ESPN saying it was $90k to Billy Preston and an unnamed amount to Silvio de Sousa. Also $40k to Dennis Smith Jr to not decommit from NC State
ESPN's story makes it sound as though Adidas paid De Sousa so he could pay money back to UA so he wouldn't have to go to Maryland
Oh I'm sure he was fully aware. I'm not that naive. I'm just saying from how I interpret the indictment, they make it seem like KU wasn't involved.
Kansas, the university, can only claim to be a victim of this scheme if Kansas, the basketball program/athletic department, diverted funds or contracts to adidas on account of adidas’s throwing money at the players. Otherwise they’re a beneficiary.
I get prosecuting the fake investment advisors and coaches who steered the kids towards them, but do they really think hammering athletic affiliates for behavior that would constitute a tax write-off at Google or Amazon to be sound public policy?
And it seems when they say university officials, they aren't referring to the coaching staffs. They used that same term with NC State then said a coach gave him the money.
This is why the uf administration needs to enter into an annual game with um. CFB needs this. The Big Florida needs this. ( my apologies, in advance to the thread. My post is obv football oriented. )
No coaches were named, so doesn't seem like much would happen to the school. Maybe you forfeit the final 4 banner, which, while a bummer, is less of a bummer over there compared to how it would be over here in Weberville. De Sousa p done at ku though, wouldn't u think?
Don’t think there’s any chance he’s back and playing at KU. Which is very unfortunate as he developed a lot in his time on campus.
Maybe I am not reading this correctly but I don't see anything wrong with that. It only covers the "Executive" (I am assuming that is Jeff Long) for "matters occurring prior to the Effective Date of the Executive..." So essentially, for things that happened before he was hired, he won't be fired. Seems reasonable. However, it makes no mention of any restrictions or probation that occur due to matters that occur while he has been in this position.
Eh. If there is a meaningful probation, KU probably needs an AD with experience cleaning up institutions with major sports probations and hiring coaches that can deal with said issues. Long would just get a pretty big buyout or KU would just keep him for several years after he loses credibility because the major sports teams suck.
I think I can speak for most KU fans, if the football program could consistently get 4-6 wins with a season like ISU just had on occasion, they will be more than happy. So if he can get that and basketball keeps it up, I don’t think Long will get much pressure from the fan base in terms of on court/field results.
Not a witness list, but list of names that may come up (at least reading what Wetzel said). And Duke wasn’t named as a school that may come up during the trial, so if Zion does come up I can only assume it’s in the context of an exceptional young man doing the right thing.
Always seemed pretty normal to me that Oregon was going across the country and snagging elite basketball recruits
Earlier today I read a story about Louisville and learned Papa John lives in a 40k square foot house. Not sure what thread to put that in
Louisville is basically the worst school. Snitches get stitches fuckers. Hopefully Kevin whatever his name had to get his leg amputated.
