Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Virginia plans on having Clifton Richardson as part of their 2011 class. Clifton Richardson plans to be there, most likely. That being said, he’s still going to see what else is out there. We caught up to Richardson last night at the Grassfield scrimmage, and he’s still looking around. “I’m going to make my final decision soon. I’m going to take some official visits and make my decision after that.” Richardson then went on to list the schools he plans to visit. “Tennessee, West Virginia, Maryland, UVA and probably South Florida. I like Virginia because of the coaching staff. They’re going to turn that program around,” said Richardson. Clearly, he’s impressed with Coach London and his efforts to rebuild the Cavalier Football program. Academically, Richardson still has some work to do. He has to take a few more classes that will help him with his core GPA and he plans to take the SAT in September. From there he’ll know where he stands with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Richardson remains confident about qualifying and is determined to stay focused on the field and off the field. “I had a rough night tonight, but I’m going to work that out and cut out the mistakes.” Richardson fumbled the ball a few times while at quarterback. His Menchville team will need the best Clifton Richardson they can get on Friday nights. His college choices are looking forward to a focused and ready Clifton Richardson on Saturday afternoons. That will come soon enough.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** bowanko's thread is pure greatness.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** I read that Richardson got banged up in the game this week. Ankle I think. They never mention his grades on rivals. I keep hearing it's a big issue.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Big big big basketball commit coming down. Malcolm Brogdon out of Georgia.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Bennett has been doing an awesome job recruiting. I remember that was one of my biggest fears when we hired him.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Yeah he seems to close the deal on official visits real well. This played out just like KT's last year.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Mike London teleconference notes 08.24.10 ... The defense will less volume of calls from the secondary. London said that Rodney McLeod is the quarterback of the defense ... The gap between the top-five running backs has narrowed even further. London singled out Raynard Horne as a player that has made a big move. He also spoke highly of Dominique Wallace. The UVa coach said that the competition between Horne, Wallace, Jones, Payne, and Parks has made each one better ... As for Kevin Parks, London said that he still has a decision to make with regard to whether he will redshirt freshman. The staff will make the decisions on the depth chart and redshirts later this week ... Ausar Walcott has all of the physical tools but he is still learning to play fast. London said that Walcott is starting to distinguish himself as a player deserving of playing time . London said that the play of the SAM and WILL LBs will be critical. The outside guys will have to be able to play in space in coverage and show well as tacklers in the running game. The UVa head coach said he feels good about the pass coverage aspects but the play against the run will determine playing time for the players jockeying for position ... Special teams is being treated as an equal part of the equation. London said that this UVa team needs all the advantages possible and for that reason, a special emphasis will be placed on special teams and it will be manned with the best players available for each unit ... Jacob Hodges was a manager for the team and is now on the team. Hodges, who was a QB in high school, is now No. 1 on the depth chart as the holder for field goals and extra points ... Top kick-returners are Dom Wallace and Raynard Horne. The top punt returners are Chase Minniefield, Devin Wallace, Rodney McLeod, and Tim Smith .. Marc Verica has thrown a few interceptions during camp but London pointed to a great defensive play on one of those. Overall, the UVa head coach said that he feels that Verica has played well this summer. As for his concern level, he joked that until Verica threw every pass successfully to his intended target, there will always be some concern ... London said once again Metheny, Rocco, and Strauss are still taking back-up reps. He went on to say that the staff will eliminate reps for one of those signal callers to get down to a first, second, and third team QB ... Verica's maturity level as a fifth-year senior has really helped him establish himself as a leader of the team. He was voted as a captain, so there is obviously a high level of respect from his teammates. London said he feels confident that Verica can handle the load and step up and be "that guy" ... Miles Gooch is currently the scout team quarterback and he is playing a variety roles on the scout team. London said that Gooch will not play this year.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Im glad their giving Miles a year to work out at QB - could use the option for sure.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** I agree. Not too many of our qbs have the athleticism Gooch offers. Dom Wallace and Horne returning kicks? We must have the biggest kick returners in CFB this year. Those are some big boys. Reminds me of when Groh let Brooks return a few kicks.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** A hilarious experiment that was.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** I just read Timmy was in a walking boot today at the scrimmage
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Farrell said we are going to land Troy Gray more than likely. I think he is visiting for the UR game. Kid has 13 offers. I talked to a friend of mine who is a Cock fan. Their ESPN guy says UVA will land Rory Anderson from Powder Springs, GA. A teamate of Marcquis Roberts.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** unc goes on probation and loses butch -> uva takes its place in the struggle for the coastal with miami, vt, gt for the foreseeable future
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** It would take them down a peg or two. The funny thing they are one of the teams we still manage to beat every year. I would like to see if we can steal Romero from UNC. I haven't heard anything mentioned about that though.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** and we'll get demetrious nicholson. with Anderson and Gray, would really round out some positions of need in a big way.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Think we have room for Romero at this point?
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** That may be why his name hasn't come up much in all this UNC mess. I think he could fit in still. We are still looking for lbs and I would take Romero over some of the guys we are recruiting. Only because he is instate and from the stats comes off as an high effort guy.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Yeah I definitely was high on Romero initially, and would love to take him. Was just reading stuff Jamie was saying and it's looking like the staff is only going to take one more LB - at least only has the room to. I know Gray wants to commit soon, but the staff might not even take that verbal (which would be a mistake).
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** I agree we might as well take Gray. There is no garauntee on the other lbs we have offered. We haven't had too many of these GA kids pan out for us iirc. We have gotten one each of the last few years. They have had some trouble. Javaris Brown and Tory Allen are gone. Funny thing is Allen would actually fit well in our new defensive scheme with his size/speed. Think he had grades issues though..

Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** I will be coming up for the first time to UVA for our game the first weekend of October. I know it's early but can you all recommend good restaurants and bars I should hit up while I am there? I will be there from Thursday to Saturday.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** way too many great bistro-ish places to eat in cville to name this early just walk up and down the corner (strip of bars across from the rotunda on main street) or up and down the downtown mall (strip of restaurants about 10 blocks down mainstreet organized in a pedestrian walk around fashion) cville is much smaller and much much much more compact than tally so doing those two things will yield great results
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Restaurants, like cas said, go downtown - you really can't go wrong (if you're lookin to spend $$$ Downtown Grille is incredible). Biltmore is the big fratastic crowded bar on the Corner, but if you're looking for a more chill atmosphere with a great beer list, check out Michael's Bistro. Lived in Cville for 24 years so if you need anymore specific recommendations, can do.
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Ok game week notes and predictions: Week One - Richmond -Head coach is our WR coach from last year -Lost 20+ starters from last year -Wayne Lineburg is running their offense -Our seniors have never won a season opener -Aaron Corp will be starting at QB for the spiders I can't make it to the Hook, so I'll be listening on the radio - this did not work out against William & Mary. Predictions: Marc Verica will manage the game well - not without a turnover though Raynard Horne will score out first TD Defense will show up in a big way while using this game to work out some kinks in the 4-3 transition 27-10 Hoos
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Did not realize this. Damn... Would love to see this. I really want to root for the guy. So far it hasn't worked out for him. I have a feeling some of the UR players will be itching to show it to their old coach. I'm not sure how long that emotion will last once the game starts, but it may help UR to get a few things going early. I don't want them having any early success.
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Just spoke with the sophomore tailback, here are a few notes ... Jones said that his lead recruiter Bob Pruett had discussed the possibility of playing tailback at Virginia but that no one really recruited him to play there because all of his film from his junior year was on defense. Jones admitted that he does miss making tackles and that he jokes with the coaches that he'll play both ways if they need him to. But Jones also said that Al Groh gave him the choice of where to play at the he chose offense. Jones admitted that he struggled academically in his first semester at Virginia and that the transition was tough, but that he has buckled down and settled in, and that he's doing the job in the classroom and feels like he has a firm grasp on what it takes to succeed in that aspect of college life. I asked Jones about the progress that the OL has made and he said the biggest difference is in their mindset. Jones said the linemen are playing hard and playing fast, and that they're all doing a great job. Said Jones, "I think we're going to do some good things in the running game." In terms of the healthy competition at tailback during camp, with seven talented guys getting reps, Jones said that was a situation that made everyone on the roster better. He was also quick to point out that it wasn't just about competition, however, because all of the backs are cheering for and pushing each other. In terms of his ability to block and catch the ball out of the backfield, Jones said he felt like he was a pretty good blocker but that it was an important part of the game and an area where he could keep getting better. He said as a receiver he felt like he had good hands and hadn't dropped many balls at all during camp. And finally, Jones was asked about Raynard Horne's emergence in the last few weeks. Jones said he looked up to Horne and that he had an impressive combination of size and speed. Jones said he was surprised that Horne didn't get any playing time earlier and wondered "why wouldn't you get this guy on the field." That's it from Perry
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** These new jerseys look badass. Keith Payne with a TD on the first drive.
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** 10 years later...welcome to big time college football keith payne.
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** No shit he was running hard. It was nice to see us put up a good score against an FCS team again.
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Thanks for posting whatwhat. I was just looking for this.. 2010 Football Highs Richmond Sounds like Clifton Richardson is firming things up. Anybody know about his grades??
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** nice fuckin pictures, dude. saw the opening line is UVA +18 for next week.
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Found them in the schools site. They get some good ones almost every game. Yep about what I figured with the +18. I was thinking +21. I want to see if the line shifts.
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Dowling should be ok for Saturday. McCleod is going to travel but London isn't sure if he'll play.
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** ACC Players of the Week!!! CO-OFFENSIVE LINEMAN – Oday Aboushi, Virginia, OT, So., 6-6, 295, Staten Island, N.Y. (Xaverian) Aboushi started his first contest for the Cavaliers, leading the offensive line with seven pancake blocks. He helped Virginia rush for 205 yards after the Cavaliers only topped the 200-yard rushing total once in 2009. Virginia averaged 5.9 yards per rush. Aboushi was part of an offensive line that allowed just one sack Saturday after surrendering 41 in 2009.
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Odds Dowling/Mcleod will play?
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** so if the secondary is the least of his concerns, he must be fearing our incredible special teams
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** whats the line? 20+ Id figure. I didnt believe how bad uva's offense was that bad in 09' until i read: It was a good start for the Cavs who averaged 19 points, 99 yards rushing and 170 passing per game in 2009, ranking ahead of just two schools in offense: Washington State and New Mexico State. To put their offensive futility another way, they had less total yardage and fewer touchdowns than 12 quarterbacks managed by themselves in ‘09.... lol sad. For any chance to win the game, they need to eat the clock and hope for some turnovers. get it to the 4th qtr I guess would be the plan.
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** if teh game is close i expect usc to lose at least 6 games this year
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** every game and matchup is different usc could overlook this one and then come out and run the pac 10
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** If the game is close I expect UVA to win at least 6 games this year. What happened in the Hawaii game though? Was it their offense being good/well prepared or your defense not being good/well prepared?
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** what they were really good at(passing) we sucked at(defending the pass) I dunno if Monte's defense has the answer to the spread gotta wait and see. We also have a few shifts in the DL, new starter and a former starter returning from injury
Re: Beating up on FCS Teams **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** "I'm looking at all of the schools that are giving me looks," he explained. "I don't have a favorite right now. I know I'm gonna call Coach (Mike) London soon. I don't know too much about them yet. I just finished a conversation with Luke Bowanko and he was talking about how college is going up there. He's liking it so far." It's cool, guys. Bo's having a good time.
