In the CCL Era RSL remains to be the only American MLS team to get close to being CONCACAF Champions (2-3 agg versus Monterrey in the Finals, 2010-11 ).
Why is it pointless? The subset includes all but 3 MLS teams. They are the only ones who interest me in CCL. I couldn’t care less about the Canadian teams in CCL.
CONCACAF is all about nationalism. For me that extends largely, but not completely, to CCL. The caveat here is there are certain American teams I will never root for in CCL. Just a personal perspective. I do the same with UEFA CL. If FC Porto isn’t alive, I’ll pull for a team from the nation I like best...unless it’s Benfica. Fuck Benfica.
TFC had plenty of Americans on that team. I’ll root for them in the CCL because of that and their owners are one of the few pushing the league forward.
Conversation with Pomykal is getting close to he should be at the Gold Cup instead of the U20 WC. My guess is he still goes to the U20 WC and Berhalter brings him for Nations League.
He needs to stay with the U20s where he’ll see full matches. I want those kids to gel and succeed as they move up the ranks.
