I'm sure every GM has mixed emotions when finalizing a trade with the DBacks. On the one hand they are thrilled because they just stole assets from them, on the other had they wonder what more could they have gotten had they thought bigger.
Guys enjoy the final month of this season because its probably the last time you will get to see Ryan Braun in a Brewers uniform.
Thank you for letting the Brewers fans know about this. I wouldn't know what to do without this information.
Counsell is really doing a great job playing Nieuwenhuis every day while a young outfielder like Santana or Broxton sits.
He has been playing every game against RHP regardless of the opponent while a young outfielder sits. A rebuilding team has no business playing a journeyman outfielder everyday.
12 runs against the Cardinals with the bulk of the production coming from Broxton, Perez, Arcia, and Maldonado
Also, one thing that I heard about the motivation for calling up Arcia was for whatever reason he needed a change of scenery from Colorado Springs. Was just in a rut out there. Dont know if he thought he should have been in the bigs to start 2016 and that impacted his attitude or what. Lastly, since I cant think of anything better at the moment I will just leave thread title as is until we get to page 29 past the random Jack Parkman Marlins tweet.
I don't like ruining our draft position with these meaningless wins but its what we seem to do most years.
Perez has absolutely earned the third base position for next year. He is also much better defensively than Villar so the odd man out has to be Gennett unless we get a huge offer for Villar which is possible.
So we almost traded Braun to the Dodgers for Puig, McCarthy(way to give the Dodgers money without giving them actual cash) and two minor leaguers who I would guess would not be legitimate prospects. Am I the only one that thinks this would be insane. I hate it but Braun will be a Dodger in 2017 and we are taking back garbage to make it happen.
Erceg had a good summer in the minors. How big of a knucklehead are we talking about here? http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/sunday-notes-brewers-erceg-franconas-computer-lamb-power-more/
Well this sucks. Chance to get the AAA team out of Colorado Springs put on hold. Brewers should build a stadium in Madison and own their won AAA affiliate. Maybe UW could bring back their baseball team. http://www.brewcrewball.com/2016/9/...an-antonio-colorado-springs-milwaukee-brewers
They put Gord Ash in charge of getting us out of Colorado Springs. In other words we are going to be stuck there for a long time. We have to keep our best prospects in AA especially our pitchers.
I did like ruining the buzz around town yesterday of all the people that had tickets to see them clinch last night. Unfortunately Maddon is trotting out the b team today.
I like that they couldn't celebrate with a win over us but I would like to lose most of the remaining games. We once had a chance to draft as high as 3 and now it looks like 10 or so. Shows you just how many awful teams there are this year.
I think September 25 is the last home game so I hope the fans give Ryan Braun the standing ovation that he deserves. It will be a sad day watching him in another uniform.
It's going to be tough to lose to this lineup unfortunately. And Lacky probably drank 30 Budweiser last night.
Future lineup/staff C: Susac 1B: Braun 2b: Diaz SS: Arcia 3B: Erceg LF: Ray/Phillips/Clark (add in to Broxton's spot and two of the four will pan out) CF: Broxton RF: Brinson Util: Perez Util: Villar SP: Hader SP: Davies SP: Ortiz SP: Guerra SP: Ponce/Lopez/Diplan/Medieros BP: Bickford BP: Thornburg BP: Some of that last SP spot This would cost very little money into the 2020's that if enough of these guys pan out they should be able to spend to make a damn good team. That doesn't even include guys like Lara, the OF's in the second half of their top 30, or the McClanahan kid they got in the 11th round for second round money. Dont know how soon this would be a viable lineup. Some of these guys are in low A so that's a few years away.
Its crazy to think just how many legitimate prospects we really have at this point. I am hoping that Nottingham is eventually the catcher and Brinson would almost certainly be the CF in any configuration with his defense being far better than anyone else in the organization. Its too early to completely count out Medeiros but I read that he was throwing in the mid 80s late in the year; I see his upside as a situational bullpen lefty.
Brandon Woodruff is a guy that will be in our rotation by the middle of next year. He isn't a big name but he has arguably the best stuff in our system with a high 90s fastball. Hader has more upside and his being a lefty is a huge advantage but Woodruff may be our most underrated prospect. I really like that we have excellent prospects at all levels and aren't dependent on one or two guys to make it. My timeline would be .500 or so by 2018 and contention the following year but if things break right we may be a wild card contender by 2018. All in all the rebuild is going very smoothly.
Yeah I didn't put a ton of thought into who went where in the outfield other than that Brinson would be one of them. Broxton is probably a CF or not a starter so I went with that. Brinson's bat could play at a corner. I see that Woodruff was on the leader-board for the Fangraphs fringe five prospects thing they've been doing.
Its funny but we have so many good prospects that I forget about a lot of them. Broxton is intriguing with his power and speed but he is already 27 so I don't know what his future is with this team. Stearns absolutely stole him from Pittsburgh and we also got a young pitcher Trey Supak in the deal for Jason Rogers who is a AAAA player.
I pretty much like every deal that Stearns has made. You can argue that we didn't get enough for Khris Davis but he is a one trick pony and Nottingham can still develop. The Segura trade was good for Arizona in 2016 but Isan Diaz has a chance to be a star so I think we will end up winning that deal easily.
The Brewers 20-30 ranked prospects are better than our top 10 of two or three years ago. That shows how deep our system is now and how bad it was a few years ago.
So we lost our high A affiliate in the FSL that was in Brevard County and is now moving to Kissimmee. Again I blame Doug Melvin for making this organization so undesirable for minor league affiliates and Stearns needs to can Ash who was given the job of handling our minor league locations. I expect Stearns to get rid of a bunch of minor league coaches and scouts. He has how had a full season to see what he is dealing with and I hope we have a lot of change in the minors. Its really hard to blame the FSL ownership for wanting to dump us when the team was approximately 40 games below .500 plus they signed up with Atlanta which makes sense for them geographically.
I think Broxton broke his wrist running into the wall. Also Braun and Arcia both hit long HRs. I know I sound like a broken record but Braun needs to be a Brewer for life.
What if Braun on the Dodgers was simply to help stop the Cubs? If it guaranteed it prevented a Cubs WS it might be worth it.
Honestly though, he would fit in well in that lineup and it would make sense for them to give up top prospects for him. Lefty pitching is their kryptonite. The are fucked if the Cubs pitch Lester against them twice.
For the Dodgers the trade makes all the sense in the world. They get one of the best hitters in baseball while getting rid of Puig who everyone hates and isn't half the player Braun is. The Dodgers also get rid of the Mccarthy contract and give us one or two mediocre prospects while adding less than 10 million to their payroll. I am still waiting to hear the any reason why this trade would make sense for the Brewers. We barely save any money and really don't need to anyway and we aren't getting any elite prospects back. If the Dodgers want Braun they can give us Urias; there isn't a chance that they would and there is no reason why we should accept less.
Minor league affiliate situation could go from bad to worse http://www.brewcrewball.com/2016/9/...-be-heading-to-lancaster-california-in-high-a Attanasio needs to step up and buy the Carolina team. He bought the franchise for what 400 and it's probably wor the about a billion now?
Davies 2.8 Guerra 2.5 Broxton 1.8 All rookies in partial seasons pretty high up on fwar leaderboard for rookies
MLB Pipeline– @MLBPipeline #Astros' Joe Musgrove graduates from @MLB's Top 100 Prospects list; #Brewers' Isan Diaz enters: http://atmlb.com/1QbbygO
Attanasio has never been a big picture guy so I don't see him buying a minor league team. Meanwhile our prospects will suffer playing in Lancaster and Colorado Springs. Gord Ash was given one job and that was to figure out this mess and he screwed up big time. Remember this owner wouldn't spend the money on Carlos Rodon in the draft but happily gave Kyle Lohse 30 million to suck. I am honestly surprised that he has allowed Stearns to do a real rebuild but I bet he pushes him to give away prospects at the first sign that we are competitive.
