This is a typical few terraces of houses in Wales, and many parts of the UK:

 

But at least those houses were built for efficiency. Houses in the Houston suburbs are the shape of two duplos stacked on top of each other and Dan, a store manager at a Discount Tire, thinks 1,900 square feet and 4 bedrooms is a sign of wealth.

 

Every single one of the houses posted looks like they were in The Big Short

This one is famous in my home town, but a little sad. Was the home of the guy with at one point the 7th largest car dealership enterprise in the US. Valued at roughly $18M, then the company went bankrupt in 2008 and everything was auctioned off, think it sold for $4M.

it was always ridiculous as it’s 2-3 times the size of even the second nicest house in the city. Just a bunch of nice 5,000 sq footers then bam, 25,000 sq ft hotel looking house.

The guy who built it won the lottery, built this thing and then 2 years later was broke. Its been on the market ever since. Its such a bizarre place. Its built right off a main road and seems like it was built deliberately to look impressive from that road rather than be nice to live in. Even though its "only" 7700 sq ft its basically 1 room wide and a full block long.

 

A lot of athletes do dumb shit like this - they go back to their small towns and build a 10 million dollar house on a huge estate...that nobody with the means will ever ever ever be interested in buying.

The more expensive one has 6 acres of property though. Not sure about the 2 theatre one. Why someone would want 6 acres of property for a house plot is beyond me. I guess subdivide it and sell most of it?

Ive always heard the term used to describe very large, new construction homes on very small parcels that are just a few feet away from neighboring properties.

 

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the estimated market value is a bit low on that.

There was a house very similar to this along a drive I used to frequently take. It was four or five distinct sections and it was ugly. Anyhow someone redesigned it and it looks absolutely awesome now. Without a before I’m not sure an after would do it justice but next time I drive by I’ll see what I can do.

 

$96 psf does seem a little conservative.
