I honestly have no idea where you go for hardcore shit, if there ever was a place. Triple Rock used to be a hoot
I will be in your city briefly to rent a car and then drive to Duluth. What’s good for lunch between MSP and that direction?
Just grab a snack for the road and eat at Duluth Grill imo. Great resternt though it's in a weird spot
My 10 yo and I joined a group ride featuring a live DJ with Team Ilhan at Perennial Cycles tonight. Rode to Sabo bridge on the greenway and got to meet Rep Omar and her dog at MIA. Really memorable night for my kid and me. She was probably most excited about the dog.
This is my second time up there, saw the same client two years ago. It’s amazing this time of year, lovely town
Kid is obsessed with Snake Discovery. Looking at flying up next month to surprise her for her birthday. Zoo is in St Paul off 120. Should we stay close to there or stay downtown Minny? If anyone knows anyone at Snake Discovery, I'll pay well for a meet and greet with Emily. Literally flying up just to meet her. They do a meet and greet on Saturdays but would love something private where kid could chill with her on a tour or something.
Mostly matters what else you want to do while here. Vikings game, Mall of America, Walker art center, etc.
Haven't gotten that far. Looking at flying up late Thursday. Friday they offer private programs, so we'll do that. But I don't think Emily is the one that does that program, so we'd have to go back on Saturday after some point from 1-4. So we'll be at the zoo both days, that's why I was thinking of staying out there.
after a couple of months of field research I’m unable to conclusively determine political affiliation but there is a strong correlation to driving like a complete dickbag
Speaking of driving like shit bags, is it just me or are people terrible at roundabouts? It’s like people don’t know how to execute a yield. And don’t get me started on the assholes that stop in the roundabout to let somebody else go.
My general experience is that people who specifically opt for the special edition blackout version of a product are assholes with 90% reliability
https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/minneapolis-neighbor-shoots-man/ Chief had a press conference () where he said: -couldn't have known this mentally ill guy was going to be violent even after a year of threatening this guy (and, according to nextdoor at least, actually being violent towards others in other incidents) -wasn't going to send an officer in the shooter's house to execute the arrest warrant because if they fucked it up, they'd be prosecuted -blamed Frey and the media for fostering the rhetoric that made it impossible for police to do their job -they were trying to arrest him by waiting outside the house when the victim said he had been outside, and then blamed the victim (still in the hospital) for not calling them outside those hours when the shooter went outside -said it was miraculous police work to figure out the guy with a bullet in him had been shot because there were no witnesses probably missing a few things - I'm definitely not capturing how much it came off as victim-blaming - but it was pretty absurd
our police here are insanely bad and largely stopped doing their jobs after they murdered George Floyd. was a big investigative journalism piece on it.
they also love complaining about how hard their jobs are while 80% of them pass the time away on their phones
I saw Atmosphere on Friday snd they put on a great show. Because they’re from Minneapolis I felt you all needed to know.
It's really amazing how inattentive and slow to react they are considering their massive increases in pay
On another minneapolitan note: This has been a spectacular year for goofing off on the chain of lakes on foot, bicycle, skates, etc. I've been loving it
Movin back into the city this Spring, thank fuck. Anybody know nothin bout those elementary schools around Lake Harriet area? SLP? Any worth a shit out Golden Valley way?
Looked at Lindgren Elementary in SLP and it seemed good but the middle/high schools seemed to have a pretty decent drop off
Hey Minnesota #Minnesota Golden Gophers #Minnesota Timberwolves #Minnesota Twins folks, saw the Minneapolis recommendations. Have a day there, alot to choose Kind of last minute, headed out to the Sax-Zim bog. Has anyone been there? Do I needed to rent a four wheel drive around there/snow tires/chains? Looks like it’s pretty flat. Assuming there won’t be cell reception? Never been up there ever. Would it be better to stay in Duluth or Hibbings? Anything good in Duluth or Hibbings? Lots of question marks in this post. This is a wild stretch, but worth a shot. Anyone know a naturalists/birder up there? Looking for owls with the 20 year irruption.
I’d contact the welcome center and ask about naturalist tours/recs. Or call around Virginia and ask with outdoor/fishing shops up there. Stay in Duluth. Cell reception will probably be spotty off HW 52, you won’t need chains. Don’t underdress if you’re coming up soon, it’s absolutely frigid right now and next week is going to be brutal.
Washburn ranks highest in MPLS just south of Kent’s place in Kingfield. Not Harriet but Harriet-ish/Tangletown
id never heard of that place until I just read an article about it in the star tribune recently. Have a great time. Birders love it apparently and it’s unique geologically
Yeah I'm lookin p hard at Ol kent's neighborhood, tangletown, SW, armatage. Like ya said, anything that pops for sale down there sure vanishes in a hurry.
We got this place after a long search and are very pleased with the Barton Elem/Justice Page Middle/Washburn track. Randy Dangus I'm not sure if you have kids but if you're looking at schools longterm, keep in mind that MPS doesn't bus high schoolers. Some of the district maps are really weird. We saw places over Nokomis way that filtered to Washburn HS but would take two city buses. So we felt lucky that we're about a mile north of the Page/Washburn complex so our kid will be able to walk/bike pretty easily.
Thanks for the input Randy Dangus and Kent Pavelka. Yes I talked to those folks up at the nature center, thanks I am staying in Duluth Heights. Newsflash, the northern part of your state is very cold. All the cold. Like all the cold. I would like to mention at this point that I was very cold. Thanks, and bless up those folks, nice people. edit* no owls
