Anyone ever had Penelope Toasted? Maisanos has some store picks but they are all kind lame sounding generic low age BS. I never get excited about Rebel or Ezra Brooks. I think I may have had some decent Ezra Brooks in the past , I can't remember. I've heard decent stuff about Penelope but can't recall if I've ever had it. Penelope Toasted-$81.31 Penelope Architect-bourbon finished with French Oak staves-$81.31 Ezra Brooks and Rebel are $69.39. Rebel stave finish toasted oak- $69.39 -flavor notes of Carmel honey. Ezra Brooks-stave finish is toasted oak-$69.390-this stave finish imparts flavor notes of sweet cinnamon sugar. Old ownership would put the age of each, abv /proof of each, and more info which is super helpful in deciding if you want to buy this stuff. The more information the better. Really have to be descriptive and give people a reason to want to buy this stuff. New people totally are whiffing on this concept . You bought a store with a huge /advanced bourbon following . Not a bunch of dumbasses that just want to buy shelf turds. You are treating them like toddlers basically .
Just ordered both Penlopes, havent bought much in a while so took a flyer. If Jonathan picked it, I feel like it will be good Looks like the Architect is going quick.
He didn't pick them. None of this stuff coming out was picked by him. I'm pretty sure he hates the new ownership and wouldn't let them put his name on anything they are selling. New ownership bitches and complains about him.
Dude is a chemical engineer. I don't know a single chemical engineer , PHD or not, that goes around calling themselves a doctor. I knew we were fucked the minute I found that out .
Had a small pour of an older batch of Smokewagon U/U (probably 3 years old) and then had the NBC I mentioned before. It’s remarkable how much better that NBC barrel is than the SW.
NBC seems to be doing some really good stuff. I've had very little Smoke Wagon so I can't really speak to their quality.
Someone here sent me 2 bottles of Smoke Wagon UC/UF in the 120 proof range like 3 years ago and it is absolute fire. I finished one bottle and I'm milking the other one. Love it.
Those Kelvin barrels are damn tasty. I've got a couple more on the way. I think I'm perfectly fine just chasing good single barrels. There's so many out there that are easy to get and have interesting profiles.
The funny thing is, I hadn't gone back to the SW in a long time and was really enjoying it. It was even better than I remembered it being. The NBC after was just incredible though. This one was a batch in the 50's. It's the last of my older ones that I have open. But, I do have one batch 79 clear bottle stored away and then an unopened batch 69
Hell I figure like 50% or greater of the run of the mill barrell pick stuff the stores are pushing are MGP juice
I have no clue what floor or tier my four roses single barrel picks are but one isn’t much noticeably different from the other and they are all good
One Two or any other Alabama natives. Have you tried Dread River's new bourbon? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts but I didn't like it at all. Tastes too much like a scotch for my liking. Disappointed!
I have not but from their website it was the Silver Medal Winner at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, so something is probably wrong with you! Spoiler since it’s only been aged two years I’d probably hate it too
It being local plus having that accolade made me think it was worth a buy but I was wrong. Didn't even finish the glass I poured. I tossed it out the window as I sat in the carpool line.
Those are tier 1. It’s the last number before the letter. It represents floor. The higher the number, the higher the floor, and usually the higher the proof and more flavorful.
