Bought my first one last week and it’s solid for $50. My store just got a 14 year KC pick. Was long horns steakhouse barrel they turned back, excited to compare tonight.
Was going to dinner with the wife and got a notification from a local store that they just got a shipment of EC Toasted Barrel. This store is a super sketchy shithole I went to 1 time a year ago just to see it and totally forgot about it. I walked in 20 minutes after the post and got the last bottle for $58. They sold 32 in 20 minutes. Excited to open it and see what the fuss it about.
Think he meant EH Taylor Barrel Proof. You’re thinking Elijah Craig. But I agree the B520 is fire. Gonna get a C920 this week to compare
Need Help: I need to ship a case of bottles I've collected here in Michigan back to myself in California. Any suggestions on how to package, who to ship with with?
To me, the nose was a lot more exciting than the palate. Its good but I wouldn't pay much more than I would for the small batch. If I'm going to pay the prices I've seen it in stores for ($60-$70), give me the BP all day long.
Fedex or UPS. Go to UHaul and buy a styrofoam wine shipper. Alternatively, do the same, but check it for your flight back just like you would checked luggage. I've done it a bunch. But definitely use the styrofoam wine shippers for that.
UPS or FedEx, definitely don't. For flights I just tell them it's alcohol or that its wine. not a problem.
Booker’s 30th, ORVW 10, another Lot B, and EHT BP have been added to the family. RIP my liver. If anybody has a WLW or something similar they’d be willing to trade for the Lot B send me a pm!
You either have a problem or are just great at fireballs. If you can trade the B30 for the B25 I would make that trade any day of the week
Never really had an issue with gambling before but probably should slow down. I’m at about 5.5k spent and bottles I’ve won cumulatively have a 9.5k secondary value. If I keep playing a regression to the mean is inevitable.
I would say talk to our main man pperc . He's like the Warren Buffett of increasing value through bourbon secondary. It's kind of incredible.
Lol... I don’t do raffles or fireballs. Hate gambling. It’s not gambling if you have an edge though ;)
I haven't opened mine and probably won't for awhile, but I paid $59 so the price is fine. I think list price is $49 and it is pretty heavily allocated from what I understand.
I got mine for 53. At first sip I thought meh this is okay. Revisted it after being open for a few weeks and much better the second go-round. I'll buy again when I go through this bottle.
That’s good to know. Seems like it’s a better value for the price compared to a peerless rye. I’m planning on cracking it tonight and giving it a go
What 1792 FP store picks do you recommend? I absolutely hated small batch. Only reason I bought it was to get W12 for 89. But I’m intrigued by FP, SiB, and BiB
If you want another good one at the low $50s price point, then try out pikesville if you can find it.
If you hated small batch, then probably best to steer clear of the full proof. That said, I'd love to share some samples if you're in the Atlanta area when I open my next store picks (I have Mike's Package Store from Douglasville which I really liked and one form Bankhead Beverage that I haven't tried yet.)
There was a spice note I was picking up earlier, I wanted to say cinnamon or nutmeg but I've since moved on to Stagg Jr for my debate prep and have lost the ability to taste all the things.
Probably because it's a $50 rye and you can buy delicious ryes for sub $30... (at least that's why I haven't bought it)
But like I can buy an Old Forester and a baby Sazerac for the price of one Pikesville... Okay, I'll buy one and we'll reconvene next week.
Yes, I like plenty of cheaper ones but that flavor profile is way better in my opinion than the cheaper ones I really like.
I’m about 40 min north of ATL in Dallas. I’ve seen quite a few store picks of 1792 FP. Just wasn’t sure if any were better than the others.
