The last article I remember reading said the FAA was not very supportive of the plan to expand the runway if I recall.
Lack of a direct flight hasn’t seemed to slow down Nissan from what I’ve seen working there (most of their new investment money is headed towards the MS plant right now anyways).

I mean… I never knew that the length of a runway had a direct effect on how far a plane could fly

I’m not positive, but I think it’s about the types of planes that could land here. British Airways operates a 787, which is considerably smaller than the 777. 777 is the type of plane that would be needed for the direct Asian flight.

The initial FAA rejection seemed more like a formality where BNA is required to go through more due diligence before getting approval. As someone who goes through development hoops (albeit on a much smaller scale) every day, this is pretty common from any AHJ.

Nissan North America alone also spent almost $150M on private planes for their execs in one year within the past 10 years. They’ve probably spent more since then. They aren’t the sole driver behind the attempt to get a flight. They’ve been here since 1997, so if that were the case we would have tried long ago.

LG Chem is investing into the midstate in a way no previous company ever has between their GM partnership and their plant in Clarksville. We are taking multiple billions in a few years.

We have Korean based auto suppliers trying to get into our market every single day. The list goes on and on…

I wasn’t trying to say they were the sole driver. It seems BNA needs to do a better job showing the demand exists to the FAA as they don’t appear convinced as of yet.

There’s no way that passes right? I have to imagine the money lost would be significant.

You’d also be making stores waste tons of cooler space or remodel their stores and I’m sure they wouldn’t pass those costs on to us at all…..

Just spent a nice four nights in your city celebrating my 50th and a friend's 50th along with a handful of couples. I'm not a huge country guy, but I know enough and I love live music in general and it's tough to pick a place with more collective talent.

Anyway, we had a blast. Ate a lot, drank a lot, walked a lot and heard a lot of great music. And while the rest of my group was off spending too much on boots and other attire they'll hardly ever wear outside of Nashville, I peeled off and spent way too much money at Third Man Records.

Anyway, just realized I should have checked in this thread before going, but had a blast anyway.

Food highlights: The Diner for breakfast, Prince's Hot Chicken (in the food hall), and Hampton Social for birthday dinner.

Hit a ton of bars, and best experiences are tied to the bands, but I really liked upstairs at Bootleggers (just less crowded and cookie cutter new country) The Stage (band was good), Whiskey River (the bull is good people watching), Wild Beaver (but not the sticky carpet around the pool table), Cash Bar & BBQ (band there was a lot of fun), and Legends, where my wife got a picture with the same singer who took her up on stage for her 40th Bday 8 years ago.

Didn't love the cookie cutter newer artist-named places as much as they seem more of a draw to bros and Bachelorette parties, and in fact I felt dirty walking into Kid Rock's, but I was with a big group.

I didn't like FGL House, much as a venue, but they had a three piece with a great young guitar player. They were getting hit left and right with rock requests seemingly made to test said guitarist, who nailed some Hendrix along with EVH Eruption and DG's solo on Comfortably Numb. While I enjoyed most of the bands, that group was a bit of an oasis for this aging rock fan.

Stayed at The Burnham...loved it, along with the doughnuts across the street.

We didn't do much "touring" of landmarks, etc., because that wasn't really the agenda. We rode out to walk around the Gaylord, which was a site, but it was crazy packed with the Wild Turkey Federation Convention, which, as a friend said, could have easily just been a Trump rally.

Food options there were "meh" and uninteresting, as well. It was still cool to walk around and sing "World of Pure Imagination," though.

What do we think of the Riley Strain situation?

I frequent the greenway. I had a feeling once he crossed woodland he was lost.

I think the poor kid was drunk, concussed, and needed to pee. The search needs to be past Ashland City.

It's a situation all too familiar to us up here in Chicago. We have the river and the lake. They're almost always in the water.

Crazy that they found another body while looking for him.

I made a last minute decision to join a bachelor party in Nashville in 2 weeks. I get in around 1:00 pm on a Friday, and am leaving late the following night. I think unfortunately I'm going to be participating in some pretty douchey Nashville behavior downtown for Friday night/Saturday during the day.

However, I'm going to have a 3-4 hour stretch by myself/with 1-2 others (the rest of the group is golfing and won't be back at the hotel until 4:00-5:00 p.m.), and I want to spend that time doing something that's not Broadway/the large country bars on Broadway. I'm currently going through the first page and last several of this thread, but any recommendations on a restaurant and bar/brewery to check out? East Nashville seems promising and to have lots of options.

If you like IPAs, go to bearded Iris. If you like sours, go to southern grist. East Nashville has a lot of good options as well. Patterson house in midtown is a great upscale bar. There’s a lot of other bars in that area too. Game Terminal has a bunch of old arcade games and pinball with a bar, always a good place to kill time. Pins Mechanical is similar with duckpin bowling.

How updated is the front page recs?

Never been to Nashville somehow living in SC about 6 hours away. Going in two weeks for friend's 40th birthday. It's actually a couples trip so there will be about 12 of us I think maybe more I forget. I'll have to check and see where we're staying. It's not a hotel I know. Looking forward to it. Think we'll be there Thurs to Sun.

It’s fairly outdated but let us know where you're staying and the like and we'll throw out some newer recs. There's a new BBQ spot downtown that just opened that'll be worth a visit if you get sucked into the broadway/downtown experience. And it's almost patio season. Best time of the year to visit IMO.

So we're staying in a house over on Humphrey St down off 4th Ave area. Is that any help? I have no idea how to tell where we're staying really. Just trying to get an idea for what's good nearby.

Wedgewood Houston area then. I don't know that area as well as some others, but can recommend Dozen bakery for breakfast. Just be sure to get there early, as the line can get pretty long.

Bastion is a cool bar nearby that has an incredible dinner service, but it only seats 24, so with 12 people you are probably out of luck for dinner there.

I've been to Earnest Bar and Hideaway a couple times and it's not bad, but I don't remember it being anything to write home about.

I've heard Iggy's is good, but haven't been myself.

If anyone is into Civil War history and you have time, you are very close to Fort Negley. Union built fort that was the largest inland fort built during the war. Has a pretty cool view of downtown from up there, too.

Coming to town February 14-17th with the wife. Staying at a BNB off Broadway in the Music Row area it appears.

What are the must hit restaurants, breweries, distilleries, venus, etc? Wife likes country music so we’ll probably hit the Opry one night. I like bourbon and craft beer. Scoured the thread and it looks like the first post is a little outdated.

Patterson House is a great upscale bar, perfect spot before a night out. Bearded Iris makes the best IPAs in town imo. Southern Grist makes great beer, really good sours if you’re into those. There are actually a ton of breweries that have popped up the last few years, and I don’t really venture into the brewery scene much these days, so someone else could probably help out more there. Grand ole Opry is actually way outside of downtown, not sure it’s really worth the trouble to drive out there unless your wife just really wants to see it. If so, might as well walk through the Gaylord hotel while you’re out there, pretty cool hotel with an indoor botanical garden. If you can catch a show at the ryman, that’s the venue you want to visit. It’s downtown.

If you have time and the wife allows, Nashville Barrel Co has some great bourbon. They source a lot of MGP product that they age here. NYGator knows more than I do about individual good barrels, but it’s a good spot altogether.

This is from a board I am on...NBC and River Roots have been the most consistently good in picking barrels lately, but NBC has many more.

Here’s a breakdown of what he said about each NBC/NT barrel run. NBC and Nashtucky barrel numbers overlap so there is no need to distinguish between them. NBC ages their barrels in Nashville.
    Ryes are all 95/5 MGP
    1xx – Beam/Bookers
KY Bourbon 5xx-6xx – NDA on source; distinct notes from a certain distillery in Bardstown imo (Willett)
3xx – MGP (21% rye); most likely Kelvin
    4xx - MGP (21% rye); don’t know if Kelvin
11xx – MGP (21% rye). Legendary run among NBC heads. All the ones I’ve had have that Kelvin vibe.
13xx - MGP (21% rye); most likely Kelvin
15xx – NDA on source; Kelvin. Mostly 5 year and are fire. Drink much older
16xx – MGP (36% rye). Limited run of high-rye MGP; not Kelvin
24xx – MGP (21% rye); not Kelvin (AFAIK)
    27xx & 28xx – Beam/Bookers.
    3xxx – MGP (21% rye) in Kelvin
51xx – NDA but same source as 15xx but don’t get the same love; Kelvin
    55xx – NDA; don’t know if Kelvin
6xxx – New run from unknown TN source; have not gone through LC process and are fruit bombs; I think Kelvin.

What type of food/vibe do you like for restaurants? I can point you in a decent direction on most anything. We basically have the commercialized Broadway stuff that is fine, but venturing 10 min uber to Germantown or East Nashville we have some great places that are less touristy.

Good looking out. I’m an IPA/stout/lager guy not big into sours anymore. Had some Bearded Iris in the past definitely a fan. I’ve tried to convince her the ryman is the play but she seems set on the opry. I’ll keep pushing the other way.

You have my interest. I’ll add them to the list for sure. Thanks to you and NYGator for the tips on this one.

Definitely not into the commercial/touristy places. Locally owned stuff is more up my alley. Is there a top spot or two you’d recommend in Germantown/East Nashville?
