I fucking love this series. 4&5 are flat out fantastic action adventure movies. The burj Khalifa scene was so intense the first time. You knew he would make it but damn it was scary
Just got out. Awesome movie.the secondary antagonist The white widow was great, would love to see more of her in later movies. It also ties up the loose ends about Ethan’s wife from M:I3
A lot of fun. This review sums up the movie Spoiler If a scene calls for people to parachute onto a building from 30,000 feet, why not throw in a lightning storm?
That was awesome. Tom Cruise is probably going to die filming one of these some day and I respect his dedication.
Not at all; it's a movie that makes the recent fast and furious movies seem realistic yet still enjoyable.
So the bad guy is the dumbass, cunt mapping expert in Prometheus who died because he got fucking lost and whose only noteworthy acting ability comes from his desire to constantly speak through his nasal cavity. I've got nothing to add about the movie discussion other than I just fucking hate that guy.
saw it, liked it pretty well, but thought the last two were better. every twist was choreographed (who would have even thought about the asian dude in the bathroom being a decoy? and you know cruise isn't guilty...) and the mask double is easy to guess because they've been doing it for six movies now. but the action scenes were pretty good. i thought rogue nation was my favorite of the movies because of the mix of characters/twists, plot, and action set pieces. i think this one may have been hindered in my eyes because it's the same characters. some of the best scenes involved the newest ones (namely the white widow).
He did all the stunts in this movie. He did over 100 high altitudes sky dives to get that scene shot and broke his ankle in the scene where he did the long jump between buildings. Dude is crazy.
Loved it. All the action scenes were incredible. A couple of the twists were predictable, but that didn’t make the story less fun.
This doesn't usually happen to me, but fuck, that Wolf Blitzer triple nuke fake news story at the beginning got me. It felt a little too real.
Semi spoilers - overall enjoyable flick, but enjoyed rogue nation more - casting is Cavills character could’ve been better. He’s pretty flat and I could only picture him in Man from UNCLE during it. Essentially the same guy - sitting there and called the wolf blitzed reveal, look at me. Some things were pretty obvious and unsurprising - there was almost too much action at the end to the point where they just made things too ridiculous
Just saw it. Was really good. Only complaint I have is the Fast and Furious-ness of the ending, although it's M:I so you expect some of that going in. Team Ilsa, as well. Glad they didn't have her do stupid shit in this one for twist purposes.
Thought it wasn't as good as 4 and 5 but it was on the same level. The one gripe I had was Angela Bassett's character seemingly becoming the new IMF chief. She literally helped get the former IMF chief killed.
Her character did just about everything possible to murder the IMF in this movie, and then she's some kind of hero at the end? That annoyed me.
Payload drop should’ve brought the chopper and they could’ve fought from there. Everything else felt too absurd, which says a lot.
This complaint aside, an incredible film. The lengths Cruise goes to entertain are unrivaled in today's Hollywood. I'd be in for Ilsya becoming part of the IMF team, it did feel like they needed a fourth to add to Ethan, Benji, and Luther. Also wish we'd gotten more Jeremy Renner or at least an explanation for why he wasn't there.
I'm not sure if I'm up for this love angle with Ilsa/Ethan moving forward, but it's pretty clear that's where they're heading. I just enjoy the way they've written that character as Ethan's equal the last two films.
The motorcycle and skydiving scenes were fast and furious level, was just laughing through the helicopters scene.
I can deal with the first few being unrealistic and long. The helicopter scene was akin to the FF scene where the plane was on what had to be a 40 mile runway to make it work. The helicopter scene would have taken a minimum of 2 hours in real life while on a timer of under 15 minutes, and also made no sense whatsoever.
Didn’t read every post here, but did everyone else notice the White widows mothers name is Max? That’s the broker from MI 1.
I agree with pretty much everyone. It was good, but the ridiculousness of the helicopter scene honestly took me out of the movie. I probably said, “Seriously?” to myself at least six times during that sequence alone. And that’s a concervative number.
It was amazing. I mean if you suspend disbelief at both Ethan and Ilsa both being in normally horrifically fatal motorcycle crashes and walking away with mere limps, anything else is fair game.
The chopper scene would have been kind of cool if the payload drops on the other chopper, and then they have one last fight before Ethan gets the trigger thing. It would have been kind of ridiculous, but more reasonable than what they did. I feel bad that I'm talking shit about a movie I loved, too. I really liked the stuff in the village with Benji/Ilsa/Luther/ex-wife that was going on at the same time. I'm going to focus on that instead.
Helicopter ending shenanigans aside Fantastic movie series Cruise is a beast Awesome, action packed movie Right beside 3 for me
I saw this again yesterday. I'm so confused by the CIA/White Widow connection, as well as the John Lark/plutonium stuff.
saw it this morning, loved it. Final scene was a bit over the top, but unfortunately doesn't bother me much anymore because I just expect it nowadays. Overall was really entertaining and the action was on point. Once the first action scene started it felt like 2 hours of non-stop.
Mentioned this earlier, but white widows mother is “Max”. Max was the broker used for the noc list in MI 1. At the end of MI 1 the CIA and Max say they can probably figure out something they can do to avoid jail for her. My guess is white widow kept up the family business.
I have a feeling the Max stuff will play a major role in the next installment. Too big of a clue to drop and nothing come of it. Love Tom Cruise in these movies, basically the only must see series for me nowadays. Love how Tom does all the stunts, adds a reality to it that makes it so much more interesting. Love the mask reveals even if they are pretty easy to spot now. Love Tom running everywhere. The helicopter scene went too long but thought it was the best scene for Cavill with him unleashing the big gun and basically being like how the F do I get rid of this guy. If Kashmir really looks like that, I need to win a lottery so I can take an extended helicopter tour - I’ve never seen a place look so immense on camera.
I get that, but the CIA wants the plutonium back. White Widow knows the person with the plutonium, and will help them sell it to the highest bidder if Lark doesn't show up. Yet White Widow is working for the CIA before/during/after everything that happens? Also, the Apostles are the group that takes the plutonium from Ethan at the beginning. If John Lark is basically the leader of the Apostles, why would Lark need to acquire the plutonium through the White Widow? Doesn't his group already have it? Maybe I'm just an idiot who missed some stuff, but as I watched it the second time that stuff confused me.
they were using the plutonium as a bargaining piece to get Ethan to free Lane, who is their ultimate leader. They were essentially planning on having both, trading the plutonium from the Apostles into Lark's hands, free Lane, then Lark and Lane do the end game at the health camp. Lane wanted Hunt involved. I don't really know what to make of the White Widow stuff yet, but I assume she's working with them behind the scenes. If she just gave up the plutonium to them directly, it would blow her cover, so she does it via accepting Ethan as Lark even though she knows he isn't? It's hard to imagine a more dire situation to justify blowing her cover than 3 nukes being in the wild, but maybe they wanted to still have that connection in the world in the potential aftermath.
Great movie just like that last couple have been. Really other then 2 this entire series has been nothing but great movies. Cruise is absolutely crazy doing all his stunts in these movies and I love it.
I get why Lark/Lane wanted what they did. I guess my point is I'm not sure why Ethan didn't see that going in.
yeah, it's hard to know what Ethan knew or suspected. They do that with these movies. He often seems to magically know the plot without evidence necessarily showing up on screen in these movies. I would expect he'd be suspicious of Lark from the beginning and he likely was. They obviously were at some point since they did the Lane impersonation scene to get him to reveal himself. How he factored that into the plutonium stuff I don't know.
