz and his brother.
Watched episodes 4-10 while hungover today. Really really enjoyed this season, maybe more than season 1, am in love with that Italian actress, and am bummed to (I assume) have to wait another year and a half at least before another season.
Watched S2 this weekend. Incredible. I'm not sure what to think of the ending, though. Did it happen or not? The Thanksgiving episode ended in 2017 - so in the future - and she wasn't there. But she didn't have a ring on and wasn't in the same clothes from the first night she spent there, so it wasn't a flashback. And it wasn't some wishful dream, either, considering the look of angst (if not regret) that Francesca had. I don't want to read too much into a three second shot that may or may not be real, anyways, but things didn't seem all too peachy there for everyone despite Dev and her being together. I want to believe things work out between them - they definitely have real chemistry - but the parallels between John/Dev and Francesca/Dev are pretty blatant. I guess it's an ambiguous ending in that you can take away what you want from it. I'm taking away that she did leave Pino and started up with Dev so the last scene was reality. And based on what we're shown in the rest of the season, I'd think they'd be able to work through things. But maybe she goes back to Modena before Thanksgiving. I can't explain that part.
Maybe they also ended it that way in case that is it as a show. He mentioned how exhausted he was and it might be 18 months before season 3. I took as she came back.
I think it will wind up like Curb Your Enthusiasm where the past 3 or 4 seasons (including the upcoming one) have just been when Larry decides he has enough material and wants to do it. Could see the same with Aziz - maybe we don't get season 3 for two to three years.
IMO season 3 could be done without the character of Dev. I would still want Aziz to be involved in the writing/ideas, but to me the show is about millennials/dating/life in the city as a whole and not just one particular character. As has been pointed out here, some of the characters (Francesca) are kind of placeholders anyway. I could definitely see a whole season of episodes like "I Love New York" etc
I liked it a lot but my one gripe is some of that material was rehashed from his book/standup. Still enjoyed the episode but if you've seen everything Aziz has done it was a little unsurprising
Favorite part that hasn't been mentioned is the Korean dad's struggles with dating two women at once. Him telling his son he told both straight up that he was dating another woman, and the camera zooming out to reveal Arnold also sitting at the table with them was hilarious.
just finished season 2. as much as i loved season 1, 2 blew it out of the water. loved the thanksgiving and i love new york episodes
I'll say it: The "I Love New York" episode was my least favorite of the season. Maybe the entire series.
Outside of the deaf couple, it was not particularly good at all imo. But when I realized why the sound had dropped out...that moment was genius.
Binged entire season 2. Handcuffed not gonna quote your whole post, but it should be noted that we don't really know the timeline. Because he takes so much time off between seasons, he can really make a season span as long as he wants. There's a good chance that the Thanksgiving 2017 wasn't in the future for the show. Really liked his and Rachel's chemistry in season 1, but I think Francesca killed it. Maybe it was just because it was always set to Italian music, but their scenes in the apartment were really good. Tough to say what I think will happen, versus what I want to happen, but I could definitely seeing season 3 being the last one.
Whether they have or have not been cheated on(and I assume most have in their life, at some point), I think women don't typically like storylines like season 2. At the heart of the season is real romance, but the constant reminder of it being cheating tends to sour it. jmo
Just started the second season. Not feeling all this Italian language stuff. How many episodes does this Italian stuff last?
That season came out like two years ago. My bad for not remembering a two-year-old show. I'm sure you remember everything from every show you watched that aired two years ago, right?
