Starting next season, the NBA won't count an end of quarter heave as a missed shot for a player. It'll be a missed shot for the team. That's if the shot came from at least about 36 feet out, came in the final 3 seconds of the first three quarters, and the play started in the backcourt.— Mike Vorkunov (@mikevorkunov.bsky.social) 2025-07-05T17:04:29.971Z
I think that's tremendous for the Wizards. I'm a large believer in him, he looked great when he saw the floor against OKC this year
I’m a fan of just about everything the wiz have done for the last 18-24 months minus the Avdija trade. Think they really have something cooking. Now if they can get CJ McCollum deported, I’d be fine with it
Respect to the Rockets for doing it. He has more potential than that, but he was clearly never going to reach it in Houston with all the bodies they have so they shipped him to a team where he might be able to get his career going. The Warriors could learn something from that with Kuminga at some point instead of dedicating half a decade to ruining his career at the expense of the org.
based on whitmore's draft-day slide and his trade cost today, i think it's fair to assume that the league thinks he's not someone who plays or contributes (or likely cares about) winning basketball. and that's reinforced by some of those advanced metrics or whatever where he literally doesn't pass the ball. of course, bad franchises should roll the dice on talent and washington has some veterans to help guide him. i'd have been happy if portland made the trade and tried to turn whitmore into a bench scorer. but hard to think about this as a negative move for houston, personally.
Myles Turner replacement secured FROM SHAMS: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading center Jay Huff to the Indiana Pacers for one second-round pick and one second-round pick swap, sources tell ESPN.— Shams Charania Tweets (& Other NBA News) (@shamsbot.bsky.social) 2025-07-05T21:20:22.910Z
I'm surprised kel'el ware is playing in the summer league at all, let alone this pre-vegas tournament
Considering everyone is in the play-in picture in the East, that isn't saying much, but that team sucks
their first rounder next year is top 8 protected, so pushing for 33 wins to be in contention for the 10 seed doesnt make a ton of sense for a team that still doesnt have "the guy" on their roster
Seeing summer league highlights from a game played at a college arena certainly doesn’t make it feel like an NBA product.
Pacers got their Myles replacement for a cup of coffee. Time to start making space for the 2026 banner.
I unironically believe OKC should retire his number. Only player to represent the city for two different franchises
No clue if this is legit source or not but Beal and Dave getting stretched in the same off season would be wild owners should have put an amnesty clause in last collective bargaining
I would like to retire the "who else was signing/drafting/trading for..." bit from pods and social media posts. It is used by people like Simmons way too much and is stupid. We have decades of data saying that there are 30 teams and many of them do things we do not think is likely all the time.
in the same vein as his "Did they really have to include (player critical to the trade) in the package for (superstar player)?? I wouldn't have included him if I was them"
Also, Phoenix waive/stretching Beal to get under the aprons after adding money to the payroll in every other decision they made this offseason seems beyond dumb. You could have done a Durant deal that saved money. Could have dumped Micic for nothing but traded it for Williams. Could have dumped Nick Richards for nothing. None of those things would have been ideal, but all of them are better than eating $18-20M on the cap for the next five years.
Also "you can't tell me _ would have turned that down if you offered it to them!" I need a break from Simmons for the next five months.
The whole premise of Jaxson Hayes starting all those games for the Lakers is that as crap as he is, they, in fact, couldn’t just replace him with someone else Brad Beal on a vet min fixes a lot of depth issues with that backcourt imo
There’s no plan here, can’t get too deep analyzing Ishbia. He’s never thought about anything other than the exact moment and instant gratification
genuinely don't understand the move based on every other phoenix transaction and also the spite that you'd assume would exist with beal being such a zero
I mean other than LeBron deciding he wanted to go there and Nico, there’s not a lot of evidence that pelinka is good esp on the margins. I guess I am a little surprised there was no Reeves for a big around the draft but when you can get DominAyton for free I guess you keep your powder dry
agree on the first paragraph on the second I don’t see how any serious team could distribute 35 more minutes amongst the non-Luka guards listed there in Reeves’s absence. Unless you can get Brad Beal for free.
People who hate listen to Simmons may want to skip 51:00-53:00 minute mark. Him and Russillo are discussing their honorable mention for worse situations and he says Indiana after he just picked them a couple weeks ago as the best situation to be in (Befor the injury I know) but to have one player take you from top to bottom is pretty severe and shows if you can’t win it’s time to rebuild.
