Used to think this but then drank the 2 bottles I had quicker than anything else on my shelf. It's definitely a different taste than the SiBs and it's very very good. I think it's worth the purchase. I will try to keep one on the shelf at all times. I also keep a SiB too.
I added another shelf to display my bourbon, which took about 20 bottles out of my under-bar storage, so basically it just gave me more room under my bar to add more bottles. Grabbed a backup ECBP the other day, and took it down there before the wife got home, and discovered 2 more bottles of stuff I had quickly thrown down there that I forgot I even bought
For those recommending Noah's Mill I would also suggest Rowan’s Creek. I haven’t had either in over a year so maybe I would change my opinion now, but I preferred rowan’s creek to noah’s mill. Plus it’s a little cheaper around me too. probably need to buy these two again and reassess.
If any of you guys are in the Publix region, I’ve seen their attached liquor stores always having Rowans and Noah’s in stock for MSRP
I’m probably overrating the single barrel and underrating the select. I just remember purchasing the select last year and being disappointed. I’ll reconsider if you want to send me a bottle of each to blind.
If you really want them hit me up next week, I'll be swinging by my spot that should have them on Thursday and I can grab them for you. I have shipping through my company so that would only be like $10 on top. Off the top of my head the old grand dad is $29 and the Larceny BP is $49.
I’m playing a little game of “how many can I buy before Mrs. Tamland throws a fit?” Currently at 175 bottles. I'm playing the game of how many bottles can I fit into my bar area without her noticing. I'm already out of room... Go the Baseballman86 route and take over the guest bedroom closets.
There's another one near the back of the shelf Still don't know what to do with my 1.75. They don't sell those anymore. I'll never sell on secondary though.
Apparently I forgot that I had already picked up a 1792 BiB store pick that I have yet to open. Not sure on whether I should taste test the two against each other or turn around and sell (at cost + shipping) the bottle.
My local spot has a new Wathen’s store pick in. I buy all their store picks but man, I’ve hated every wathen’s I’ve tried. This one will be tough to swallow, literally and figuratively
Did the rounds today, at one store there was a 60 year old dude that spent 5 minutes telling me that he heard Brad Pitt was gay. Liquor stores are great for people watching.
I really never expected to be able to sip on something at 132 proof. But here I am sipping this neat. it’s not nearly as hot as I thought it would be.
Everything I had heard/read about Stagg Jr was that it was a super hot one, but Keef and I both agreed that it was one of the easier drinking high proof bourbons we've had. I had it neat as well.
Can someone give me a quick tutorial on how to ship a bottle? I know it's somewhere in this thread I just can't find it.
I don’t see many barrel proof bottles out when I’m shopping. how hard is it for y’all to find stagg jr? I’ve never seen it on a shelf around here so I guess I’ll ned to get my name on a list if I wanna buy some.
DO NOT ship USPS, it's recommended to ship Fed Ex. Oversize the box, use padding that has give (soft foam, sealed air, etc) to absorb any impact. Try to entrap it in a way that it stays near the middle of the box. I usually throw in boxes of hard candy that I get at the grocery store. When you move the box back and forth, you hear the candy moving and it's harder to hear the "glug" of the bottle. My go-to story is that I'm shipping a care package, they always seem to ask me what it is.
Stagg Jr is insta buy at $55. Bought one of three bottles I saw at that price. Wish I’d bought the other two, they were gone the next week I went back :(
I haven't seen it for less than $75 here in a few years. I'm perfectly fine paying $75 since most places here are $110-150.
Blantons will come back around PA site eventually. Stagg Jr is never in PA. I found it at a store in NJ.
Not pictured: 2 more Bakers 13s on the way. The 2019 lot B I traded for with a EC23 and a 1792 Sweet Wheat. These two I picked up today. The Sagacity is the newest Foursquare release: half bourbon half Madeira cask finished rum. The Darroze is a 1976 Armagnac. I have the 2000 Darroze and this one came highly recommended by the store liquor buyer I’ve gotten to know a bit.
Pic of the Armagnac out of the box. Matured 43 year in oak barrels, but not an oak bomb. 1. They use much larger barrels and 2. Very different than the virgin oak we use in the US for bourbon.
