yeah. I don’t care how shitty an AD is... the athletic department has at least kicked the tires and thrown some stuff around already
We had already hired the same search firm we used to land Kermit Davis before any announcement was made.
Hey pal, I’m just going to shit post and respond to unaccredited twitter accounts as if they’re fact until I feel better about my own program.
Norvell would be a good fit. Of course Kiffin brings a circus with him, but in a fun way and could energize the program. also think Ole Miss would be foolish not at least speak with Bill Clark. May not be the sexy hire, but I think he deserves a chance at the next level of coaching and Ole Miss makes sense.
Clark would be a really good hire for Ole Miss. M. Norvell could hold out for a better job I think. I guess Jay Norvell hasn't done a bad job at Nevada. That isn't the easiest place to win.
Of all the coaches we are rumored to be talking to/have talked to I think Keith is doing a really good job so far. I think Boyce is letting it be his show.
He has 20-25 head coaches. He’s just great at making sure they’re all mentioned. There’s a very good chance that we haven’t met with any of the names mentioned and/or have met with several not mentioned.
Agent. Singular. All of those names being thrown around are Sexton clients. That’s 100% his m.o. because he doesn’t negotiate actual contract terms, just the compensation amounts.
The only thing I know for sure is whoever you hire, our fanbase will go crazy since we didn’t make a move.
From our Rivals guy: Spoiler Today is going to be quiet, which means rumors will fill the void. Be forewarned. We're not propagating rumors, mind you, but others will. If we're spreading a rumor, we'll tell you it's a rumor. Ole Miss, I am continually told, is going after Memphis' Mike Norvell. Period. He will have to tell Ole Miss no before they move on. Period. Sources are insistent on this. Might they be lying to me? Sure. However, they're emphatic. I believe them. Will Norvell say no? I don't know. Florida State is a very real threat. Rumors and speculation that Norvell has a deal in place with Florida State, I'm told, are false. I was told Norvell doesn't yet have an offer to accept or reject and he will not speak to anyone until Saturday's AAC title game against Cincinnati is over. Arkansas, I am told, remains very focused on FAU's Lane Kiffin. I was told this morning it does not appear Kiffin is on Ole Miss' radar. I think that's too strong, as other sources have said Ole Miss is absolutely looking at Kiffin. However, I continuously hear Keith Carter is "scared of" or "worried about" Kiffin due to some of his past issues. Arkansas, I am told, is not scared. The Razorbacks believe Kiffin would sell beaucoup season tickets and breathe life into a dormant program. The other names I hear today are Louisiana-Lafayette's Billy Napier and Charlotte's Will Healy. Napier makes some sense but some believe he's waiting on something bigger and would bet on himself in Lafayette for another year. Personally, I don't buy that. Healy's name won't go away. He's 34, new age, energetic, etc. One source compared him to Hugh Freeze (not in an off-the-field way, but in the gimmicky team-building way that was super successful at first at Ole Miss). The source said, "They're looking for the next Hugh Freeze." I'll be honest: Something tells me I'm missing something. I'm trying to figure out what that is. Maybe I'm dialed in but I think I'm missing someone/something. More as we get it.
I really hope y'all get Napier. When he was at Clemson, everyone associated with the program said he would be a great head coach one day. Him and Dabo just didn't see eye-to-eye with their offensive philosophies. He is also one of the best recruiters I've ever seen.
Would the boosters have to come up with an abortion/child support fund just out of principle for letting Lane loose in the Grove?
UPDATES: Spoiler: 1 Yet another source tells me this morning Mike Norvell has decided nothing. Norvell absolutely intends to coach his game Saturday and then sit down sometime Saturday night or Sunday and evaluate his options. I'm told this morning Arkansas is not giving up on Norvell. They know they're a long shot, but Norvell has not told Arkansas no, despite reports to that effect. This most recent source does believe Norvell will ultimately take the Florida State job. Someone with knowledge of Will Healy's situation told me today Arkansas, Missouri and Ole Miss have reached out to him. However, Healy has not met with Ole Miss to this point, per this source. A source said familiar with Lane Kiffin's thinking told us this morning Kiffin prefers Ole Miss to Arkansas and want the Ole Miss job "BAD." I was also told this morning ULL coach Billy Napier "would walk to Ole Miss," so don't let people tell you he wouldn't take the Ole Miss job if it were offered. As of this moment, that's all I've got. Spoiler: 2 Just a little update on Missouri, since I've been updating Missouri: I don't think the Jim McElwain stuff is accurate. Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson interviewed and apparently has a shot at the job. There's been an apparent roadblock of sorts in the Missouri-Will Healy negotiations. It's something that could get worked out, I'd think, but that search is definitely ongoing. Spoiler: 3 This isn't coy. It's literally what I've heard from a couple of sources in the last hour: There is some traction with Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin. That's it. That's all I know. There's some traction. And let me clarify something. While one source told us this morning Kiffin prefers Ole Miss to Arkansas, another is emphatic Kiffin would absolutely take the Razorbacks job if it were offered. I believe Ole Miss can get Kiffin, but I believe Arkansas can, too. Spoiler: 4 I know an Arkansas message board thread is linked below with some of this, but before I noticed that I got confirmation of what's going on at Arkansas from a really good source. Lane Kiffin and Hunter Yurachek are enamored with one another and somewhat on the same page. However, Arkansas power brokers -- namely Jerry Jones and Johnny Tyson -- are against Kiffin and that's created a hold up in Fayetteville which allows Ole Miss an opening if it wants to take it. Kiffin wants Ole Miss, but he obviously would take Arkansas, too. So the kerfuffle between Arkansas and itself could be good news for Ole Miss. Spoiler: 5 I don't have much to add to what Chase just posted. Just this: Ole Miss is absolutely not out on Mike Norvell. Not at all. There's some Billy Napier talk out there today, but I think he's third or fourth choice at best at this moment. I think this job remains Norvell's to turn down. Should he, the Kiffin stuff comes into play. The only other names I'm hearing at all are Bryan Harsin and Will Healy. At this point, no one seems to believe it goes that far. Spoiler: 6 The following is some speculation, but it's informed: If all is even for Norvell, I believe he'll pick Florida State. Norvell, per sources, is concerned about his legacy at Memphis. The program has meant everything to him -- hired him when others didn't, stuck with him, supported him, embraced him, etc. If he leaves for Florida State, that legacy is fine. He's forever a hero, a legend, in Memphis. If he goes to Ole Miss, not so much. Further, especially if Memphis wins Saturday, Norvell wants to coach the Tigers' bowl game. Memphis, some have said, is cool with that if he's the Florida State coach. It didn't hurt UCF when Scott Frost coached one more game there after taking the Nebraska job. However, if Norvell is the Ole Miss coach, well, that's a tiger of a different stripe, pardon the pun. I've got one national athletic director source (not Bjork, not Carter, I promise on my children's lives) who doesn't believe Norvell will even give Ole Miss a real audience. Now, I don't necessarily think that's true; in fact, I don't think that's accurate in the end. However, this guy is familiar with the inner workings at Memphis and that's what he believes. He firmly believes Mike Norvell will be the head coach at Florida State by Sunday night or Monday. Spoiler: 7
So much Kiffin wants Ole Miss over Ark. some true home board writing. still don’t see the name they need to talk too. Clark. People may same I’m crazy, but they should at least talk to Fedora.
You might as well call Tuberville, if you want to talk to Fedora. He is beyond terrible. He can't get along with anybody, or recruit. Sorry for just popping up in this thread, but this is the most intriguing hire, imo. Even more than FSU.
Besides the fact that he's a petty, childish douche who once took a commitment from a kid who raped his cousin with a plunger? I think there's a really large gap between "can beat most C-USA teams" and "can succeed in the SEC at a mid-to-lower level school" and I feel pretty confident that he falls short on that. Here's how he's fared against non-con opponents with a pulse: Navy - Lost 19-42 @ Wis - Lost 14-31 @ OK - Lost 14-63 @ UCF - Lost 36-56 @OSU - Lost 21-45 UCF - Lost 14-48 Here's a list of the team's he's defeated at FAU: WKU x 3 Wagner UTSA USM UNT x 2 ODU x 3 MTSU x 2 Marsh LT FIU x 3 Charlotte x 2 Bethune Cookman x 2 Ball State AKR Air Force He's been mediocre at USC and Tennessee and he was 5-7 last year at FAU. He's not beating good teams and he doesn't seem capable of out-scheming teams with a talent advantage. So about the only way he succeeds is by having a talent advantage and I think it's a lot more likely the fanbase turns on him before he gets the talent he needs... and I still think he'd lose 4-5 a year if he ever got there.
I appreciate the explanation. Even with that, I still believe he’d be a great hire for us. I see it almost as “winning the press conference.” — it would generate immediate national attention, and crazy hype for the season, but perhaps down the road when he’s 6-6 we may look back and wonder why we didn’t hire someone like Will Healy. Or Kiffin wins us nine games, which would be amazing.
IMO - using Kiffin's record at Tennessee and USC is pretty useless imo. He failed at those stops because he was an entitled, immature dude not ready for the job. If he's being considered again for a P5 job, the consensus must be he's grown and matured. If you want to criticize his coaching decisions at UAF or at Bama - that;s more relevant.
They tried to hire that fuckstick back in 2011 or whenever it was when Hugh Freeze became the backup plan and ultimate hire.
Idk saban fired him before the title game and i thought it was well known if he hadn’t landed a HC job he was done there
He said in his opening presser at USM that the flagship university of the state resided in Hattiesburg. He’d have to walk that back I’d imagine.
