Blazers slide by Orlando for the 5th worst record.
nuggets seem bound and determined to try to lose the 1 seed if we can. don't see us advancing too far either way, just utter dogshit the last month or so.
Did you watch the game tonight
I know the whole team was out and Joker the other night too but they've been fair to middling for a month
i am shocked that the negotiations were peaceful
i guess silver delivers the money and that's what matters
They're just such a "meh" team when Joker is not on the floor.
Maybe they're trying to work through some of that right now but the timing couldn't be worse.
So uhh mid szn tournament is official it sounds like.
65 is higher than I thought it would be...that's going to come into play
And no change to the draft rule
expanded free agency and trade opportunities for teams not trying to win definitely makes a lot of sense
The suns are coming out of the west. Start to cope now
I like everything I’m reading so far
good shit on the 65 game threshold
That 65 game threshold is going to be really interesting with teams that are tanking once they're out of the playoff race. Someone like Lillard, for example, has been shut down and this would make him ineligible for All-NBA teams because he's been stuck at 58 games.
At the rate things have been going, finding 15 players to vote for All-NBA who played enough games might get pretty tough some years. Giannis right now would have to play 4 of 5 remaining games just to be eligible for any awards.
I wish there had been like a designated player exception or some type of carve out providing some form of salary cap relief for supermaxes. It seems like every team that signs a player to a third contract supermax gets immediately hobbled because it takes up such an enormous portion of the cap. You shouldn't have to feel dread as you sign your homegrown superstar to the largest contract possible.
They had a four game losing streak then won like 6 of 7.
Also there's very little chance they lose the 1 seed.
Management is going to be abusing that.
You got a guy good enough to win one of those awards and he's sitting at 63 or 64 games played with one week left and he's got an incentive in his contract to get more money if he wins one of these awards?
"Well buddy we're going to shut you down for the rest of the regular season to keep you fresh for the playoffs."
Serious question… how much is the one seed worth if it comes with a healthy PHX/GSW winner in round 2? That looks very possible and is a shit reward for the Nuggs, as inconsistent as GS has been and as little time as KD has had with the rest of the team those have to be the two worst matchups for Denver in the west. Maybe them being on the same side and knocking each other is a good thing?
do you really think teams will antagonize an award caliber player to save $500,000?
the far more likely manipulation is guys playing 1 minute
Some of these contract incentives are in the millions. And never doubt the cheapness of a billionaire.
You’re completely off base on this
It wouldn't even be about the money at that point, it would be about the blatant and over the top disrespect from ownership
That's what the players union is for.
its obviously more important to prevent teams like the clippers and warriors from adding guys like john wall and donte divincenzo
There would be an immediate grievance filed if a player was healthy and wanted to play and the team wouldn't allow him to.
I think the grievance thing will be trickier if a player is told by the team to sit out 3-5 games early in the season and then ends up under the 65 threshold by that margin at the end. Does there need to be some sort of documentation that says the player is okay with it to avoid that kind of thing?
Was coming to ask this. I can see this happening a lot. Imagine there will be some minimum-minutes stipulation soon in order for a game to count.
It's not ideal but not much you can really do about it. They'd have to intentionally tank hard to get to 2. They're up 3 games with like 5 to play.
Denver can beat both of those teams though. Might as well do it in round 2.
He's been pretty bad on defense for large stretches of this season.
Makes sense, but still a pretty significant change
good it should be jokic embiid and giannis first team ever year
Mavs are really going to miss the play in lmao
Nice win by the Pels over the Clips.
ingram so fucking good lately. pellies will be an annoying out for whoever they face. west is a mess.
mavs continue to be hysterically awful and i enjoy it greatly
that heat team isn't very good and mavs just looking like the worst defensive team i've watched in years
the lakers or pelicans being able to dodge the play in with some wins and a little luck melts my brain
Mavs and hawks both being awful has been hilarious, objectively
would be hilarious if the clips and dubs fucked around enough trying to angle to be the 6 seed that they fell to the play in
Pelicans close with SMF, MEM, NY at home and the last a MSP.
Gonna be a Spurs legend
This dude is a cheat code
