I know nothing about Ricks, but there is a lot going on right now at LSU. I’m waiting to see what the NCAA does with the $180,000 booster payment for the no show job. LSU wanted that football issue to be heard separately from its basketball issues, but the NCAA is treating both together right now. Reading between the lines, that’s usually a bad omen that they are taking aim at the AD as a whole. LSU self imposed 8 scholarships in October, then self imposed a bowl ban in December after it already was apparent their season was shit. LSU already was on probation in 2011 which may stretch into the beginning of 2012 when the payments started. In theory, committing violations while already on probation increases your penalties. It’s been a while since the NCAA hammered a big program like OSU, Penn State or USC ten years ago.
I doubt the NCAA is going to hammer LSU but if we say our prayers and take our vitamins we might get it done.
I’m skeptical as well, but it’s the NCAA, so predictability isn’t a strong trait. The fact that Tennessee was literally dropping bags of cash isn’t going to help LSU. The fact that LSU’s basketball coach is on a federal wiretap offering money isn’t going to help football if both are considered together. If the NCAA feels the need to flex because it’s authority is being challenged, there’s nothing like a few public executions to keep everyone else in line.
