When I get a really rare bottle of bourbon, I'm always tempted to show it off at the liquor store instead of my house.
I asked the same question and they got mad. “Allegedly”, it will eventually be used to show stuff they have in back and you CAN buy. But they’ve been saying that for a month, and it’s never going to contain half the stuff they’re currently showing, so again, what’s the point?
I don’t even take my stuff home any more. Just buy it then go put it back on shelf but write my name on the label so folks know I wuz here
So why not, you know, put a bottle from the back in the case and then it will, you know, be an accurate representation? Stand back when you ask, heads my asplode.
They’re just “waiting on stock to come in”. I guess they’re expecting a truck loaded with PVW any day now
Well would you look at that, I have something in common with them. I too am waiting for a truck of PVW to show up.
Even if it is, it'd be like having a car showcase with a Porsche, Ferarri, Lamborghini, McLaren, and.... a Special Edition Honda Civic
The Woodford hate is so real. For the record, I had a couple Woodford doubles at a company dinner the other night and I lived.
Lol at wsr being in that case too. Looked at 10+ stores in the last 48 hours and most have all sizes of wsr sitting on the shelf at Msrp
I’m looking for a bottle of Rock Hill Farms if anyone has one they would be willing to sell or trade for.
Wasn’t impressed with RHF the one time I’ve tried it at a restaurant. Got a pour of the 130th anniversary four roses earlier this week for entirely too much money but fuck it was good. Was able to get Weller 12 for $16 a pour last night (Blanton’s was $21 for reference).
Its like those Instagram accounts of peoples shelf's with 10 bottles of pappy, BTAC's, Weller, and Blantons all unopened. I cant imagine having those type of bourbons and not drinking them. I have a buddy that has had an unopened bottle of Weller Reserve for over a year. "just waiting on a special occasion man" lol ok have fun waiting years for that $23 bourbon.
Update. I posted that picture yesterday, and as expected people blasted them, so they opened it up to sell stuff this morning, though they still aren’t selling the bottles with tags. Now they’ve ticked off even more people bc they’ve been telling folks for weeks they have GTS, OFBB etc but are saving it til everything is ready, and they just randomly open that on a weekday at 11.
I honestly wish stores would just put out like 10 bottles a day of the allocated stuff and not post about it on social media. That what i would do anyways.
My tally for the season, since it’s winding down and I doubt I’ll find much more unless I get a lucky raffle: 2 GTS 2 Yamazaki 12 1 Nikka 21 1 Weller Antique 1 Weller 12 1 BCS 15 1 Elijah Craig 18 One GTS still unopened and open to trading
Solid haul, very jealous. If I had something to trade for the GTS I would, but I think it trumps everything I own.
I severely overpaid for one of the staggs and somewhat overpaid for the BCS, W12, and EC18. Got the Nikka and antique thanks to this thread, and got the rest at MSRP. No real tips, just calling ahead everywhere usually helps but sometimes people will lie on the phone but be more willing to show you the stash when you show up in person. Raffles got me the yamazakis.
My go-to after striking up small talk around store pics is, “do you have anything else that’s not on your shelves?”
I just ask where the good bourbon is and put my hand in my jacket pocket and then there is the implication that something bad could happen if there isn't. Now nothing will happen but it seems like something could.
I always laugh when I’m in a store and someone comes in and the first thing they ask is if they have weller then leave as soon as they tell them no. Especially if the store has great barrel picks. I have scored so many allocated products by buying a barrel pick then asking them what other barrel picks they are going to have throughout the year.
Barrel picks are the gold anyways a lot of times. Fortunately my local spot did a ton this year. Barrell Bourbon 14yr Eagle Rare Blanton’s 1792 BIB x 2 1792 Full proof Knob Creek 15yr Single Barrel OWA Weller Full Proof Four Roses Barrel strength Jack Daniels Barrel Proof A few whistlepigs Garrison Bros Buffalo Trace And more that I just can’t remember.
People walk into stores around here and ask for Blantons and Weller. If they aren't there, they leave.
Man I’d have so much fun with that if I was a shop owner. “You bet I do! Say, how many would you like? Great, wait right here and I’ll get them!”
Wife won a bottle of Elijah Craig at her work Christmas party. Go team, that’s $30 saved for December 23-26
My buddy just picked me up a bottle of Blanton’s Gold. I already have the straight from the barrel and regular small batch
