Yeah, I'm not blaming him at all. I think he did what he needed to do and I'm sure he'd handle it well if asked about it but NASCAR just seems sooooo ready to bury it that it feels like it's this elephant in the room, detracting from what has been one of the most dominant seasons in NASCAR history. Oh well, congrats to him. Clearly a generational talent that is a great story in his own right.
Yeah they did the huge media tour of him listening to minority groups and what not to smooth over the move. It's kind of ridiculous he gets like the best ride possible as a result of his fuck up.
Bumping for the Busch Clash on Sunday. I picked up some club seats and looking forward to my first race outside of Talladega. The .25 mile track at the LA Coliseum is either going to be really cool or really lame.
Dope. My buddy who’s big into NASCAR and worked for them and NBC for a bit is going. Should be a spectical at the least.
Picked up a new shirt just now. Not even a big Chase fan but how could you not pass up a Hooters shirt to wear to a Nascar race.
I’ve got tickets on the club section on the upper left of this shot. The final is going to have 23 cars on a 0.25 mile track
Parking was a nightmare. I’ve been to the Coliseum 30+ times and I’ve never seen how bad this was. It took an hour from getting off the freeway to get to the parking structure I prepaid for. Finally got in and was only able to see the last heat. We are in club seats so to get up there we had to take an elevator. They held us for a few mins as they had some VIPs coming. They weren’t lying.
And that caution gave Logano the lead and win. Wish Kyle would have driven really hard into a corner and moved Logano after Logano did the same shit before the halftime thing. Pretty surprised he didn't tbh.
Overall it was a really cool event. I haven’t been to a race since Talladega in 2008. Thought there was some really fun racing on a such a small track. I saw one three wide at one point. I didn’t find it to be a gimmick and interested to hear what they drivers thought of it. They had a good amount of fan interviews and there were too many Ricky Bobby references as their favorite driver. Hopefully this brings in a new group of fans then that would never have been interested before. Other highlights were a very good looking girl wearing a tight leather outfit with a checker flag theme. Saw an 8-10 year old kid with a shirt that said Breaking hearts and ripping farts. Saw some Let’s Go Brandon shirts, but that should be expected. Heard a couple chants but thankfully none of them stuck. Other downside was already mentioned, but parking and traffic was just stupid. I’ve been to the Coliseum 30+ times and it was like they had never ran an event. It took over an hour to get to the parking deck while getting off the freeway and an hour to get to the freeway while leaving.
Daytona 500 bump for tomorrow. Decent weather tomorrow so I’m having people over to watch on the outdoor TV. Gonna do poor mans burnt ends on the KJ. What’s everybody else got going?
I fucked up and forgot the qualifying races were Thursday but whatever. Anyone watch? What kind of racing did the new car produce? Better/worse/different?
Yeah I heard an analyst say he didn't know what if anything we should take from the coliseum because it was such a one off thing that is very different than basically every other race
I think it was more of them riding around and figuring things out since most were locked in. I expect tomorrow to be more exciting.
The last gen would often be them just riding the top mile after mile and yeah that's the worst kind of racing in the series I think
Edit add on: put in a couple hundo in DK entries so will be doing those as well. Anybody else do Nascar DraftKings or FanDuel?
It was very much manufacture based riding around together too. Which is another thing making nascar boring as shit.
Only way to fix that is to 2 cars per team like F1 but that would mean they need more owners. And/or more manufacturers. That’s a whole different situation.
I’ve heard them say that the 500 should be less single file than the duels based on how the cars were running and doubling the number of cars on track. Who knows.
