They just released Wish and it was pretty bad. I shouldn't say bad, just very forgettable. Kid hasn't mentioned it once since watching it.
Holy shit, they took the Moana series that had been in production and converted it on the fly to a full length feature. This thing is gonna be a mess
It took now to realize? Not Toy Story 4..or 5…or Frozen 2…or 3…or Zootopia 2. Im probably missing others.
no more like all the incredible bombs they’ve had recently like Lightyear or The Marvels- Disney is hemorrhaging cash those movies above did well
They might have done well but Toy Story 4 was trash (heh) imo. Haven't sat through Frozen 2 start to finish but feel like I've caught enough to not care to. I guess what I'm saying has already been said and there is no originality just pumping out sequels for cash.
look they can do originality just write better movies or series - Disney’s problem hasn’t been sequels to successful movies it’s all the stand alone original stuff even if it’s in a universe we know already My five year old doesn’t watch anything that is new from Disney, he continues to watch all the old stuff.
The problem is they got woke. Making movies about the evils of imperialism and how powerful people exploit prejudice for political gain instead of good movies smh
Okay Ill withdraw my Frozen 2 take until I fully watch. My youngest loved the first but never cared for 2. Any time I looked up I was wildly confused, especially the water horse.
They cost themselves a lot of money by putting actual good movies straight to Disney Plus. Turning Red and Luca are probably the last good movies the studio made, and neither spent a day in theaters.
You know there was a thing called a pandemic right? Luca came out in 2021. Putting anything in a theater at that point was dumb.
You can also just shelve that movie until theaters are back open. The entire world was getting subscriptions to every streaming service they could in 2020. You don't need to entice people with Soul or Luca. They're gonna get Disney Plus anyway
Yes, and they sold half the tickets they did in 2019. Between that and trying to build out Disney+, I get the decision. Disney is fine imo. They need a banger every 2-3 years. They had Frozen 1/2, then Moana, then Encanto in 2022. The Pandemic messed with release schedules so they are due for a big one here soon.
Disney Plus was almost 3 years old when they punted Turning Red to it. Who that didn't already have a Disney Plus subscription was going to be swayed by that? All the streaming services do this shit and then wonder why they're hemorrhaging money.
Can someone explain the last 30 minutes of Frozen 2 cause I’m still not sure what the hell is going on.
Starting a new platform costs a lot. Their earnings report was pretty damn good. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/disn...end-as-streaming-losses-narrow-210518309.html
Iger already fixing things for the mouse but they still have a lot of work to do. They still need to fix their creative. Hamilton Cruella Luca Encanto Turning Red Black Panther Little Mermaid They can't all be hits but that's not bad for 3 years and I probably missed a couple.
Wish was decent, at least the soundtrack was great and has been on rotation in the car and our kids Tonie box. Although embarrassed to say I didn’t make the connection to When You Wish Upon a Star until way too late in the movie.
Bingo. Disney used to be run by the "blue sky" method. And shockingly, they made amazing content which made them amazing money. Now it's just cash grab after cash grab. Creativity has plummetted and profits are still high but have stopped the exponential growth they were enjoying previously.
not disney, but the same thing we are talking about. WB is shuttering a highly anticipated movie and would rather get the write off.
That’s what they claimed, but Black Widow was in theaters basically at the same time. It was more Chapek’s dumb decision to try to drive people to Disney+, when I imagine most people that would’ve seen Luca, Soul, and Turning Red in the theaters already had Disney+ accounts. Thus not attracting new subscribers. Black Widow was also available for rental on D+ while it was in theaters because of Covid, they didn’t do that with these three Pixar movies.
It's actual trash, sorry you had to find out this way. I also liked it when I was 11, but my kids watched it on Disney Plus and it stinks out loud.
