In Minny now.. Downtown going harder in the paint than expected. Parts look pretty ragged.

Yeah, coming into town my wife wanted to go to walgreens and we were staying in a nicer area near downtown and it sent us down 1st Ave for quite aways. The area near the police station where everything had graffiti and was run down or closed looked like somewhere definitely didn't want to be after dark.

    Back home now..

    Thoughts:
    *Jealous of the light rail
*Drought must be bad when Minnesota's lakes/rivers are low
    * Somolian food is good shit
*Seeing BLM signs > Maga bs
    * Nice having a car to get away to places like Stillwater & Lake of the Isles park area.

Hit up Brits, Sea Salt, Kramarczuk Deli, Modist Brewing Co, Baarakallah Somolian Restaurant, was lazy got Black Sheep pizza (Not bad), Matt's Bar, Broders Pasta Bar, Quangs Vietnamese

Brits is a super cool spot/concept, but is dead when there's not a game on. Food, beer, staff seem meh. Maybe we went too late on a Thursday. (Shrugs)

Sea Salt has awesome crispy fried fish, respectable beer list and nice wrap around patio with tables. It's @ the park so glad went during the week bc bet it's swamped on wknds.

Kram is a pretty solid polish/ukranian deli if looking for kielbasa & pirogi's for lunch north of the river.

Modist was best beer I had when was in town. Had 2-3 different ones between wife and I and all were pretty legit. Big fan of cold presse coffee lager. The berliner seemed a bit sweet/syrupy but wasn't bad. Forgot what IPA had but wasn't mad at it.

The hole in the wall Somolian place had a lot of character, nice staff. I ordered sweet beef with jabaddi bread and got some hot ginger tea . They gave me some of their hotter sauce and was sweating just the right amount. Everything was seasoned really well. One of cheaper meals on trip, maybe my favorite. Enjoy places where get to experience a different culture and community.

Black sheep and Quangs were fine but nothing to write home about. They were fairly close to where stayed and quick take out. I could find them in KC.

Hit up Matt's when went to St Pauls Cathederal and out to Stillwater.
It's a neat little neighborhood joint that would never have gone to not for juicy lucy. They have awesome burgers with a criminal amount of melted cheese :)

Broder's bar has a small dining space outside in a parking lot across the street from the original bigger restaurant. Weather was nice, but not a romantic setting. Italian food was better than expected. Not quite Chicago at it's best, but way better than most places for damn sure. Recommend walking around the nearby lakes with the super swank houses. It's a pretty area in the evening.

I used to live a block from Kramarczuks. I’m in the vicinity of Broders now. Nice choices.

Was the Broders you went to on the NW side of the corner with a grocery, pizza by the slice, etc? It’s much more grab & go. The main restaurant is nicer than that. Not fine dining but good and generally nice.

The south location I think. It's across the street from their bigger more permanent building. Looks nice enough that way but if facing the street you see a "Speedway Gas Station" billboard. I asked for a patio reservation. Didn't know there was a difference

That is actually the better location. The one across the street to the north is more of a to-go market. I think the patio at the Pasta Bar was a COVID creation. Terzo which is across the street on the SE corner is probably my favorite of the 3. It’s more Porchetta but a bowl with that and polenta is amazing.

It is definitely missing the crowd that would have been there on a Thursday night pre-COVID. It was very busy Th-Sat nights even without a draw other than bar patio in nice weather. On Fri-Sat the 3rd level would have been packed with people

Target and several other large headquarters are still remote which is killing that part of downtown.

I feel like it is still most. My elevator bank has 3 primary employers and all 3 are remote for 90%+ of their employees. My brother-in-law is in the IDS and they are too. Of my friends that work downtown, I only know one going in to the office.

The sun will start at about the RF foul pole and move to home through the game. The best area for shade is on the first base side and toward the top of the lower deck (104-115), Champions Club (also has AC inside), 205-216 (avoid the front row or two) and 1b side of upper deck which is covered by an awning.

I think the Twins website will show you sun/shadow by hour. I haven’t looked in a long time but it had it at one point.

Going to Minneapolis with 12 guys this weekend for the Chiefs game.

    Recommendations for:
    - sports bar within walking distance of the stadium sunday?
    - bars in the Northeast? Its where our AirBnb - sports bar or dive bars go over well with this crowd
    - any restaurants that are casual but could handle 12 guys. thing fancy since we'll be having drinks and being loud.

Its a 40th birthday trip...so like rowdy, suburban dad but who still likes to have a heater outside of a dive bar at 1am vibes.

Earl Giles and Tattersall for cocktails and Indeed for beers are all down the street are good to go. Not dives or sports bars but enjoyable nonetheless. Centro tacos are p good and is right there too. You’re off Central, so lots of good food options.

1029 Bar is divey and has really good food. Uncle Franky’s is close and a decent gut-bomb. 331 is a decent dive, may have live music if that’s your thing. Mayslacks is a good dive with really good roast beast sandos. You’re in a great area for food and booze

I think Tony Jaros is a must for dive bars. It’s on the party bus route so it’s entertaining. Stanley’s Northeast is a divey sports bar (and I named my old dog Stanley after the bar). There are breweries near Central (Bauhaus, Indeed, etc).

I’m not even sure for sports bars by the stadium, because I haven’t spent much time over there since the new stadium was built and stuff turned over. Maybe crooked pint. It’s fine. I would try to get pizza and empanadas at Boludo.
