I think it's absurd to put them on a bad situation list, but it's not just one player. They're down both Hali and Turner.
Thread is typically very pro player, pretty sad to see how quickly the Nuggets posters are willing to drop that and take the side of ownership.
i imagine it's about money and a long-term deal because that trade doesn't really make sense miami gets powell for literally nothing? clippers give up powell for nothing? i think i'd rather have powell than beal + collins.
They got Norm Powell on an expiring for free. This is a really weird deal. Also think this is another data point in the Herro dynamic there as NBA media (Simmons and others) is consistently putting it out there about him being extension eligible and acting like he might get $40-50 million per year. I've been noticing this as a fan of a team with Ivey heading into extension talks, potentially, ahead of RFA next season. Look around the league at versions of that player (somewhat undersized, non-defenders who score but aren't really PGs). Sexton had a pick attached to him on an expiring for Nurkic. Clarkson was bought out. The Kings have canvassed the league and can't dump Monk at 3/$60M remaining. MIA just got Powell on an expiring for back-ups on a roster that doesn't even have a starting line-up filled out. Cam Thomas probably isn't getting anything over $20M if he wants something long term. TLDR: There is no reason to offer Herro anything more than he's making now, and even that might be higher than the way the market values him.
I also need to say… wtf is Utah doing. Like, why are they sending out useful players and getting nothing or Bosnian dog shit in return? Little Ainge comes in and says no more tanking… and now they have a roster, outside of Markannen, that has functionally zero NBA experience. All first through third year guys who have only played for this tankathon team
I realize that… but, I just don’t see the plan. Like, at all. And they are going to be picking top 8 anyway, not like they need to strip it down to nothing
Simmons and Russillo just talked about the worst situations in the West and I'm 100% with Russillo that Utah's situation is still among the worst in the West. Simmons had New Orleans 3rd worst and I get it because the roster is weird and the people running it aren't smart, but if we're drafting a roster between NO and Utah, the Pelicans have far more talent and tradeable pieces than Utah. They have a ton of picks from the Mitchell and Gobert deals, but it's not like Cleveland or Minnesota are going anywhere any time soon that makes those picks good.
Simons is another one like the guards I mentioned. Portland people have been talking like he's worth multiple ones for years and it took them a couple picks + him just to add Jrue's bloated deal. Sacramento allegedly offered Monk to Atlanta for Niang and Bufkin and were told no last month. Those guys just don't have value right now.
So the Jazz turned Clarkson, Sexton and Collins into Slowmo, Nurkic and a second? what the fuck. also: I’m biased but John Collins was really good for Utah last year, I think he can be really good in La bc I buy the 3pt percentage esp from the corners. His finger in Atl looked like it got caught in a piece of machinery and atl sold low on him. He was quite good as a roll man too
Collins hasn't had value for years. He's good, but people just either don't want to pay him that much or don't have the contracts to be able to match that deal. He made a lot of sense for Detroit but I'm not sure how they could have added him without sending someone they need like Tobias or Stewart.
i understand bill's point (simons is possibly on the move) but boston hasn't announced any of its trades yet. seems like they're still trying to configure on the back end before the trades are official. portland hasn't said anything about jrue, either, because the trade isn't done.
I think most of the delays are because NBA rules are so weird that in order to fit all this stuff in the transactions have to be processed in a very specific order for each team in order to be compliant with the rules.
I don’t disagree with you on his value. Atlanta basically hung “make us an offer” signs on him, Capela , Hunter, Bogi and Huerter at various times from 21 on. I just think he will play above his value in LA. Also. You know I’m a sicko for your team. Is Tobias really yalls 4? The east is generally properly rated as dogshit but there are still some big fucking wings in the Tatum/ Siakam/ Paolo/ Jalen Johnson / mold that feels unsustainable if you don’t have someone for them. Is that Ron Holland eventually?
Harris is currently our only 4, and it is the biggest impediment to me believing we are realistically more than a 5 or 6 seed in the East. I don't believe our future starter there is currently on the roster. Ausar could potentially play there, I think, but at that point you're starting Holland, Thompson and Duren in the front court and the spacing is putrid. But I have also looked around the East and seen the 4s you have to play and believe we can't make that work as currently constructed. If I had to guess, they're saving their chips (expirings, young talent and draft picks) to make a big deal for a 4 somewhere between now and next July 1. I'm not the biggest Markkanen fan but they're in a position to make a pretty good offer for him if Utah makes him available after December 15. Smaller move option would be waiting for Dallas to realize that PJ Washington probably needs to get moved before the deadline. Or do something for Aldama after December 15 if Memphis wants to move pieces around.
you guys could always re-acquire Jerami Grant...he's sitting right there waiting to help an Eastern contender
I think I like the PJW move the best there I still don’t know what the fuck Utah is doing and I’m willing to entertain a conversation about Danny Ainge
Markkanen is interesting to me depending on price. From a skill set standpoint, he's a perfect fit and I think would be worth the salary here. He just never plays and I'm not giving up multiple young guys + 3-4 firsts to do it. But Ivey + Harris and a couple firsts? I'd do something like that if Utah decides to move him at some point between now and the deadline. Washington obviously costs less but I'm not really sure he's that much of an upgrade over Harris. He's just younger.
PJW standing like a bouncer next to Beef Stew mauling someone's face off in the Malice 2 Electric Boogaloo would be fun
Those two guys hate each other and have gotten into some sort of altercation every time they play. Which means they would immediately become best friends and build bunk beds if they became teammates.
