I would think 7 million would have done it but who knows. Its crazy that I would have been more than happy if we signed him months ago for 2/20.
Sounds like the Brewers are going to break camp with 4 starters and send Suter to the minors until he's needed, likely April 6th. This buys them time to decide what to do with Aguillar.
McCalvy also speculated the composition of the bullpen and has both Gallardo and Hoover in it with Taylor Williams being sent back to the minors. We aren't going with the best roster possible if Woodruff and Williams aren't part of the team. Wasting the first month of the season to come to the obvious realization that guys like Gallardo, Miley, and Hoover aren't major league pitchers may cost us a shot at the playoffs.
I wish we were stretching out Hader to start in June. He better be Andrew Miller to have given up on him as a starter without giving him a chance.
I don't hate Anderson, Davies, Chacin, Suter, Woodruff if that's what we rolled with until Nelson is back. I'm guessing we will be relying heavily on bullpen innings as it is.
They have to keep Woodruff over Miley. Hopefully they watched Miley closely today and realize thats what we would be seeing on a regular basis.
According to Streamer/Zips depth charts, every Brewer is going to be worse than last year. Players that broke out last year will regress (Shaw, Thames), players that regressed last year - the regression will persist (Villar), and a 22 year old former top prospect that cut down his k rate while maintaining the same bb rate and hitting 15 homeruns wont get any better.
I didn't need to read that but whatever. Hopefully Yelich and Cain will add a lot to the lineup and Derek Johnson can continue to do work with the pitching staff. If Nelson is ready by June or so and Burnes comes up by then we can be good. I expect nothing from Thames and I also question Shaw but I am hopeful. The season is about a week away and I can't wait. No doubt we have weaknesses but we also have a chance to be pretty good.
The Brewers are expected to be in on a lot of the top international prospects. The scouting department has done a much better job since Stearns has been hired so this is good news.
I don't think Thames is going to have a month where he is Barry Bonds but I don't think it is impossible for him to repeat his season long stats.
I hope you are right but is he even going to play much with Santana still around and Braun expected to play a lot at first.
Phillips, Broxton, and Guerra are all starting the season in the minors so Woodruff is the 5th starter which I like a lot. I think there are two bullpen slots yet to be decided between Taylor Williams, JJ Hoover, and that scrub Drake who I hope we let go.
We are going to be good so stop being negative. If I of all people can have a positive attitude about this team I expect the same from you and IanC.
Arcias play from last night was a good one https://mediadownloads.mlb.com/mlbam/mp4/2018/04/02/1903403883/1522697259378/asset_2500K.mp4
The rotation has been terrible so far other than the first game of the season. I am trying to be optimistic that Stearns knew what he was doing only adding Chacin but yikes so far.
This doesn't work if Braun is going to suck in the 3 spot. Christ the Card left a lefty in against him just now.
Cain and Yelich at the top of the lineup is so money. If they decided tomorrow (they wont) to give Hader a shot in the rotation how would that work? Just let him start going 3-4 innings and build up? Or given 5 days rest would he be good to go? He threw about 100 innings last year combined so he would only be able to go 130-140 probably. Maybe around June if the other starters aren't getting the job done they could move him and he'd be able to pitch the rest of the season on a reasonable amount of innings. Even if they let him just start games and get through 3 or 4 innings and piggyback Suter. Their contrast in stuff could really mess with teams.
They would probably send him to AAA to get him stretched out but like you said its not going to happen. We probably just have to get by until Nelson is ready and Burnes shows he is MLB ready. Hopefully by June we have Nelson and Burnes in the rotation.
Hiura is having elbow problems again and is going to be DH'ing a lot at the start of the season. He probably should just have elbow surgery already so this doesn't linger for years. He can really hit but he does nothing for us if he can't play second base. He probably should have had the elbow surgery after we signed him last season. We have done a poor job in the past of handling injuries so we need to do the right thing with this guy who is a potential future batting champ. Get him right so he can be in Milwaukee by some time next season.
