Could anyone recommend me a $75-100ish bottle of bourbon to get my mom's husband? He only drinks maker's mark but I want to expand his horizons a bit. I know nothing about this stuff.
Indeed. I don't even want to know how good the RR15 was, given that it's just about everyone's whiskey of the year don't worry I'm not jealous at all don't write that I'm jealous.
Nailed it. Makers Mark 46 Cask Strength will obviously be in his wheelhouse too, and may not be a bottle he's had before. Shouldn't be too hard to find and will be around $80.
I passed on the Soft Red (AINT NOTHING SOFT BOUT UGA GO DAWGS BORK BORK) Wheat rickhouse proof, did I goof?
It's some of the best mgp I've ever had. Probably the best realistically. Don't see much MGP get to 135 proof.
I have more bourbon than I could reasonably drink in my lifetime, so I've stopped buying almost entirely over the last year or two, which has taken me out of the loop. but damn, 3 years ago or so people would've stabbed each other in the parking lot to come across an endcap of this
Smoke Wagon built a great reputation through good whiskey and great marketing; they proceeded to crater it with a higher volume of younger distillate. Shame.
Thats a shame. I remember talking to the SW guy on social media and coming close to getting a full private barrel back in early 2020. I guess that's always the risk with the sourced brands. They get popular and can't expand beyond a certain point without going to younger, worse or less in demand stuff. Smoke wagon just one of a long list of casualties for that trend
Smooth Ambler another one. Old Scout had 10-11yr MGP single barrels everywhere for like $55 6-7 years ago. I think they got rid of the single barrel line entirely?
I think a lot of NDP's sales have slowed way down. Nobody wants to pay $80 for 5-6 year old MGP anymore.
Last spring I won a raffle with a bunch of bourbon. In it I got a bottle of Stagg and I tried it and thought it was awful. My wife brought it to her parents today and it’s a batch 23B. Looking it up I guess it’s something good I guess
I drank more beer and wine the last 3 nights than the whole year combined, was fine besides the wine hangover but woodford double oaked(far from my favorite) tastes like the best thing ever tonight.
I drink woodford reserve and Blantons the most regularly and use Beam when I mix with Pepsi. I had a bottle of Elmer T Lee last year that I enjoyed. Of everything I have ever had I really liked Weller 12.
Yeah Stagg is just a very different and much higher proof profile than those. Most of those are known for being extremely smooth and vanilla bombs. Stagg is bolder more cherry forward and obviously hotter.
15y Buffalo Trace distilled Wild Turkey barrels available for a mere $10,000. https://app.hogshead.com/listings/cm2bwj2m1000614fkmsxeqwp1
What’s your whiskey of the year nod? I didn’t get any allocations this year, so I’ll have to pick old bottles. 2021 4R LEBS Batch 2 RR13 C923
Trying to remember everything I've had this year. Off the top of my head.... 1. King of Kentucky 2. RR15 3. CNB 4. Disco 11 5. Old Stubborn 6. TKO (not sure exactly which one. I liked all the ones I had)
