I hate equally when people find shit I want to find and know I never will. Ha
but you will... never give up. when i first started in this game, i thought i would never find blanton's.
and it's not just finding stuff. trade for what you want. people love OWA. get it in Ohio, trade it for what you want.
Yeah, like when I found 2 Michter's Rye BPs in a FedEx box that g8r sent to me.
Just poured a B519 that has been opened for over a year. Wow, what a difference. So good.
Really surprised there is any left in the bottle and it didn't all evaporate
I'll see myself out now
Were you not a fan of it initially? Mines been sitting for a few months since first pour and looking forward to getting into it again but I loved it
I was, but I have so many bottles that things sometimes get forgotten. I definitely liked it, but it has gotten better by mellowing some of the rough edges.
Getting me to give up OWA would be unpossible. And I’ve only found it twice in central Ohio. goblue31602 gets the OWA motherload in southern Ohio.
I also have the giving it up for a trade issue, Need to buy and commit to trading it because I always end up keeping it.
yep - buy in bulk, trade. sounds like you need to take an OWA buying road trip around your state
Concept of “opportunity cost.”
I may be able to get some for 49.99
It is frustrating seeing how much easier it is for those in other states to find desirable bottles at much cheaper prices due to state regulations etc...
There’s so much great bourbon though across the board. High tide raises all boats, and what not.
And pperc is right about trading. Only been in the bourbon game for less than a year but have made some decent deals imo. Got a Bookers for a YKY and a SW Sb + SW UCUF for a Stagg Jr. Hoping to trade a 4 roses SiB BP for a Bombergers + Shenk’s.
Still on the hunt for other good bottles though. Would love to find a Michters 10yr bourbon or rye for retail
Will grab you one if they still have some left
Absolutely there is, but I’d argue at this point the high tide just raises prices. I’m not upset at our posters get great deals, it’s absolutely awesome.
Just goes back to the theme of the thread: when you see the good stuff at retail, just buy it and bring your excess here to find a home.
As someone who hunted constantly last year to come up with 2 George T Staggs and an Elijah Craig 18, gotta say I prefer the gambling rush of raffles+getting bottles I know I’ll never see in the wild to trying to negotiate with stubborn liquor store owners. Doesn’t help that Arkansas is possibly the worst state to find good stuff.
That being said, I’m content with my haul and have left the FB groups. Lost 3 in a row and wanted to quit while I was ahead.
Absolutely agree, I encourage everyone to mention what they are looking for so if anyone finds it at a reasonable price we can help each other out.
Speaking of this, it’s a limited release (though I don’t think it’ll be a big secondary item) but if anybody comes across the Three Chord 15yr Whiskey Drummer release, I need one. My sample is nearly gone and it’s good enough that I want a full bottle at nearly $200, which is saying something
I'll check the Athens market
In the spirit of sharing and caring, I actually took a pic of my local store’s selection the other day. Nothing crazy exclusive but all should be at MSRP. If for some reason anything is in there you cannot find let me know.
Buy the McKenna's bub.
Go ahead and get all that WT Rare Breed for 41 each
Second the Mckennas and I never find rare breed.
Try living in a state that gets a shit allocation due to archaic alcoholic beverage control laws (Willett, New Riff, and some others don't distribute here at all), gives all liquor license holders (stores, bars, restaurants, and private) an equal shot at highly allocated bottles regardless of their total alcohol sales, AND advertises which store is getting what each week in advance of the actual distribution. There is no such thing as "finding" good stuff; you either get in good with an owner/manger and hope he holds back one of the 2-3 good bottles he gets each year or you chase the delivery trucks like an asshole.
We got one bottle of Double Eagle Very Rare for the whole state. A gas station in bumblefucktown nowhere that had gamed the system to get a second liquor license to increase their chances of getting highly allocated bottles won the DEVR, priced it for secondary, and it sold in a day or two because the whole state knew where to find it. A local group I'm in banned multiple people because they were calling stores 100+ times a week hoping to find an employee who would hold a bottle for them. Another guy in the group threatened a store manager (who is also a member in the group) at a store where he wasn't a regular because the manager wouldn't hold a bottle for him. No chance I'm competing with those psychopaths.
I really liked Joseph Magnus, and $88 is $12 cheaper than I’ve ever seen it
I know it’s hitting New Jersey. I’ll let you know if I get access to any.
Have a guy in Illinois who is sending me one for 80. Bought some stuff off secondary before from him. Always has solid prices.
Also finally snagged a ECTB today
There is still a little hope out there for naïve liquor store owners in the dark corners of the universe.
Buddy of mine owns a restaurant and SC is a 3-tier state so he has to buy his liquor from stores and always keeps an eye out for me. Texted me a pic of 2 WFP bottles yesterday and asked if I wanted them before the guy put them on the shelf. He said "the guy said he's never seen the blue ones, usually only gets the green one occasionally - is 60 each too much for you?"
"I suppose that'll work"
You bought all of them?
Edit: nvm I thought that said 12
It's so damn good.
Owner reached behind the counter, pulled these out, and asked if I wanted one. “Can I have both?”
Looks like one for me and one for the homie visa
Mine bottles are act 8, scene 1.
What's the difference?
that Bookers is $20 cheaper than indiana
believe the scene is the batch
Same. That’s a real good price there
Just need the full proof to close her out...
Is there a lot of deviation in the CYPB year to year? Whose "perfect bourbon" is it?
No idea. First time having it and it’s delicious. Single Barrel is the best of all of them though. Opening my WLW tomorrow night
Now that I’m flush with FP I’d be happy to trade you one. PM me
so BT put together a survey where the respondents could choose proof, age, mashbill, all that. It was available online I believe but basically everyone who visits the distillery fills it out as well. I think they had like 40k respondents.
frankly I’d vote for more age and proof but I don’t think there is a high percentage of enthusiasts among respondents. I have no chance of finding it anyway so my opinion is worthless. I’m sure it’s decent but I highly doubt it’s worth the secondary price.
I open everything almost immediately so I don’t really have anything of comparable value to trade atm. Let me know if you’d be willing to sell for a reasonable markup
oh shit, I can get behind this
Sazerac/BT is good at marketing/capitalizing on the bourbon craze if nothing else.
Now if you’ll excuse me I’ll be over here drinking my limited edition Benchmark single barrel top floor store pick.
Atlanta bro's, should be visiting my brother soon who lives just south of downtown. Don't mind driving a little but any good stores I have to hit up?
