I mean look at him he's wearing a suit. He does thoughtful, sober analysis of basketball and has zero interest in gambling. He's everything ESPN is trying to move away from.
At first I thought there was a Rachel Nichols situation I didn’t see coming but you are right. It’s just bad that espn does not care about making basketball fans smarter. We will get more Pat McAfee style guys yelling at us would be an upgrade like going from Harrison Barnes to KD
Lowe getting fired is the kind of thing that is shocking when you read it but probably shouldn't be. Him lasting as long as he did at that salary is probably more surprising when you really think about it considering nothing he does would seem to make money for a company that has proven that is all it cares about since Skipper left (and probably before). The days of them paying 7 figures for someone who isn't good on TV and isn't interested in doing the stuff they want have been over for a while. It's stupid, but unfortunately this is what we're stuck with.
The Pistons lost their Athletic beat writer to the Knicks and have an opening in case he really wants to embrace the depression.
I wonder what his non-compete is going to be. Hopefully he isn't getting Kellerman'd and will be able to move onto something new sometime soon.
Kellerman was a shouting hot take artist, which is what ESPN wants. Makes sense they would put a non compete on him. They're out of the analysis business, what point is there in keeping a thoughtful analyst from offering something they don't want to offer. Kevin Pelton better start floating his resume.
I think they do that with pretty much everyone. If I'm not mistaken, both Ford and Stein had to sit out a while when they were dumped for Woj. Neither of them were TV guys. For his sake I hope you're right. I have no clue how much longer his deal went there.
Damn, I might have to actually listen to Ben Taylor now and see what he’s all about. We are running out of options.
He's fine. Sam Vecenie is pretty good, but his new co-host sucks compared to Coach Spins. Mismatch might be worthwhile as they rotate people through with Vernon.
It's interesting how the bland coach-speak style of analysis got replaced by "stat dorks" like Lowe for awhile, only for that to be replaced by something much louder and dumber than where we started
I hate Verno’s shock jock style radio voice. But he also had KOC’s negative charisma splashing all over him so I’ll give it another shot.
The people ESPN have covering basketball now are dogshit. Lost JVG Mark Jackson Breen team in announcing. Lost Woj in reporting. Now Lowe as an analyst. Their pregame and halftime shows have always been ass. But at least we get to listen to Kendrick Perkins breathe heavily into the mic for the next 5 years.
I think its unfair to question why perk still has a job when we should be questioning why dave mcmenamin still has a job
What sites are there are this point he could move to if he didn't go that route? The Athletic has its own $$ issues and probably isn't looking to spend for someone like him unless it loses Shams and doesn't replace him. I really doubt The Ringer has that kind of $$ to throw around. All the other sites a writer of his stature could work at 10+ years ago are either gone or irrelevant.
They just want to roll out a bunch of dumbasses that will spout out hot takes and engagement farming material
More like Zach Lowe Ratings. It’s going to be Greeny, Stephen A, and McAfee pulling 8 hour shifts 7 days week for 75 million a year each.
