I completely agree but there was a direct quote from Stearns recently where he said if we trade for a pitcher its going to be a top of the rotation guy. My opinion is that we need an elite bat even more than a top starter and Hiura is that bat.
No baserunners through three innings and Peralta getting roughed up. Sorry but this team is way more than one pitcher away. This offense is complete trash.
Well yeah, why would they trade for a 3/4/5, they have like 8 of those. Stearns has had a lot of opportunities to push his chips in and hasn't. Only thing close is Yelich, where he pretty much gave up Diaz to lock in a player that was the max player Brinson was ever going to be.
That trade made a lot more sense than any deal for a pitcher. Yelich was signed for 5 years and there was not nearly the injury risk that there is with a pitcher. We also knew that Hiura was a better prospect than Diaz and that CF was covered with Cain.
Arcia got sent back down to AAA. I would be surprised if he was back before September unless we lose multiple middle infielders. Hopefully someone works with him because he was more than passable offensively last year and the defense is still elite.
If this team continues to suck I don't think we will have to worry about emptying the farm for a pitcher.
We have been bad for awhile now and this offense is never going to be good. You should also know by now what my reactions will be when we lose.
Hell, they let Chacin hit for himself this weekend when he was for sure done pitching and let Arcia pinch run after Chacin got a hit.
He was struggling all night and you could tell it was time for the hook. Suter has done about as good a job as possible for us but he is just not very talented and when he is struggling he needs to be pulled.
Again it would be nice if this offense could ever win a game for us. It shouldn't be all that difficult to score 6 runs in a game against this pitching staff.
Sounds like itsi up in the air whether or not Turang signs. We have like 700k over slot to offer him. Also signed 3 top 30 international guys which I have no opinion on but the volume is good. Well seser in about 5 years if any of them are worth a damn.
The Brewers get no blame if Turang doesn't sign. If he is dumb enough to turn down that much money good riddance. Hopefully some of these international guys pan out. Stearns has done a much better job than the previous GM in getting better prospects. A couple of our previous signings are looking real good in the Dominican Summer League.
Sooo... Apparently Shaw has been practicing at second according to Rosenthal? Ideas put forth is either trade for Moustakas or Aguilar could play some third opening up space for Braun and Thames to get in the lineup at the same time as Aguilar. I don't hate the latter if Jesus isn't awful on defense. We shift so much 2b range isn't a huge concern as long as you don't just kick it around the infield.
A lineup with Yelich, Cain, Braun, Shaw, Aguilar, Thames, is a good lineup regardless of what you put at SS and C. (Shaw and Braun have been sucking lately but hopefully they pick it up. If they don't we are toast anyways)
I don't need to see Aguilar at third to know that he can't play the position. We have so many issues with this lineup that I think we are toast unless we pick up at least two position players. Miller is beyond terrible at short and Thames is a disaster in the outfield.
Braun is the second best Brewers player in the history of the franchise behind only Yount and I love everything that he has meant to the organization. With that said I believe his days of being a productive every day player are over. I am not sure if its entirely due to age or if its his chronic thumb injury but either way he is a 4th or 5th outfielder at this point. As for Shaw he has been terrible for over a month and its time to be concerned. This lineup even with Yelich and Cain is not nearly good enough. A great bullpen can only take you so far.
If this team didn't have Derek Johnson I am not sure if we would be above .500. I also have no idea how Darnell Coles is still employed. Its good that we won today but another 16 strikeouts against that pitching staff. What a joke. Stearns needs to improve this lineup but he needs to acquire cheap rentals to do it.
Broxton has earned his roster spot for the rest of the season even if he doesn't hit much. His defense is absolutely spectacular and he won us the game today by robbing a home run.

Is that video showing up for you? It was a highlight video of Broxton over the last week on defense from ESPN.
Does anyone at the MLB Network actually watch the Brewers play because they all try to come off as experts about the team without having any clue at all about the team. I put on High Heat today and Scott Braun was subbing for the Mad Dog and he was going on and on about how good our lineup is and how we need pitching. I realize I shouldn't be wasting time watching that nonsense but pretty much every time I watch and they mention the Brewers they talk about how good our lineup is. John Smoltz is especially clueless about the Brewers yet everytime I see him talking about them he acts like he watches the team all the time. The national media continues to treat the Brewers and other small market teams as farm systems for the yankees and Red Sox but the MLB Network is supposed to cater to fans of all teams.
The Brewers literally have like 8-10 legitimate bullpen options between AAA and AA. There was never a reason to have Zagurski on the team.
The Zagurski era or should I say error is over. Braun and Pina to the DL, Wilkerson back to AAA, Nottingham called up and Orf is back. Hopefully Nottingham plays a lot and does well.
