Honest to god it was supposed to happen before the season and I’m surprised it took this long.

Portal had already started becoming more and more but this year is going to be wild. Will be interesting to see if some of the top schools cut their low ranked guys from their classes or don’t take many guys late to keep scholarships open for the portal.

with 5th years and anyone who graduates this year not counting next year for eligibility the really wealthy schools should have no problem fielding 95 to 100 scholarships next year

ND is doing this, hence they are taking 26 guys or so when normally it would’ve been 19. Plus firing up the portal as well

schools can only go over the 85 to keep their own seniors. They can’t just take everyone else’s seniors. Portal transfers also count toward the 25 max class (a few more if you back count) so the scenario you’re discussing isn’t realistic. Some schools will be over 85 though.

This scenario is realistic, schools keep their 5th year seniors who don’t count towards the limit. ND redshirts everyone and plays old, they no longer have to count those normal 5th years into their 85. They can load up on freshman and transfers in their place in the count. This where they will end up at 91- 93 scholarships next year

seems like a good kid and some one easy to root for. hopefully he does well (and maybe Norvell actually builds something) though I am legitimately concerned for his health behind the FSU OL.

Weve heard FSUs OL is trash so I looked at their recruiting the past 2 years, not a single top 300 OL recruit. Yikes. Any decent transfers?

Started before Taggart, Jimbo’s refusal to get rid of Trickett was the real problem.

Jesus, stop being so dramatic. Oregon's vaunted class last year didn't have any, either. The line this year was as good as it's been in years, despite injuries and most being freshmen. Hopefully we can add another piece or two from the portal.

When you say “as good as it’s been in years” you realize that isn’t saying very much right?

I would also think it’s better to say “not as insanely terrible as past years”

Of course...I mean it's much improved, relative to our prior lines. Qb play also either masks or amplifies those issues. King is a great example of that, although milton can't be as good there

Because we took 2 in 2019 (1 top 100 recruit and the #1 JUCO (with 4 years of eligibility)) and have 4 in 2021. Not perfectly balanced but pretty damn good.

There is a thread on BOL saying essentially the same thing, but staff has not commented on it. Not sure, but as Odin said I wouldn't be shocked. He's had horrible luck and we have two freshman who have looked incredible in garbage time.

Our OL is actually trending towards solidly below average and possibly to average if we add the right GT and have one come back for an extra year. Which is a huge improvement. A few years ago we had the two worst linemen in the country of the 900 or something players that PFF rated. I know PFF isn’t the end all be all, but that is amazing. They were both highly rated recruits btw.

We even have a few young guys that might even end up being decent and Atkins seems like the right coach.

Of course once we are the verge of fixing the OL, 5 other leaks sprung up in the boat.

Some smoke on our side that if he does that we could land him. Still have my doubts but with his pops being a huge nole fan and bama having stud running backs actually able to practice. Maybe it's true

Very believable. He's had terrible injury luck and would likely be 3rd on the depth chart because Jase and Roydell are studs.

Anyone have any mediocre OL that they don't want? I'm assuming they will be an upgrade for KU.

Also KU fired their OL coach bc he was awful. I feel bad that his daughter was really sick, but he didn't seem to give a shit and ran the same lineup out there every week and didn't try anything different.

They improved with a QC coach to end the season bc he merely put people in the right spots.

Yea, I thought everyone knew this, but why wouldn't JJ go pro? He's got 5 sacks and had a pretty solid season all things considered.
