I have 2 AMCs within 5 miles of me. Both are fully upgraded where every theatre is reserved seating with leather recliners. And both locations have a Dolby Digital theatre and a faux IMAX.
New JP is what MoviePass is for A movie I want to see in theater but don’t think will be good and don’t want to pay a ticket for
Just headed to the theater to see this. Ended up having breakfast and wandering around sporting goods store. I'll see it at some point.
Just got the email... A Message To Our Members: The revolution is happening now, and it is all thanks to you. In less than a year, three million pioneers joined us on our journey to see more great movies at an unbeatable price. And we want to thank you, our community, for your steadfast support of our company and growth. In the spirit of innovation and growth, we are now announcing the next phase in the evolution of our product: Demand Pricing. In the coming weeks, we will roll out three different upgrades to our base $9.95 service for our members. Bring-A-Guest: MoviePass members will be able to purchase extra tickets to a showing of a movie right through the MoviePass app, so that you can seamlessly reserve seats for you and your friends (at e-ticketing partner theaters) to watch a film even if they aren’t MoviePass subscribers. As a benefit, if your friend signs up for MoviePass within 24 hours, we’ll refund the entire cost of the ticket! Peak Pricing: MoviePass is committed to maintaining our low monthly price as we continue to grow rapidly. Rather than raise our prices or limit viewings, our plan has been to develop a new variable pricing system based on the demand for particular showtimes. Under this plan, if the combination of demand for a title, date or part of day is higher, subscribers may be asked to pay a small additional fee depending on the level of demand. You can avoid this peak surcharge by choosing an alternative date or film. We will also soon give subscribers one “peak pass” per month, allowing them to waive a Peak Price surcharge once per month. Annual and Quarterly subscribers will not incur peak pricing until their current subscription term ends and then renews. Premium Showings: MoviePass members on any plan will soon be able to access RealD 3D, IMAX 2D or 3D, and other Premium Large Format showings of any film for an additional upgrade fee. These features are being tested currently and will slowly roll out to all our members over the next several weeks. Our aim is to create the most flexible and cost-efficient product, so that we don’t have to simply raise the price on the subscription. We appreciate your flexibility as we evolve our service to keep MoviePass at a low cost. We can’t express how much we value all of you for being part of that vision. Thank you. Sincerely, The MoviePass Team
Would not surprise me at all if they push the movies they have a steak in by peak pricing everything else. These dudes are shady as fuck.
It'll probably tell you when you try to check. I don't mind the premium screenings or bring a friend but the surge pricing is horseshit.
I normally go to those 12 or 1 pm matinee screenings so theoretically shouldn't effect me much unless it's a really popular opening weekend movie. I'll be canceling it the end of July anyway and won't be renewing until next June anyways though. That's if they even still exist by then. I'm still not sold on their business model being sustainable long term.
I'd imagine they'll do surge pricing for the entire opening weekend of big releases even the matinees. I hope they'll at least mark which showtimes are subject to the surge pricing in advance.
Same here, I work midnights so I almost always hit matinees, ill catch new movies on Friday mornings.
Oldsmar and then over by Anderson and Waters. Not sure if that's considered Citrus Park or not. The one at the mall is Regal.
the movie pass conundrum: I've seen almost everything my local theater (Alamo Drafthouse) is exhibiting.
Went to hereditary. If they shopped that movie around Hollywood by saying “we want to make Mr Bulldops really creeped out and uncomfortable for like 2 1/2 hours and then leave the theater with the wtf did I just watch feeling” then mission accomplished
Just saw where Alamo Drafthouse is testing monthly subscriptions. Wont be long before everyone is doing it, and MoviePass is fucked. https://deadline.com/2018/06/alamo-...ription-program-moviepass-amc-1202416846/amp/
Saw someone talk about Dolby a page or two ago. If any of you haven't seen a movie in Dolby digital format, you should really try it out. Great picture quality and it's so loud that you dont really have an issue with people talking in full theaters (really the only thing that kept me from going to the movies more in the past)
I don't see how theaters running ones that only work at their theaters is a better option. Moviepass is in trouble I'm sure but not because of competition.
I think they were already in trouble, but I doubt this helps. They were trying to eventually get a piece of concession money based on traffic they brought in, but I doubt AMC or other chains would be willing to do that when they have their own service.
Even though I go to drafthouse for 95+% of my movie watching I’ll stick with MoviePass. $6.99/month and can still get credit on Alamo victory (rewards) account
Saw Jurassic World yesterday. It was about as expected. 2 hrs of mindless fun. On a related note, movie previews are way too fucking long. If the movie start time says 12:00, it's not really starting until 12:25. I won't go to a theatre that doesn't have reserved seating anymore just so I can skip the previews and show up 20 minutes late and still get a good seat.
Counting the short before Incredibles 2, there were 32 minutes between listed start time and actual start time.
I'm trying to decide whether or not to switch to AMC A-List. Only thing giving me hesitation is that I wouldn't receive the stubs points for any ticket purchases. That's about 3000 points a week I'd be missing out on, and I think every 5000 you get a free $5. The benefit would be being able to reserve tickets ahead of time, and not having to pay to upgrade to Dolby
Yeah I was just reading the FAQ. You only get stubs points for the monthly charge, but not the movies you go see. So I would only be getting around 2,000 points a month instead of the normal 12,000+.
Do you ever see movies on vacation or in other cities? One of the best things about moviepass is that it works everywhere.
And on anything. Was in Vegas for spring break and ended up going to the movie theater in the Rio to see Demon House which was literally only playing at the movie theater in the Rio. Moviepassed that shit
Honestly cant remember the last movie I've been to that was outside of the city I live in. It is nice having that option, though.
Where the real money from the movie is made. MoviePass the T-shirt, MoviePass the Coloring Book, MoviePass the Lunch box, MoviePass the Breakfast Cereal, MoviePass the Flame Thrower. The kids love this one.
Oh god Alamo Drafthouse is doing a montage of “tearjerker moments from Pixar films” before incredibles 2
Saw Tag, American Animals, and Jurassic World this past weekend. All good movie pass movies. I was kind of disappointed with American Animals but it was still decent. Jurassic World was pretty good but I think the best part of it is how it sets up the next movie.
Is American Animals not playing because theaters don't want to support moviepass? It never came to Orlando.
