I really want to go back and watch the entire season again now. Speaking of which..... episode 2: Tonight:
So after thinking about it I'm going with Mr Robot still a manifestation of Elliot but took the shape of his dad in his subconscious. I think that is the only thing that makes sense. Unless his dad's cancer just kept him from aging.
Past the point of even trying to put my own theories together of what the fuck is going. I'm just going to enjoy the ride.
Like it's been duscussed. It's a version (for lack of better words) of Fight Club. When you see Mr Robot, you're actually seeing Eliot. In the car with Tyrrell it was Eliot just the audience saw him as Mr Robot; not unlike we saw Tyler. We know this because we know Tyrrell knew Eliot's secret about server 31.
Just got around to watching the last episode. I have no idea what to think at this point. Show has fucked my brain. Figured I'd see if TMB had a thread on the show to maybe help straighten me out but it appears you guys are just as mind fucked as I am.
So it's a Tyler Durden afterall. I guess every scene we saw Mr. Robot interacting with people alone was actually Elliot. "How long has this been going on?" "I don't know."
Loved the song selection in the final scene. When this show fucking hits, 30 minutes goes by in what feels like 5min
Hannibal hasn't gotten that popular up to this point. Fuck the general TMB television viewing audience.
I was so confused when this came on. The song comes on my Pandora pretty regularly. It absolutely came on either today or yesterday at work. I had Pandora open earlier when I was doing some stuff and then I went to watch the new episode and when the song started playing I actually checked to see if my Pandora started playing again or was still open. Will be interesting to see how they close out the season.
This may be cunty, but Im glad it's not. The threads for the more popular shows are miserable. Much more enjoyable discussing TV w a smaller group imo.
Such a great show. Binged watch the first 8 episodes on vacation. 2nd best show for me right now behind Ray Donovan.
I'm glad they didn't try to make that the big reveal of the finale. The pacing is really good. So now we've got the Elliot and Tyrell team up to take down Evil Corp? Yes sign me up for that. Two crazy geniuses trying to change the world is something I should enjoy.
Netflix. Mr Robot is awesome though. Hannibal was as good as better. However, I dont want to get in a dumb rankings discussion. Mr. Robot is phenomenal.
Gotcha, whats it about? Never seen a netflix show, which sucks for me I guess. I saw the 1st season of Han, and I loved it. Cant wait to catch up.
I've watched plenty of shows with very solid first seasons. Dexter, Heroes, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Lost, etc. Only Heroes and Lost on that list were fully original concepts. The others based on either books or other shows. Obviously Mr. Robot has some Fight Club elements but Esmail hasn't tiptoed around that whatsoever which shows great confidence for a pretty non-established person in entertainment. I'm too lazy to go back through the thread but I know someone else mentioned Esmail's confidence before and I think that's something that is separating this show right now.
I have to admit, one of the most intriguing things Esmail has said is his claim the story doesn't 'really' get started until next season. I believe he basically said Season 1 was the first act when he envisioned the series as a film, and Season 2 is when the story really falls into place. If so, next season is going to be mind blowing.
FYI the finale will be 75 minutes in TV time so probably right around an hour or so real time like the pilot was.
I thought about this on Wednesday and figured that the main purpose of this season was to bring Elliott and Tyrell together and next season we will watch them destroy shit.
can we talk about fight club spoilers because that last 5 minutes with the pixies covers was riddled with foreshadowing
Spoiler the where is my mind pixies version is playing as the credit card companies and banks are burning to the ground in the very end of fight club. it's also soon after the moment you find out that tyler durden is the narrator. the piano cover is playing right after you find out elliot's father is a manifestation, as well as during the scene where tyrell and elliot walk through the hack of evil corp, which is a bank.
that episode made me angry. the pacing was frustrating, and after all of the fuckery earlier to have mr. robot be in his head was actually a let down for me
Fantastic episode. Enjoyed the subtle acknowledgement of Elliot's issues between Darlene and Angela. The "reveal" or whatever was well done. I'm enjoying this show as much as I did breaking bad.
Esmail expected everyone to pick up on Slater's character not being real. It's right there from Elliot as he realizes it in the cemetery... "You knew all along didn't you?" I'd say going into that episode I was 90% sure Slater's character wasn't real but I was somewhat hopeful that the 10% would win out so we'd have just another layer of WTF with him either having faked his death or Elliot forgetting him somehow as he did with his sister but I thought the confirmation was handled pretty much perfectly.
That's cheap. He didn't expect that, he expected us to debate it and go back and forth on the possibility right up until that moment - which is exactly what the majority of us did. That "you knew all along" shit was just a smug way to own the fact that he'd been toying with us the whole time.
idk, i think he did expect us to know. they've broken the 4th wall a few times but i like when they do it. they dont overuse that
It pretty heavy handed. It was not subtle at all. If you didn't know Mr Robot was in Eliot's head you were not paying attention. Watch the first episode it is all there.
early on i hated the idea because it just seemed like a cheap knockoff of fight club but the last episode sold it for me they showed it to us early enough that it wasnt some huge series finale twist, they also put in enough nods to fight club to be self aware about the similarities.
