    2. The Brewers have a real chance to be terrible.

I promise I believed this before they got destroyed by Colorado on Opening Day, and this isn’t a reaction to the beating they took yesterday. But among the 25 or so teams who are projected to at least be respectable in 2015, Milwaukee is the one that I think could just completely fall apart. As I mentioned in the division preview, this is a team with zero depth, so their 77 win projection is based on full seasons of their frontline players; that’s not a reasonable expectation, and the second-line players are almost uniformly awful.

The Brewers have no margin for error, especially in the rotation, where their options to replace a struggling or injured starter are all replacement level scrubs. With Kyle Lohse and Matt Garza on the wrong side of 30, and Mike Fiers and Jimmy Nelson on the wrong side of reliable, this is a rotation that seems likely to need multiple fill-ins throughout the year. But there just aren’t any real options, and if Lohse hits a wall — he’s 36 and playing the weak-contact game, which is a dangerous way to live — at the same time that Fiers’ arm starts barking again, they’re going to be in serious trouble.

The NL Central is not going to be an easy division this year, and unless their offense leads the league in runs scored, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Brewers won 67 games instead of 77.

Just fire Roenicke and Melvin and start the rebuild now.

Melvin has been the Brewers GM for more than a decade and the only good home grown starting pitchers have been Peralta and Gallardo. Every time I watch Sonny Gray pitch the more I want to choke Melvin.

The stadium is actually still under construction, but they are expected to have it done by the beginning of June. When it opens, I'll definitely try to make a few games. May try to make one of the games in Jackson in a few weeks too.

Roenicke is living on borrowed time at this point. It will be surprising if he lasts through April. Its way too early for me to root for losses but if this team is not going to be a legitimate contender I think its best for the roof to cave in early so the GM and manager can be replaced as soon as possible.

The last thing this team needs is for it to hang around the .500 level while having no real shot at the playoffs. This team has some decent trade bait like Gomez but ownership is too gutless to make a bold move like this unless its so obvious that the team sucks. I still cant believe that this team was mostly kept intact after that incredible choke job to end last season.

I think that they could have sold the fanbase on the fact that, look, the way this team is built right now that bad month is going to be there at some point. In 2013 it was early, in 2014 it was late. But it is always there.

You can always count on the Brewers pitching being terrible but this team can't hit either. The Brewers have scored more than 4 runs once and have 3 HRs in 9 games.

It was one thing when they struck out as much as they do when they were hitting home runs. That 3 hr's is a joke. They struck out 8 time to John F'ing Lackey.

This season can still be a success if:
    1. Roenicke and Melvin are axed
    2. Nelson pitches like he did last week
    3. Braun regains even 80% of his former self
    4. Peralta learns to miss bats
    5. The young players w/ upside in the minors keep progressing

The most crucial may be Peralta with his last start as an example. A bunch of weak contact with a bad defense behind him totally wastes his velocity.

Peralta really is a mystery to me. His average velocity is top 5 in baseball yet he doesn't strike anyone out. Still I really want this team to sign him long term.

This organization sucks from ownership on down to the players. This team is in this position because they had more than 5 consecutive awful drafts and an owner that feels a need to sign every middling free agent to keep the team around .500. The only true hope is that this team loses at least 90 games and a complete housecleaning is the end result.

I have a lot of concerns regarding Attanasio and who he would hire as the next GM. I could see him hiring Counsell who has no experience or some big name retread that wont be any better than Melvin. As much as I cant stand Roenicke the far bigger issues revolve around the GM and his loser front office assistants and a meddling owner that is obsessed with fighting for 80 wins. I think a new GM and manager is inevitable but I have little trust that Attanasio will hire the right people and let them do their jobs.

Lets discuss possible GM candidates. If we stay in house we better pick Ray Montgomery and not Craig Counsell. Montgomery seems to be pretty well regarded but I also think he is overrated; the Arizona minor league system was really not much better than average.

Off the top of my head other candidates I would look it include Jason McLeod of the Cubs who I don't think would even listen and Paul DePodesta of the Mets who has rebuilt that minor league system into one of the best in baseball. We should interview only candidates from top scouting organizations and Attanasio must stay out of personnel decisions.

We definitely need to trade Gomez once he is healthy and I think we should also move Lucroy who has the most trade value on this team and only has two years left on his contract after this year. It really makes no sense to sign him for big money into his mid to late thirties and catchers wear down earlier than other positions. This team is so far away from being good and we can get a lot for Lucroy.
