This is very wrong. Base packs are $9 for 3 moments and the worst moments are $5. I have gotten rookies and Lebrons out of base packs that are selling for $400+.

But the chances of getting those are small and it's not worth it to check all the time since drops are random

With a card, I gain physical possession of an item to the exclusion of all others. That’s like the inherent feature of collectibility. It’s incompatible with digital distribution (and the card industry has suffered greatly for it). The value isn’t in the ability to look at it or display it, it is in the exclusive ownership. Nothing exclusive is being conveyed here, other than possibly a serial number.

Also, the market for modern baseball cards is a pittance in comparison with the values being tossed around here. No one is paying 5 digits for any modern baseball card. The sole exception to that are the 1/1 superfactor cards, and if you’re asking me if paying $3.93 million for that is insane, I’d say yes.

I sold a 14000 sn javale McGee for $6 overnight. I think that’s an adequate baseline

If you’re new to this, I would not recommend adding money to Dapper. You can buy a pack once it’s in your cart using your credit card just as easily.

Also withdrawal process is painstaking to say the least, especially in early beta. It's a queue based system and they are approving people for withdrawals at a slow clip, with KYC process of ID verification + current photo and physical address requirement. But once you're withdrawal-approved, sky's the limit gents

Exclusive possession of anything is exclusive possession, whether it’s digital or not. The difference here is these are limited to a set number and serialized. I can say definitively I own #1000 of 2134 officially licensed nba items (or similar)

I’m not sure you’re familiar with the sports collectibles market if you think people aren’t paying 5 figures for cards

I read recently that they're severely understaffed on that side of things due to the insane growth. Would explain why there's been such a slow turnaround on that front.

yea, so the thrill of exponential money growth is what has you hooked. This is a really shitty combination of dogecoin, beanie babies, and wallstreetbets where a lot of people are going to lose a shit ton of money.

Good luck to those of you on TMB who are jumping in on this and hope you get out before the bubble bursts.

Yeah a lot of scams make it hard to one's money back. In fact they probably don't have it available for people to cash out. Like if everyone tried to get a wire transfer to cash out they wouldn't have cash to cover it even with charging a fee.

right. you are all in on a fad. What has me concerned most is that the process for getting money out seems difficult at best. I'm not here to argue with you on the merits of top shot v. regular cards. Who gives a shit. But if you can't see the massive red flags with a business that makes it very difficult to get your money out in the middle of exponential growth...

Agreed. I'm keeping my faith in that they're still in the beta and that it will be sorted out soon. A guy I follow on twitter that's a big supported of top shot got his approval for withdrawal today, so it seems like there's progress.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I’ve spent a whopping $14. I have $155 in my dapper account or whatever from selling cards, next card pack I buy will come from the proceeds of precious card sales. If I never get my money out (which I think is unlikely given it’s direct attachment to the NBA and NBAPA), I’m out $14, it’s a hobby, just an easier to manage one than physical card ownership for me.

One thing they will need to fix is the challenges. You basically can't participate without dropping a couple thousand. I think the product just blew up more than they anticipated and the supply just isn't there.

Right, you are in for $14. Seems like some other TMBers are in for much more. This is playing out exactly like the alt-coin rush from 2018. At first you could throw a dart and 5x your money, but the bubble popped and it all went to zero with the quickness.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing here that the floor of this stuff is zero dollars. It's penny stocks or gambling at this point. I would not encourage you to liquidate your 401(k) or to expect to treat these things like T-Bills.

because legit coins like bitcoin, Ethereum, etc had value to it that even after a crash could be expected to grow again long term. Bitcoin after the crash of 2018 is now stronger than ever. The alt coins that people were buying $1k+ of for fractions of a cent never recovered.

If you think top shot is bitcoin and not one of those random ass alt coins, good luck...

I kept the vast amount of my investment in bitcoin/Ethereum, so I'm good.
