No age statement but rumors online say anywhere between 15-28 years old. Think it is at least 23+ you can really taste that Cinnamon Wood.
Good morning friends! Struck out on Blanton's Gold Edition But I did pick up: Blanton's Woodford Chocolate Malted Rye Old Forester 1910 New Riff Single Barrel
WTF! I updated the OP with a start. I'm in meetings the rest of the day so I'll have to revisit updates later. Let the fun begin!
I like the new riff single but it is strange. Some don't like it. "Doesn't taste right". The rye is really good I think. Woodford premium is totally hit and miss by person even. Generally a let down from what I've gathered. I've tried three and they were all different, but not my favorite.
I saw a joke about Woodford in the thread a couple of weeks back. Is Woodford not liked here? It was the first bourbon I ever tried.
Just a running joke with goblue31602 and me. He likes 1792 which is a Woodford knock off. I like Woodford for what it is. It is a solid standard bourbon that is everywhere.
I think it is a solid bourbon if I am in a bar and they only have a few choices. I have always liked it and it is a good intro to bourbon IMO. My MiL bought me a bottle for christmas last year and she was so proud of herself.
I laugh now because of how ridiculous I've become, but that was a "special bottle" my wife would get me instead of Jack/ Bulleit before I got sucked into the game by visa and Anison. They had it at my kids school auction and my sister wanted to get it for me at $85. I was like.. don't!
There's nothing really wrong, I guess, but the name has just gotten bigger than the bourbon. Almost all non-bourbon-drinking people buy it for bourbon drinking people because they think it's a fancy bourbon. They've marketed themselves well, and I compare them to Corona. Slightly garbage product that people now believe is fancy. Two of the main tasting notes are spice and leather.
Yes, but I'd argue that at least AE tastes better (to me). It's overpriced for what it is, for sure. Let's put it this way, I enjoy a glass of it, and I own about 70 bourbons. I don't have a bottle of AE.
Solid marketing. I have had to tell in-laws that yes I love bourbon, but PLEASE don't buy me WR for a gift. The new marketing ploy by bourbons makes me laugh. These jokers are coming out with $100-150 bottles just to make people think it's good shit. Apparently that works, too.
God no. Bookers can fuck right off. They increased the price during the bourbon increase to pretend like they are premium bourbon.
That's a tough one. It's a tricky price point, as if it's worth it, it's usually not around. If it isn't worth it (cough Whistle Pig), you can find it pretty easily. I'm not a Booker's guy, but I've only tried one release. It's a Beam product, and I'm not a Knob Creek fan, so that may be why. Again, if it just sits there at a "fancy bourbon" price, there's probably a reason. It also depends on your area. Outside of Kentucky/Ohio/Indiana, there's a somewhat decent chance for great bourbon to sit there for a while.
Yeah, we need to work on the "consider something else" section. Knob does really well in the bourbon world but I'm not a fan. That doesn't mean it isn't decent to some. I think it is decent in a pinch.
I'm being dramatic, but it does sit on shelves everywhere. goblue31602 and I like Remus and it sits too.
Booker’s doesn’t sit long around here, but I’ve noticed Baker’s does (not that it really means much).
A local store I hit up usually sells bookers for around 60, which is definitely more reasonable. I had some of the 19-02 batch this weekend, which I found pretty enjoyable.
When I first got into it, I’d buy one bottle a month and my wife got me Michter’s Single Barrel as a Christmas splurge. Couldn’t imagine buying a nearly $50 bottle myself
I went to two outlets of the same store, one I knew the guy was lying about their inventory and another one I asked if they had something and the guy said sure we've got it in the back. I know where I'll be going from now on. The Woodford Chocolate Malted Rye was an allocated bottle that never got picked up, they had it sitting on the shelf by itself so I bought it.
