Moana vs Encanto

Moana is a better story…Encanto has better songs. LMM counting paper off both though

 

We Don’t talk about Bruno the biggest Disney thing ever it seems.

My son is about to turn 3 and is absolutely obsessed with Moana. We’ve watched it 3 times over the last 4 days. He convinced his daycare class to name their new pet fish Hei Hei. It won out over “cocomelon”

The “we were voyagers” boat song with the drums is an absolute banger

My answer is Moana. My kids aged 4 and 1 would pick Encanto

Team Moana. Also, if you like rock songs No Resolve did a rock cover of How Far I’ll go that’s pretty good.

 

I get liking the story in Moana better but the songs in Encanto might be the best Disney has ever done.

 

Encanto was enjoyable but I don’t think it’s on the same level as Moana. Coco > Encanto

 

Wife's family has Hawaiian/Pacific Island roots, so it's going to be Moana for me.

I’ll get roasted for this but not a huge Coco fan. I can appreciate it but it’s not high on the rewatchability scale for me.

 

I’ve had a steady rotation of Encanto songs stuck in my head for about three weeks straight. Family Madrigal -> Bruno -> Surface Pressure -> What Else Can I Do. Rinse and Repeat

Times, they can’t stop watching Encanto though

 

Both great. Moana will always have a special place with me because it was the first movie theatre experience my daughter had. She was enthralled. I also had no expectations going and and enjoyed the movie way more than I though I would.

But Encanto is definitely the flavor of the month and the soundtrack is on a whole lot in my house and in the car.

 

Three year old has zero interest in Encanto.

She’s to busy carrying around her frozen karaoke machine in her frozen dress and frozen shoes and frozen wand.

I only saw about 20 mins of Moana, because my grandson insisted we bail from the theater. I'm still a little bitter.

6yo granddaughter currently obsessed with Encanto/Maribel to a degree that approaches her Frozen/Anna obsession of a few years back. She has a replica Maribel dress and makes her own videos replicating the dance for "Bruno".

Moana was the first Disney movie that had a complete soundtrack that fucked with Aladdin/lion king for me.

 

My hot take: Lion King soundtrack is wild overrated.

Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Mermaid are Disney films of that era that all have a much better lineup of songs. Y'all just let the power of the intro cover up for a pretty weak slate of songs after that

 

When I clicked on tmb today i did not expect to be watching a rock cover of how far I'll go from moana but here we are

 

Lol, yikes! I'll at least give you credit for claiming it as a hot take, but this post deserves its own shrine in the unpopular opinions thread.

 

Encanto was quickly forgotten by my kids. They enjoyed Luca more. They love Moana… Wife and I agree with them.

 

Encanto for me. I thought Moana was good but my son never latched onto it like he did Frozen/Wall-E/Toy Story/etc. He absolutely loves Encantos(as he says) and the strong song(Surface Pressure). The songs are absolute bangers and I can't get them out of my head, so damn catchy.
