Sloppy in the final 1/3 on both sides. First time in the last few months getting outplayed. Both teams been playing a lot, but Timbers look more gassed. Credit to Atlanta.
It sounds like the whole Army refused to spend any money in stadium on concessions/merch. I wonder how big of a loss that was?
REMINDER: Sporting gave a pretty decent La Liga CB $1 million a year (who no longer makes the 18s) and that ticked Ike off and forced the trade. I doubt Sporting could use Ike anyways....wouldn’t have helped at all.....where did I put my bleach....
Oh didn’t you hear Twellman? They’re going to have the fan support of the Timbers with the success of LAFC guaranteed. Don’t mind the fact the Timbers sold out 16K+ basically every game as a USL side and FCSTL averages 4K.
I know this is your KCness taking over, but STLFC plays in a terrible location and on a field that holds high school games. Youth soccer is gigantic in STL and people have been chomping at the bit for a new team ever since the NFL screwed us.
Ehhh. What do we call Atl-Orl? Can’t be a rivalry when one side crushes the other every time on the pitch. I think the more interesting question will be, does that “team” last more than 3 years?
Atl-Orl is a contrived rivalry based solely on geography. Oro-Mia should be a natural rivalry. Our true rivals I feel like are NYCFC or NYRB even though the latter has been fairly one sided outside of the playoffs.
I’d be willing to bet if you asked anyone on the team they’d all say user DirtBall is their true rival.
Could you imagine letting the extra time radio guys get so far in your head that you crawl back to them groveling? SAD!
Speaking of rivalries. I’m very impressed ESPN chose the most HEATED and HATE filled rivalry in all of the MLS to kick off Heineken rivalry week presented by continental tires:
I’ve tried to get into MLS but I just can’t. Been to a handful of Fire matches. Just kinda meh. Glad StL got a team, but if I couldnt get myself to care about the Fire, I doubt i will about the STL team. Only caveat is if they can get the greatest man, and footballer of our time, Steven Naismith.
I would not use that as your frame of reference. The Fire are one of the worst run teams, and they have one of the worst stadium situations. Which is why theyre moving to Soldier (and tried other locations). By all accounts the STL group has their shit together, is going to put the stadium downtown. As long as they prove to be ambitious investors in players, Id give them a chance. MLS is transitioning from a league of meh players and old vets to a league where theyre developing young talent and flipping them to Europe. This offseason a new CBA should see more money being spent on players.
saw some video on Detroit's super serious over the top supporter section a while back, the title was something along the lines of "The Supporters MLS is afraid of," shit was cringe as hell
My suggested name for St Louis's new team was STL Benfica so they could be rivals with Sporting KC. That or Schlafly FC lol
It is crazy to watch a match at Houston without getting blinded by the ugly ass orange seats all match long.
I was going to suggest St. Louis United, but there's already a SLU soccer team. (St Louis University) Plus there's already like 3-4 Uniteds.
Gotta think DonG pulls some fuckery to make sure LA gets into the final. They want the MLS-MX matchup.
