For what it’s worth... One of my family members is a Chicago cop. They are going to 12 hour shifts and he was told just a little while ago to have his rifle and riot gear with him at all times. Y’all stay safe out here.
Shelter in place for Illinois will be announced at 3pm today, effective tomorrow. “Residents can still go to the grocery stores, put gas in their cars, take walks outside and make pharmacy runs. All local roads, including the interstate highways and tollways, will remain open to traffic, as well.”
Streets around me (Lincoln Park) have been pretty quiet other than the nice day last Sunday. Weather isn't going to be nice for a few days so I would assume most activity will be low.
O'Hare is a ghost town. It honestly just makes me sad. Most of the restaurant/bars/shops are closed and there's hardly anyone flying
So I am getting pretty stir crazy being in my 2BR for the last 2 weeks. I just rented a 5 bedroom, 3 story house off AirBnB in Saugetek, Mi. Normally the house is $650/night and I got it for $231/night. Comes with a lake view and a pool table. I absolutely do not need 5 bedrooms (myself, my wife and a 4yo) but if I am going to stay inside all day every day, I figured I could triple our square footage for a few nights and give us a change of pace.
Update - since Michigan put a stay at home ruling in place yesterday, AirBNB cancelled our reservation. They were kind enough to give me a $100 credit to book again if it use it in the next month which seems hard to do.
Go to the lovely state of Nebraska, where the Gov said they wont be issuing any shelter in place rulings. Im sure Nebraska is nice this time of year
my buddy did it and was pretty disappointed outside the potatoes thoughts? I would be all over the NEXT lasagna
My carryout I've done so far: Piece, Fry the Coop, Smoque, Crisp, Coast Sushi, and Mixteco. Next up for this weekend but open to suggestions: Athenian Room, Small Cheval. Basically I make food at home on the weekday and the only thing I look forward to each weekend is good carryout food. Its sad, really.
Places are starting to close to carryout because they were too busy that they didn't feel it was safe. One Off closed all of its restaurants and now Piece as well
Same. Have kept it to weekends mostly and tried to support places in/near West Town. Split Rail, Carbon, Heritage, Piece, Bar Biscay, Aba. Temporis on deck this weekend, along with what I assume will be lots of leftovers from Manny’s carryout Passover dinner.
For whatever it’s worth, a doctor at one of the hospitals was on our family Passover seder tonight (wife’s cousin) and read us the COVID patient update from their and a couple others hospitals today - positive tests, admits, on ventilators, discharges - and he opined based on the numbers (some of which are declining) that we are likely at it very near the top of the curve. He suggested that by “late May” the worst would be over and we’d start getting back to normal. He also said that’s two months earlier than the initial “middle of the range” projections. Everybody stay home (who can) and we should be out of this pretty soon.
They're likely looking at the IHME model, which moved the peak from 4/19 to 4/11 today. https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america/illinois I know some hospital systems that are less optimistic but I would love late May
Hey guys I move to Philadelphia tomorrow :/ loved my time in Chicago. Some of the best neighborhood bars in the country. Won't miss the weather.
Damn this is the worst time to move. Gotta be rough w COVID. Also youre leaving just when the weather is turning.
It's been tough and obviously Covid has made the process much more difficult than it would have been but all things considered its a positive for my family so I can't complain too much. Sad that my last 6 weeks in Chicago were spent holed up in our house.
Anyone have thoughts on home prices in the city? Looking at Lincoln park or wicker park areas. Moving out of river north.
insane that it was only $50 tbh, the things chefs are doing for take home right now are nuts photos below pulled from that reddit thread
This makes a lot of sense. With the massive stores in Lincoln Park and Lakeview, they are closing the DePaul one to just fulfill online orders and delivery.
