I take back everything bad I said about ORVW and Lot B and any BT primo products. ORVW and Lot B were fucking awesome. The other bottle was Full Proof, so we were all wrong.
Any of you guys ever barrel age anything yourself? My wife is getting me one of those small barrels and I am thinking about experimenting with some of the cheaper good stuff like buffalo trace to see what I can do to it. Apparently the small barrels age 10 times as fast due to the greater surface area. Thoughts?
Its definitely a fun little project and can mellow out and oak anything real quick. Just make sure you soak the barrel to get it sealed. My dad couldn't figure it out and poured about 3 different bottles of bourbon in the one I got him
Based on page 1 recs, I bought Bourye ($75 at Main Stree Liquors in East Nashville), Yippee Ki-Yay ($69 at Frugal MacDougal), and Barrell Dovetail ($89 at Frugal). I opened Bourye tonight and I love it. Where are your go-to places in Nashville? Main Street at their limited released day last week and I missed out.
my faves, in no particular order: Old Fashioned Manhattan Sazerac Old Havana (usually warm weather only) Chilton (warm weather only) Ranch Water (warm weather only)
As much as I love bourbon, a well made vodka dirty martini with bleu cheese olives will always be my favorite cocktail
Weller turning into 1792. Can’t say I blame them, but this will now be their 4th label that could theoretically all come from the exact same barrel, just proofed differently.
So the local store is doing a 12 days of Christmas thing https://www.instagram.com/riverside_wine/ Would you all look at the IG story (last two) and let me know what of that I should buy??? Sounds like the Old Forester 1910 is a must pick up
The grey label 1816 single barrel is a great one. Traverse City Barrel Proof is a good find as well. The Barrell craft Spirits is nice but $200+. 1816 Single Barrel would be my choice if only one
Update to the above. If you’re in Chattanooga, you can probably get the 1816 single barrel elsewhere, pick one of the others if so.
EH Taylor Single Barrel or small batch, Blantons, Eagle Rare, Weller (any), Midwinter Night's Dram, BlaumBros Oldfangled (and send to pperc15 )
Yeah you have to be selected for that allotment, in which case I would probably get the Blanton or Stagg. I was meaning from the IG story where he was scanning around the table
Yeah, it's more of the same. It probably had a lot going on before it was proofed down to 80 I'd imagine.
I liked regular when it was the first bottle I bought after Makers/Knob Creek/Buffalo Trace. Since then, meh.
Have a cold so this weekend I steeped some green tea, added some fresh lemon juice, honey, and some bourbon. Was a wonderful cold weather drink.
At the risk of offending purists, I’ve been pouring my bourbon over a bit of crushed ice instead of a large cube or couple of regular cubes. I like the uniformity of flavor the crushed ice offers better.
Since we’re being contrarian tonight, I happen to enjoy BH because I like sweeter bourbs sorry not sorry
To each his own. If it works for you so be it. That makes sense. You basically are adding a specific amount of water with the dual purpose of cooling rather than a large cube which will gradually water down the whiskey at an increasing rate as you drink more. Makes it more consistent.
I also get the desire for it to be cold, but that's why I use water. It's the best way to have a consistent flavor all the way through, but still gives you the ability to open up some stronger bourbons. Rare Breed with a small splash of water is absolutely fantastic. I used to drink it with ice, but got tired of the last few sips being so watery.
