Jeffress has been quite shaky in his two rehab games so far. Losing Knebel was a big blow.
Maybe it's just me, but all 3 games were winnable if it wasn't for 1 inning each game that pissed everything away
We didn't fold either and clawed back down big
With that said
Williams and Albers suck
It sucks because for 2019 (or at least the next couple of months) this team is better with Burnes in the bullpen, but they really need to let him develop and figure shit out as a starter for the long term.
Burnes never had a problem with giving up HRs in the minors or in Milwaukee before this season. What the hell is this pitching coach doing with these guys. So stupid that we got cheap with Johnson (not buying the nonsense that he left to be closer to Nashville).
Solid job by the bullpen tonight. Hader didn't have it tonight but he got through his 1.1 innings and the rest of them were really good.
I'm guessing the new pitching coach isn't telling him to put the ball on a tee middle middle
Shaw tried to blow it there and line into a dp without scoring the runner on third but Muncey bailed us out.
I'm not saying I would want Villar still on the roster but...
Holy shit was that Schoop trade just pissing away assets. Villar is better than Schoop straight up, let alone paying the $ they did in addition to prospects.
Stop pumping fastballs middle middle for fucks sake
Literally 90mph meatballs down the middle
Poured my wine a bit early tonight
So many homerruns given up
Hope Burnes enjoys San Antonio and that he gets straightened out. I am ready to get rid of this pitching coach with most of these guys regressing badly. Should have just paid Derek Johnson top money because he would have been worth every penny.
I don't know what the answer is but we are approaching the need to shake things up in the pitching staff.
Maybe let Burnes do 6 - 8 weeks in the bullpen, stabilize that hole, and then around the all star break see if you can stretch him back out in July to start down the stretch. He can't do a full innings load on the rotation all season anyways.
Oh look Jeffress throwing 91
Cut Perez and fire Ed Sedar right now. Down three runs you get thrown out at home instead of bringing up Yelich as the tieing run? How can you be any dumber
I think we may have a problem
The answers for this pitching staff left when we allowed the best pitching coach in the league to go to a division rival and replaced him with a nobody. Cincinnati is 3rd in the league in ERA and we are next to last with far more talent.
The pitching other than pretty much Davies and Hader have been terrible and the lineup has been carried by 3 guys. If Shaw, Aguilar, and Braun are all going to be this awful the season is sunk regardless if the pitching staff wakes up or not.
Burnes sent down and something called Donnie Hart called up. I fully expect Corbin to get things turned around fast.
Hader was squeezed
Shaw and Jesus are horrendous with Braun a close 3rd
I'm wondering if Grandal is a part of the problem with the pitching too. Iirc people say he's not good at calling a game and Greinke pretty much refused to pitch to him.
Aguilar is a far worse hitter than any of our pitchers. We desperately need at least one if not two righthanded bats. This lineup is just way too lefthanded with only Cain and I guess Grandal being threats from the right side.
Aguilar, Shaw, and Braun have all been terrible and I am not sure any of the three turn it around. Braun at least has hit a few balls hard but the other two have shown absolutely no signs at all that they will turn it around. Someone besides Cain, Yelich, and Grandal is going to have to hit.
One positive is that Jacob Barnes has really looked good lately.
Never heard that about Grandal but that could be a contributing factor. I just hate the way that our three young starters have looked so far. I keep blaming the new pitching coach but maybe Grandal is the problem.
I think we may have a pitching problem
Our lineup outside of guys like 3 people sucks too. We won a few games on the back of 330 ft Arcia home runs.
I don't think we're going anywhere this year
Spoke too soon
Derek Johnson was more important than originally expected.
No I pretty much knew he was damn good getting exceptional performances from scrubs like Miley. Never let a good employee out the door for a lateral move. Johnson should have been the pitching coach here until he landed a managing job which should happen next offseason if he continues to get the results he has gotten so far out of the Cincy staff.
The first months schedule has been brutal so we should be alright if we can end the month above .500. The bigger issues are the young pitching regressing so badly and Braun, Shaw, and especially Aguilar completely sucking. Stearns had a really poor offseason other than the Grandal signing but I expect him to bounce back too.
Now Albers is in. :bold strategy let's see how it works out:
Brewers: Keston Hiura, 2B (No. 1, MLB No. 19) -- 3-for-3, 2 HR (7), 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB (Triple-A San Antonio)
MLB Pipeline's top-ranked second baseman put on a show, hitting a solo homer and a two-run shot in consecutive at-bats to power the Missions past Oklahoma City, 4-3. It was the second career two-homer game for Hiura, who's now hitting .316/.346/.724 with seven homers, eight doubles and 16 RBIs after his perfect night at the plate.
The bullpen will get better once Jimmy Nelson returns to the rotation and we can put two of Burnes/Peralta/Woodruff in the pen. I really wanted to see them all stick in the rotation all year long but we can't throw away the season on the likes of Alex Wilson and AAAAron Wilkerson. Since I am known for my Brewers optimism I will say that I think this pitching staff will improve big time over the next few weeks.
We desperately need Hiura in this lineup relatively soon to balance the lineup. With a diminished Braun and Aguilar hitting worse than any of our pitchers the only reliable right handed bats we have are Grandal and Cain.
Jesus did something
No matter how you slice it, Burnes sucks
Sad to see
All I know is that this staff keeps giving up double digit runs while everytime I check Cincinatti is giving up 3 or less. We got cheap with Johnson or he didn't get along with Counsell but either way the season looks lost and its all because of the huge downgrade in pitching coaches.
As for Burnes I put this all on the pitching coach. This guy is way too talented to suck this much. We had a damn good thing going with Johnson and he should have been kept around until he landed a managing job which I expect him to get next offseason.
This feels too much like a Doug Melvin team and I hate watching it. Stearns needs to look in the mirror and take blame for the pitching situation which he created by letting Johnson go and hiring an idiot.
Going to be a long year
