Nashville bros, is the info in the OP ( Jax Teller ) still good? Will be staying near the Ryman for a Jason Isbell show in 2 weeks.
Thank you! Having established that, what do you recommend for BBQ, restaurant with a good wine list, and an evening music venue?
Nashville is not the best bbq town in the south by any means, but my favorite is Bringles. The most popular seems to be Eldeys or Martins but they’re very mid imo. Not so sure about the wine lists, but my favorite restaurants are Henrietta Red, Lyra, City House, Husk, Chauhan, and The Optimist. Rolf and Daughters is pretty solid too. The Ryman is the best and most famous music venue. If someone you like is playing there, go. Maybe some guidance as to what you’re looking for would be helpful because there’s quality live music everywhere you go.
I'm Uber jealous. Went to his show last year and it was so good. Get there early to get a concert poster. He did two posters last year and it was worth getting both.
Appreciate it! We will be in town to catch a Jason Isbell concert at the Ryman on Fri the 21st. We will be staying nearby. Are your recommended establishments in that part of the city. The music we will look for will mainly have elements of folk and rock, but we also enjoy jazz. And non-formulaic country would be worthwhile.
no, none of them are but most are pretty close. All within a 15 minute Uber though. I try to avoid downtown/broadway… most of the food I’ve had there isn’t the best and is overpriced… and in general just very touristy. Just my opinion.
Recommend Peg Leg Porker for BBQ. Do not go to Edley’s. Martin’s is decent at best. I’m always going to recommend the Continental. Not sure on its wine selection, but it’s the best prime rib you’ll ever have. If you don’t want to the full fledged dinner (it’s expensive), get there right at 5 and sit at the bar and get a prime rib burger ticket. It’s amazing too.
When I was there a couple of years ago, I recall Urban Grub had a pretty solid wine list and great food.
For BBQ, I always stop by Peg Leg when I'm in town. Close enough to everything and really good. Martin's gets a lot of business but, as I said in the travel thread the other day, I've had bbq just as good in suburban Chicago. There's absolutely nothing special about it other than it's a cool spot. For music, if you don't mind Broadway absolutely hit up Roberts Western World. It's the last old school honky tonk on Broadway. Everything else will be bands playing Luke Combs and Florida Georgia Line covers until your ears bleed or you get so drunk you don't realize how shitty those songs are. Whichever happens first.
I went to Urban Grub for an anniversary dinner and it was the worst expensive meal I've had in the last 5 years. Obviously could have just been a bad night but it was horrific. For BBQ, I'd rate them: 1. PLP 2. Martin's 3. Edley's Never been to Bringles so I can't rate it.
Where's the best play to watch college football and/or braves playoff games? Staying downtown but don't mind uber/biking anywhere that will be a good time
Bringles in The Nations Nobels in East Double Dogs in Sylvan Heights Our watch party bar is downtown at Corner Pub and has tons of TV's and is off Broadway. The only downside is you come out of there smelling like you just worked an 8 hour shift at McDonalds.
I still recommend TN, and the positives outweigh the negatives, but only if you are moving here from a higher-cost-of-living area and can afford the housing/apartment costs. Bellevue isn't really "Nashville," and we know multiple people who bought houses there in the last 1-2 years.
I'm pretty excited about the Auto Diesel College property being repurposed. It will be nice to walk across Gallatin and eat/shop at more places in a few years.
This is the correct answer. Honestly, might just throw in "any corner pub" or "any double dogs". I also love watching games at Red Door midtown because no one is typically there (I watch NFL football games there) but I am not sure how it would be for baseball in the evening/afternoon
Double Dogs in Sylvan has some cheap beer. Eagles fans take over that place on Sunday’s though. Otherwise it’s an easy spot to find parking, not have to wait on a table or get charged the Nashville tax. Think a 24oz homestyle is $7.25 which is cheaper than the brewery. Their in house lager is $4 lol
I live next to this location and hang out there often. The Eagles fans are GREAT at spelling., E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLESSSS. Blah, I hate it.
I’m right up the hill and there 2-3 nights a week. If you’re ever at the bar at night we’ve probably chatted a time or two.
Going to Nashville with 10 guys average age 35 for friend’s bachelor party in Feb. Staying at house in 5 points. Thurs-Sunday.. Figure se can hit up Preds game. Other recommendations? TIA
I live in the condos above the old farm burger/chattable. I am at DD's probably once a week, wearing an NBA jersey or baseball cap
Anyone get a vasectomy that they just LOVED? If so, I’d appreciate a recommendation - I’m in Spring Hill so Franklin/Brentwood area would be preferred.
Keep hearing that Bills Sandwich Shop is going into Sweet 16ths location Sad about the bakery Happy about sandos during the week
Nashville needs better Sandwich/Deli shops. We basically have: Mitchell's Little Hats (super hit or miss) Pastaria (surprisingly amazing lunch sammies) 51st Deli Tower Deli? It's a JV team at best.
Lived in Germantown when it opened and gf lives there now. It's just like 50/50. Sometimes the bread has been harder than concrete. Sometimes its amazing. NO
that’s too bad. I guess I got lucky the one time I’ve been, because it was great. Hopefully they work that out, because like you said we need more good deli/sandwich shops
How do we feel about The Nations? May rent an apartment over there for a year before we figure out where to buy. Seems like there is some stuff walking distance. There is one called Bexley Silo Bend that looks pretty decent.
Yes, love it. I believe it’s a better version of East Nashville and wish I had bought over there vs. East in 2016. Very walkable. Had friends that rented a house there the last few years and had nothing but good things to say.
