FSU's dominance was 25+ years ago but clemson and Rad?....no idea why they didn't make waves immediately
Because they're not Texas. Clemson has been in the ACC a long time and it's been good to them. They didn't try to hold the conference for ransom when they felt like they had the upper hand cause there's like, relationships. And they knew it's been a good spot for them for a number of reasons.
Malik benson being a top player who also got a bump is the most glaring example of justifying one's own existence that I can think of
I wouldnt call the 20th WR and the #97 overall in the portal a top player. Just someone you hope to get some secondary production from. Like 300 yards
He's tied for the 83rd player after totaling less than 50 receptions and 500 yards in 2 seasons at 2 different places. Contrast that with the guy he's just ahead of, who matched that in 1 year at lsu and went for over 1,000 yards the year before. It's just nonsense imo
I'm glad we have them because what else are we gonna do in the off season. But Portal Rankings really are dumb. Some guys you expect to contribute asap. Some as starters others as rotational guys that can be just as valuable in a defined role. Some guys are projects that wont pay off right away. Who is to say what is to be considered for a ranking. At least w HS rankings it's all potential.
One of the hockey sites used to do a two-part rating system, 1-10 for their potential and then F-A for their likelihood of reaching their potential. So Connor McDavid would be a 10A and a 7th rounder from Russia would be a 5.5F
Kind of related, but I just started watching this reality show on Netflix on the sport of polo. It’s like Hard Knocks but for polo, and they said active, professional players receive a rating of -1 to 10. One of the guys on there acted like he was hot shit then embarrassingly dropped the fact that his rating was a 1.
that is a very low number for a wide receiver, even a secondary receiver should have close to 700 yards
A true and accurate re-ranking for portal purposes would force the services to admit they made a shitty high school eval. That's why so many guys who do nothing hit the portal and carry forward something resembling their high school ranking. Granted, sometimes there is legit untapped potential or a need for a fresh start. But there are still a lot of times where a guy is a bust or at the least not the star they originally ranked him to be.
Which is funny because they claim their rankings are on NFL upside, how many NFLers don’t see the field til their 4th year in school?
I would think better of them if they just did that consistently, but they don't. It's all random. PSU got a Michigan kid and former ND commit in Owen Wafle in the portal this year. He was a high three star ranked as an 89 as a recruit and then redshirted this year. He's an 85 in the portal. How does that make sense? Michigan took TJ Metcalf out of Arkansas, who was an 88 out of HS and then a decent starter in the SEC as a SO, and he's rated an 86. Troy Bowles went from a 96 out of HS to an 86 in the portal because he couldn't crack the starting line up for the best LB group in the country in two years.
Notre Dame has a proud history of anointing a Spring Game player the best ever, never to be heard of again. It’s called the Junior Jabbie Award and I will die on a hill defending it!!
he looked good early.....but then games started and Tiger McMillan and later a lil fella from Baton Rouge wearing #28 sent the #1 prospect in the land back to orlando
Taqiy Muhammad caught 3 TD in the spring game. We thought a passing threat under Lou Holtz had finally emerged.
Good for him. He got picked on in coverage a good amount so don't expect a Trey Amos impact or anything - but I thought he improved throughout the year and was a willing tackler. We would be better with him still on the roster - supposedly we were trying to keep him but lost that battle.
Tennessee starting CB Rickey Gibson tells On3 he plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal this spring.
Notre Dame will likely have quite a few spring transfers after position battles shape up. Guessing a few OL will hit the portal.
I’d imagine we will have a couple jump in as well. Most likely candidates being- Jelani Thurman - TE Lincoln Keinholz- QB Tegra Tshabola- OG Jason Moore - DT
He's going into his RS Sophomore season. Not sure if he's a bust, but he isn't developing fast enough and is starting to get passed by younger guys. He played in 8 games this past year totaling 57 snaps. Only five snaps in the playoffs. In 2023, he only played in one game for 3 snaps. It looks like Kayden McDonald (Soph) and Eddrick Houston (Freshman) have passed him based on playing time last year and projections going into the spring. Plus, we have Tywone Malone coming back for another year and he played more than Moore did last year. If he's OK being a rotational DT, then he'll be back. But if he is looking for starter reps, he'll leave.
